Yes, our Iranian ancestors actually kicked the Arabs out of the country, barely 2 centuries after occupation. Some of their leaders (e.g. Mardaviej) even tried to restore the Zartoshti faith, but failed because:

1. Zartoshti beliefs were even more backward than Islam;

2. Zoroaster religion is mono-racial (people of non Persian blood can't convert);

3. Iranian warriors preferred to take over the whole Arab world, rather than be a small player within Iran;

4. When Iranian forces (آل بویه) captured Baghdad and turned the Caliphs into their own little puppets; there was no incentive for going back to the antic Sassanid traditions.

They would not have needed to send in their military in the 80's when shah was long gone.  The point being that Shahs Team never used mullahs or extremists in Afghanistan to repel USSR, politically, militarily or economically.  His aims were very progressive and not regressive.

He did everything he could do for Iran, based on the capabilities of the people of Iran and where Iranians did not have the capability he made plans for achieving capabilities, though his opposition are intentionally in denial about it, exactly because they are his opposition. 

Any expert that knows about Iranian society, knows that Iranians were not capable of creating the institutions necessary for developing a democracy (especially under the competitive pressure iran was under as an economically developed nation) and needed one to two generations to achieve this. 

So as the late shah worked towards that path, he was being disingenuously presented as a dictator (those who called him a dictator were usually opponents that were fully aware this was not true and exactly what the difference between a law abiding monarch is and a dictator). Ask them when did the late Shah use absolute power and the answer is, never in all his years did he lawfully have it, did he use it or could he use it if he wated to.

Pity we are so stupid collectively and so brilliant individually.

In 1973, the Afghan king was overthrown and a "republic" was declared. The king was overthrown by a prominent member of his own family, Daoud, who seized power with the help of an underground party named the Peoples Democratic Party of Afghanistan ... a pro-Moscow communist party.

Not True Shah was long gone before USSR invaded Afghanistan

Therefore shah never relied on the mullahs or islamists.  Shah was gone in 79 and opposed mullahs and islamists.  Afghanistan happened in early 80's and USA relied on them heavily.

The Invading Afghanistan was actually the result of USA betraying the late shah, having irans military murdered and air force terminated and then the USA siding with the mullahs. 

The mullahs were brought into power by the USA and used to defeat soviets and are kept in power by USA today. Brutality, Poverty, Backwardness, Inhumanity, this is what the USA wants for Iranians, sadly its succeeding.

The point was we owe a lot to the pahlavi's for being secular, in harmony with iranian culture in contrast to qajars.  This lead to bringing Iranians peacefully towards freedom, with constant progress during pahlavi's time.

The pahlavi's would have never allowed islamic extremism to be used against the ussr, because it would have been a greater threat to iranians.  The pahlavi's cared about the health and education of iran deeply.

Pahlavis were and are against extremists, the uk, usa, france are for extremists and have always been for them.  Russia and China are also against extremists, though both Russia and China go along with IRI because the USA keeps the IRI in power and the Neither russia nor china is capable of removing extremists from power, so they just compete with the USA for influence with the extremsts.  The russians and chinese do this by providing extremists with technologies the USA would not want them to have even though the west loves brutality of extremsts for iranians, they want them backwards too and weak so that is how russians bring the IRI to their side.

Legally speaking, the late shahs action did move mullahs out of government, court, schools etc.

He gave mullahs nothing in contrast to what he took from them.  Which is why I disagree on the late shah kowtowing to mullahs, especially if you look after 1965, before 1965 he tried to work with them on reforming themselves which got nowhere, after 1965 and taking their land and large sources of income away he tried forcing them to focus on spirituality only.

Politically speaking being in a position to Claim to have been saved by Abbas was a result of the power of Mullahs in Iran at the time, which they had got to after harmful and disfuctional policies pursued by qajars that enslaved the nation to them.  Shah had practically liberated Iranians from mullahs before 79, when they reasserted themselves with help.

We owe the Pahlavi's alot in terms of helping awaken and develop Iranian Leaders for the future by focussing all Iranians on Irans non islamic culture, rewarding it and at the same time not following the mullahs lead like the qajars and therefore revealing to Iranians what the mullahs really are. 

Sadly the qajars were totally subservient to the mullahs who during ther rule were allowed to rule in politics, the courts, the schools, farming.  Thanks to the late shah and his father the mullahs were removed out of all these areas they enjoyed during the qajar era and they started for us the era of Iranian progress.  Betrayal and manipulations, don't hold natons back for long.
