Make Love, Not War!

Ok, admittedly, this may sound like a bit of a hippy rant, but i read so many comments from people who say what im about to re-iterate! I just cant understand where all the swearing and rudeness and insults are getting us? Of course we should be allowed to express ourselves, but perhaps we should consider "Constructive Criticism" and not all out slanging matches! Insults never improve a situation and they just breed more insults and hatred.

Maybe im just clueless, maybe you will write insulting comments underneath my blog too. But i am embarassed for people like our very own "Hajiagha" who feel the need to insult others, find reasons to expell hatred and general disgruntlement. Why? We are small fish swimming in a big sea, the only way we become visible is when we group together. I dont read Hajiagha's cartoons anymore because they are disturbing. Not through content, but through the blatant and extremely apparent hatred that their creator clearly seems to have toward the world. Sadly he taints the beautiful words, poems and pictures of others who write on Iranian.com and so encountering his misery is unavoidable.

We have enough problems with Iran being lined up for potential attack, with people hating us and not understanding our culture and just signing us off as "Axis-of-Evil" co-conspirators. We should take a leaf out of the Jewish & Israeli's books.... They ALWAYS support each other, NO MATTER what! And whilst i dont agree or support their politics in any way, shape or form, i think is it wrong to HATE people. No matter what. Our hatred does nothing except pollute the world, confusing people and generating even more hatred and unrequired idealism.

What ever happened to "Make Love, Not War"...????

Yeah .... and you are absolutely right.
I try very hard not to dislike anybody!
It does become pretty tough at times ... but I always put myself in their place(not gonna say shoes!) and think what if I had their background? what if I grew up the way they did?
what If I had read less and and thought less?
What if my parents were not the ones I had , and that I had grown up with parents - or none- such as theirs?
Then I give 'em the benefit of the doubt and calm down!!
There definitely must be some thing that I can learn from them!
If nothing... then... " adab ra az ke amookhti az bi adabaan!

Your comments remind me of a note I saw written brass on wood and attached to the Eifel tower which read: (Please do not write on the walls) and right under it someone had written with chalk(in yadegari man ast, har ke bekhanad khar ast). Now really who is the ..ar?

Bring it on!

Now that's a great idea... a debate between Haji and feminists!  I still peek every once in awhile (even though we swore off of him) and I'm past getting offended.  He'll probably HATE this but it's more pity than anything else.  He definitely is NOT what he proposes to be.  The cussing thing is just so much a personal thing.  I simply love to whip out the "f" word on occasion... it just rolls off the tongue so nicely!  I remember the first time I said "shit" in front of my Mom... totally reflex and I think it shocked me more than it did her.  I don't mind the kids expressing themseves a little bit either... as long as it's relative (well thats an open door, isn't it). I've got a few no-no's though.  But I have to remind myself that a no-no to me just isn't to everyone!  And you can easily say that something that is minor to me is something huge to someone else.  I think it's more the anger that is behind the words that is disturbing rather than the words themselves.  I can't wait for the Debate Blog!!!

Anonymouse

There are many reasons

by Anonymouse on

The first reason that jumps to mind is that like many other things, had we not thrown out Shah via a revolution, we would have been closer to where US is right now.  We watched the same TV shows, like 6 million dollar man, days of our lives, colombo, etc.  US didn't use cuss words too much in the 70s. Now you open MTV and Hip Hop exists on vulgarity.  So had we stayed on the same path, we'd reached the "Doors of the great civilization"!

Even now in IRI people are copying US on almost everything.  Had our TV and Cinema followed the same evolution as hollywood, we'd have cuss words in persian all over the media.

Here in Iranian.com, it used to be no comments, now people comment and they are like everyone else. I'm sure you get angry and may even leave cussing comments on something.  This site does not get hundreds of thousands of visitors like CNN, USATODAY or MSNBC.  In those sites there are hundreds, sometimes thousands of comments.  In this site, there is usually a dozen or so comments anonymously or signed.  CNN and others can afford to apply FCC rules and censor hundreds of comments but if you do it here, there will be just a handful of comments, if any.

This is not war and peace.  You can ignore them if you want.  In war you can't ignore anything, they force it on you.  I think the highest commented column was by sepanlo-ulrich something.  about 180 comments and most of them cuss words.  Personal and vicious attacks directed at her.  She didn't respond to even one of them.  At least not under her own name.  So what happened there?  nothing.  You don't like something, just ignore it.  Or flag the offensive ones.  Many comments have been deleted.

There are many more reasons, most of which you've seen discussed in this site and you can get the picture.  As far as Hajiagha, come on be fair.  Be really fair.  His comments are controversial, one day he is against war tomorrow he is for it.  But he is NOT boring.  You take him out of this site, we'll all talk about war and serious stuff and nothing else.  Where else you get a laugh in this site?  original and new laugh not some funny video.

I'm going to have a blog to have a debate between feminists and Hajiaha.  I don't know if Hajiagha or anyone else attends it, but it should be fun if they do.  Imagine!

I agree that we should be

by Anonymous34343434 (not verified) on

I agree that we should be nicer to each other. I promise I will try.

On the other hand, I think we are a nation with a bad OGHDEH for swearing. I think a healthy dose of swearing (healthy: not in front of kids, or elders. Only in appropriate situations) is necessary for a healthy psyche. So in an anonymous place like this, it's easy for a lot of people to vent their anger.
