Leave Shiva Nazar Ahari Out of It!

The violations of human rights that are happening in Iran are so gross and blatant, it would be criminal for any fair-minded human being of this century and this planet not to condemn them.  Everyone must know about them and everyone must be outraged about  Iran's discriminatory laws against women.  Everybody should feel responsible for knowing about the Islamic Republic of Iran's persecution of women's rights activists, dissident students, human rights advocates, and religious minorities.  It is upon all of us to tell the world to hold the Islamic government accountable for the way it continues to treat the defenseless Iranians.

Having said that, I am appalled by those who have done nothing but to push an agenda of a military attack on Iran for years to all of a sudden become the defenders and promoters of human rights for Iranian people.  One cannot be in favor of human rights for Iranians and on the same breath push for starving and bombing them.  I will concede that forced with a choice, sanctions are better than bombs.  But after pushing the sanctions forward for months and months and finally seeing them in place, now we are also hearing the neocons talk 24/7 about a military attack on Iran.

I wasn't fooled and I hope nobody else was, either, when John-Bomb-Bomb-Bomb-Iran-McCain all of a sudden started talking about the Green Movement, the Iranian people's struggle for democracy, and victims such Neda Agha Soltan last year.  In June of this year, during a speech at a NED event, John McCain honored Iran's Green Movement and the people of Iran, pushing for sanctions against the Islamic regime.  These days there is escalated talk about a military attack on Iran by the neocons.  I think John McCain should have stuck to singing Bomb Bomb Bomb Iran, leaving the names of Neda Agha Soltan and Shiva Nazar Ahari out of his speech at the NED Democracy Award (video below).  I doubt very much that a brave human, women's, and children's rights activist such as Shiva Nazar Ahari would have anything in common with Mr. McCain and his friends who are now working day and night to bomb Iran and the same people Shiva has given her life to defending.  From now on, the neocons should just leave Shiva out of it.

Senator John McCain speaks at the 2010 Democracy Award Honoring Iran's Green Movement:

whats up with the personal attacks

by nojanthegreat on

What is up with the personal attacks mangol ?

First of all , the case of the Ashtiani is a legal case not a political one . In Iranian law , if you are married and do the dirty deeds with some one else will be punish . The punishment is death by stoning , even though the number of stoned females in Iran is few and less than 20 pips in last 30 years , people like you need to know such a law has been in place for long time .

I am 25 and I lived in Iran for the first 16 years of my life , and I did not saw a single stoning in my home town Tehran with more than 10 million people living in it . And she is not yet stoned , like other cases

And don’t forget that she has also killed her husband with the help of the lover boy .

As you see she is not that innocent and she have to knew the law before getting naughty .

And about the poor people , they are all over the world , have you seen Africa or even in USA ?

Unemployment of 30 million Americans and under employment of others ?

And in the case of Iran , it is people who are also to blame for the situations .

When in the country you have people who earn billions a year and other who make a few , it is not just the government to be blame.

My family live in Tehran and they are in middle class .my father was an royal navy commander and my mom a high school teacher . After retiring from navy my dad start working in private sector , from 6 in the morning to 6 in evening for a decade and made a good fortune for himself and my mom is doing ok .

I see a lot of young people in my age who didn’t work , or went to school and couldn’t do a 8 to 6 jobs and…..

Other wise I know a lots of Iranians who enjoy their life , you know that more than 90 % of Iranian buy their cars , cash ( from 7000 to 500000 $ ) or buy houses with cash ?

Have you ever been in Iran lately ?

I did not see any of those 40 million people that you are talking about . Iran are living better than yesterday and if you like to help them live better , just next time that you feel like going camping around federal building protest the resent embargo and lack of diplomatic relations .

Ok ? Good night

To "Nojan the NOT SO GREAT"

by Hoshang Targol on

Dude, what I want to know is WHAT WERE YOU SMOKING WHILE BACK THERE?

A UN report on drugs indicates 42% of all world's Opium consumption happens in Iran. So,  even if you weren't, you MUST HAVE HAD SOME SECOND HAND.

I need you to pay very close attention to the info you're about to read:

According to Islamic Republic's own Center for Statestics ( repeat, this is thier own source of info) there are 10,000,000, that's ten million Iranians living below ABSOLUTE POVERT LINES. But that's not all, there's another 30,000,000 living below "normal" poverty levels. If you're not under the influence, you could add those two little numbers and you'll come up with 40,000,000, that forty million Iranians living below poverty line. Again if you're not under the infleunce you could deduct that would be about 60% of the populationof the country.

