Only if we knew what Mashruteh meant

by argebam on

It looks like we had the same issues 100 years ago, yet non of so called intellectuals (I have to be honest most of Iranians who studied outside Iran do not even know what Mashruteh is) paid any attention in 1979 and we ended up with IRI. Where we should have asked for reforms 30 years ago, we are asking for them now!!!!!!!

Many people think Mashruteh is the same as Monarchy!!!! rather Mashruteh in simple words means "Freedom and modernization" and which during modernization we arrived at a modern Constitution.

Mashruteh is drived from the word 'SHART" in French or "Loahe ghanun" or constitution.

So you can be follower of a republic and be a Mashruteh Khah not just a monarchist. I truly hope we make these distinctions and stop labeling each oter.

You found a treasure.  Thank you.

Turban wearing bees, scorpions, and snakes are attacking the female angel of democracy while some men are running away and others are looking and wondering.  How insightful!  Also, see here:

you have (not) come a long way, baby

thanks for posting this caricature.  considering the events of the past 30 years, it radiates such profound perspective (and sadness).  it also shows that some of the intellectuals running away while others (helplessly?) stand by the "angel of consitution" with clenched fists.
