Good movie referral - thanks!
My own exposure to the Stalin's Soviet Union started with "Cancer Ward". Of recent movies, I also remember "Lives of Others". Of course, one shouldn't forget the Stalin's great Cambodian students in "Killing Fields". While we are at it, let's not overlook the great Chinese "Cultural Revolution".
Wicked!
by Arj on Fri Aug 26, 2011 02:33 PM PDTWith all due respect, "wicked"? As opposed to noble?! Sounds Manichean!
Dear Shazde,
by Ski-Ab-Ali on Fri Aug 26, 2011 02:28 PM PDTThanks for your stud observation and reflection on failed Communist regime. Around 20 years ago a movie regarding the aftermath of communism in Russia was made by the name of “The Inner Circle”. This film, in my view, should be seen by all of us Iranians. Seldom since then have I ever come across any artistic work as powerful as this movie regarding the subject. Below is the link to the movie. Thanks again!//www.imdb.com/title/tt0103838/
Lampooning is needed as wake up call, for the wicked.

Lumpen mentality and intolerance
by Arj on Fri Aug 26, 2011 02:05 PM PDTRegime after regime has come and gone through Iranian political scene. Some with fundamental differences varying in substance and style from the other, or simply the mere replacement of the ruler. However, what is chief among the constants is the dominant thuggish mentality of the opponants or proponants of a political current in vulgar dismissal of another school of thought. And this is not a phenomenon invented by the Basij or Lebas Shakhis. Indeed such lumpen, mob mentality towards scapegoats in our society has a long history of its own!
Unfortunately, hatred of the other (for whatever justification) has overshadowed the trend of our national discourse (or lackthereof) in the past two centuries or so. From vilification of Babi movement and subsequently Bahais, to the Mosadeghis and Tudehis during the Shah's reign, to the MEK/PMOI who seems to be the scapegoat de jour!
Nonetheless, in a democratic Iran of tomorrow, Tudeh party, Mojahedin, and even Islamists as well as monarchists will have the right to puruse their non-violent, political activities. No matter how much we hate one or the other group or individual, vitriolic attacks and hate mongering is not going to shut up that political entity. On the contrary, what our nation is in desperate need of, is to realize that the sooner we abandon this intolerance and lumpen mentaly and open to a civilized discourse, the better chance we have to reach a civil, democratic society! Failing to realized that, we'll be doomed to be ruled and beaten to submission by Basijis, Maddahs and Shaban Bimokhs for the foreseeable future!

I really don't think that the nature of IRI has changed in the past 30 years, but I agree with you that: "there were reasons not to ask for fall of IRI" ... for example, people's knowledge and readiness.
Shazdeh, I have a great answer to your blog
by Anahid Hojjati on Fri Aug 26, 2011 12:11 PM PDTshort version of my answer is that 30 years ago, there were reasons not to ask for fall of iri but that ship sailed long time ago so i think all those tudehis who still support iri have more similarity to ashabe kahf than anything else.
There is nothing wrong with being a Tudeh-ei ...
by Shazde Asdola Mirza on Fri Aug 26, 2011 11:49 AM PDT... one day, they all were humans too!
However, what miffs me is their ass-kissing of not only their own favorite tyrants (e.g. Stalin and Beria) but of the IRI murderers and torturers. Many of these people had become so addicted to kissing-up, that they were brown-nosing Khomeini, as he was in the process of killing them!
Shazde Asdola Mirza, Very
by Babak K. on Fri Aug 26, 2011 08:22 AM PDTShazde Asdola Mirza,
Very good observation and thank you for bringing this up. However even among Tudehee were people who were decent but ignorant. You said :
Well, I respectfully disagree with you on this. For an Iranian to be a Koon-boos of a tyrant, he or she do not need to be a Tudehee, being an Iranian or an Arynite is sufficient. What I am saying is that, when it comes for Be-Sharafee and Bevojdanee,Iranians of all walk of life are very good if not outstanding. For example all the monrchists have no problem with dictatorship and all are and were great koon-boos. I know so many Iranian who are nonreligeous, but they have no problem with being a whore for the Islami Republic.
