by Shifteh Ansari

TIME Magazine is deciding who will be Person of The Year, 2009.  Iranian Protesters are one of the candidates.  Though their editors will make the final decision, you can also voice your preference.  The list includes:

1.  Iranian Protesters

2.  Barack Obama

3.  Steve Jobs

4.  Usain Bolt

5.  Angela Merkel

6.  Stanley McChrystal

7.  Ben Bernanke

8.  Tim Geithner

9.  Olympia Snowe

10.  Somali Pirates

If you think Iranian protesters were the most notable people of 2009, vote for them.

we are number one so far 486,751, way ahead of the rest of the pack. This doesn't necessary mean that it will be actually chosen, but should send a strong signal to Time about what general public thinks.

When you posted I voted and emailed about 150+ people asking them to vote and also pass along. Many responded saying they voted and had passed along. It didn't occur to me to include the much younger Iranians who were born here long after 1979 in my email. I have so far recieved 7 emails with the link, from those young Iranians ...!
I have no doubt this is very close to everyone's heart and our beloved protesters WILL win :) Very exciting.

This is incredible!

When I posted this blog this morning, there were 18,000+ votes for Iranian protesters.  I checked just now and the number has jumped to 72,822!  Obama's second place of 12,000+ this morning has only grown to 24,792!

I am proud of Iranians for participating in the vote, but I'm almost sure that many non-Iranians are voting for Iranian protesters, as the young men and women of Iran captured the world's hearts and minds this summer as no other politician or artist has been able to do for a long time.

There are plenty of Iranian protesters that qualify for the Time Person of the Year. starting with Neda, Taraneh, Sohrab.

Thanks for info.

Thanks for posting this. Looks like Iranian protesters, or maybe Neda specifically, will be prominently mentioned (if not selected) Time Person of the Year.
