An American friend of mine, an established poet, who also volunteers for the Middle East Peace Center has been working very hard to organize this event. I would like to share with you the information and invite those of us who can to attend.
Thanks

“Dealing Effectively With Iran Without War”
Featuring Peter Beinart and Jamal Abdi
June 12, 2012 at 7:30 P.M.
Siegal College of Judaic Studies
26500 Shaker Blvd., Beachwood, Ohio 44122
Admission: $10.00
Peter Beinart is Associate Professor of Journalism and Political Science at City College of New York and political writer for the Daily Beast. His most recent book is titled “The Crisis of Zionism.” Jamal Abdi is Policy Director of the National Iranian American Council and is a frequent guest contributor in print, radio, and television, including appearances on NPR, BBC Radio, and Voice of America. This discussion will be moderated by Brian Amkraut, Siegal College provost, with ample time for audience Q&A. The program is sponsored by the Cleveland Peace Action Education Fund.
Over many years, the US and Iran have been unable to negotiate a mutually secure peace agreement, especially on the nuclear issue. Many questions
surround the looming difficult choices. Would an attack on Iranian nuclear facilities by Israel derail, delay, or motivate Iran’s nuclear program? What would be the likely consequences of such an attack for Israel, the U.S., and relations between the countries? What kind of sanctions and negotiations with Iran are likely to provide verifiable and sustainable agreements in a reasonable time frame? These and other related questions will be discussed at a program titled “Dealing Effectively With Iran Without War.”
The public is invited to bring their questions and concerns to the conversation.

You mean it's not free?
by divaneh on Sun Jun 03, 2012 05:39 PM PDTI am against the war but if it's going to cost me $10 then I have to rethink my position.
SK some idea's of interest
by amirparvizforsecularmonarchy on Sun Jun 03, 2012 08:23 AM PDTFirst of all I want to thank you for being in favor of peaceful means for dealing for IRI.
My view is this, being anti-war does not encompass al elements of the right solution for Iran, neither does being anti-colonialism, neither does being anti-mullah (because of their ability to exploit human needs). A comprehensive solution means being pro-secular government for Iran.
Liberal circles have done an excellent job at securing and keeping the IRI in power in Iran, Conservative approach hasn't removed mullahs either (threats of war), The real solution is removing the IRI and bringing something in its place, that will bring peace, progress and human rights.
I am for Monarchy for Iran, because looking at India's example after 70 years they have made little to no gains in the areas of peace, progress or human rights (in comparison to what our monarchy did for Iranians during the time of the late shah). Iranians today would make a big mistake if they think they are better than or worth more than Indians, they would benefit from an institution designed to be secular, constantly implemtning new ideas and easily capable of overcoming foreign decit and manipulation.
If I got you SK, to reflect on the problem with looking at Irans difficulties as single issues/crisis and helped you see how focussing on a single issue (winning one battle, of no attack, is ensuring Iranians lose the war of removing the IRI and being forced to live with the IRI then it will have been a good thing.
My message would not be just anti war, i would choose help secular democratic opposition which the wests institutions, especially the liberals in the media are busy tying up their hands.

Then you will see the same crowd screaming that he is a CIA agent. Of course, a CiA agent who still does not know anything but still gets invited to the congress, the white house or the state department due to his looks!
There will be no war, but is IRI lobby closer to Grand Bargain?
by AMIR1973 on Sat Jun 02, 2012 06:41 PM PDTThere will be no war, despite the hysteria every few weeks going back well over 10 years. What I'm wondering is this: is the NIAC IRI lobby any closer to its desired goal of a Grand Bargain being reached with the Islamist terrorist regime? Just wondering.
It would be a very interesting event to attend

I live very far from Ohio so, hopefully would be able to see the report.
Soosan Khanoom, thanks for posting it here.

by vildemose on Sat Jun 02, 2012 05:38 PM PDTsoosan khanoom...Disagreeing with NIAC does not make one pro-war.
I have read Jamal Abadi's writings and they are pretty much stale and unoriginal at least for me. He might sound like an "expert" on Iran issues to American or even Americn Jews but not to Iranians who are anti-IRI and/or anti-reformers.

Vildmose jan,
by Soosan Khanoom on Sat Jun 02, 2012 04:57 PM PDTRight now the question is should there be a war agianst Iran or not? What is a war good for ? Absolutely nothing!
This event has not been held by NIAC. There are actually Americans and Jewish Americans living in this country who are also against the war and actually made the invitation. Good luck with them in terms of finding an Iranian organization in the U.S that shares the same anti-war sentiment with them other than NIAC.
Iranian in exile are kind of like the Cuban in exile, not only they live in similar areas close to the Disney amusement parks and beaches but they also are anxiously waiting for the American bombs to grant them freedom.
Let me tell you soosan
by vildemose on Sat Jun 02, 2012 04:36 PM PDTLet me tell you soosan jon, those who sell their principles or morals for expediency and political gain or think they are craftier than others (read hubris) have no credibility or respect in the eyes of those NIAC thinks they can influence. They are simply not trustworthy. They are looked at with enormous contempt; hence, their perpetual ineffectivenes..

I see your points but vidlemose jan ,
by Soosan Khanoom on Sat Jun 02, 2012 04:06 PM PDTWhatever the " masaleh " is , war is not the answer. NIAC, if nothing, at least has been very clear in its anti-war policies and for that reason alone it has my 100 percent support.
At the current moment, during these days that the destiny of our country, and more important of all,the lives of iranians are at risk; due to an ongoing threat of the preemtive war, please show me an organized, well spoken, and educated anti-war Iranian-American organization that can deal with this threat more effectively than NIAC?
It is time for anti-war Iranian-Americans to get united on this otherwise we may regret it later.
For the pro-war Iranian-Americans there is always AIPAC to join, no need for anything else.
Let me also add that
by vildemose on Sat Jun 02, 2012 04:04 PM PDTLet me also add that NIAC's agenda is neither righteous (making a deal with the devil both cia and reformers) nor comprehensive therefore, destined to fail.

by Soosan Khanoom on Sat Jun 02, 2012 03:14 PM PDTWar starts with disaster.... Ends with disasters.... War is nothing but disaster. We should prevent it by all means.
Try to attend if you can and ask anything you wish. Any question is innocent enough to be asked.
I personally wish that we could bargain for threats that do exist and demand civil liberty and political freedom in Iran rather than bargaining for a threat that does not even exist.
Does it start with "Grand" and end with "Bargain"?