And for all the "freedom" of movement you "saw," did you also hear about the STONING TO DEATH CASE OF MS.ASHTIANI, or for that matter all the torture, executions and arrests going on, on a daily basis.

My last query is: how much do you get paid to post all this nonesense? Or is the payment in narcotics?

Tara unlike W, Obama's ear is deaf to neo-cons

by Anonymouse on

While he is wobbling on the Mosque issue or fumbled the firing of that black Agricultural worker, the drumb beats of war that are coming from nutjobs are falling on deaf ears. Obama has already said he has no desire to attack Iran.  Unlike W or his father before him in Iraq war 1, no military build up is being made around Iran to "start" something.

In both Iraq cases everyone except Saddam knew and "saw" war was coming.  Israel won't attack, they're supposed to attack by tomorrow August 21st, so if it doesn't happen by this weekend, we're home "free"!

Sargord keeps boasting his military credentials but what is stopping a war is not Iran's midget submarines (that are invisible to sonar because they float in shallow waters but can be shot at by air :-) it is because 2 wars have taken their toll and it won't happen unless there is an absolute something to fight for.

Islamic Republic is using this situation to talk smack.  As for human rights violations this has been a problem from before where Islamic Republic will associate basic decency and generally accepted support for human rights as being in camp with those whom these activists don't even support.  This letter is an example.

We should just keep vigilant and don't let Islamic Republic get away with anything.  They're dumb enough and are creating a bad record day after day.  This regime can't contine like this for ever and it will implode sooner or later and there will be others, mainly those who are in prison and fought this regime's brutality, who'll come along and pick up the pieces.

Everything is sacred

SARGORD IS RIGHT

by nojanthegreat on

Sorry Tara but I think sargord is right

I just came back from Iran 20 days ago , I spend close to 3 months in Iran and saw how it has changed .

I left Iran in 2002 and I just could not believes how it has changed .

Some of us intend to forget how Iran was in 80’s and 90’s . today Iranian have more to live than to die

They have more freedom than before and that’s a fact . I walk in Iran’s street with Mohawk and tattoos and pierce ear . I was able to walk around freely listen to music , and ……..

We drank every night and party all night long . I never see any cops bothering any ladies that were among our group.

I saw Iranian girls dressing like Europeans and get away with it . Not in 80’s or 90’s .

Iranian went to vote for their president , the outcome was not clear, well that almost happen in most of election , ( USA 2000 and 2004 ) . Coming to streets and riot was not an answer , now was it ?

Burning garbage cans and buses and stores and …….

I think its time for Iranian to understand what is illegal is illegal no matter how right it sounds . Arson ( burning garbage cans ) is felony and cost at least a year in federal prison . Assaulting officers of law is felony , battering officers of law is felony . Now you see the video of Iranian youth hitting officers with rocks ?

How any other countries security force will handle that ?

Any ways , Iran is heading to the betters days , its not walking, it is running to the better days.

Now it is up to us to be stupid like the days of 1970’s or be smart and don’t let this old farts and neo cons and in general foreigner have anything to use against our nation. After alll any type of military action and embargo is against Iranians benefit .

Sargord Pirouz

by Tara on

Are you for real?!

If it weren't for people writing and talking about the criminal ways the Islamic regime has treated people over the past year, things would have been even worse than this inside Iran.  They would have hung hundreds of people and arrested even more than the thousands that they did arrest.

I hate people who want to bomb Iran, but that doesn't mean that I will keep quiet about the brutal treatment of Iranians.

I don't need to contribute to demonizing the Islamic Republic of Iran--it is a demonic regime.  Even so, those who want to bomb Iran should be the last ones to talk about human rights in Iran.  Human rights and bombs just don't go together.  I hope you get it now.

Here's the deal, Tara: by

by Sargord Pirouz on

Here's the deal, Tara: by contributing to demonization efforts against the Islamic Republic of Iran, you are acting to facilitate the hawks' case for war.

That's the situation, you better get used to.

My advice is to refrain from such activities, in order to reduce tensions.

Otherwise, if you continue with such and war does occur, you'll have to reconcile the fact that you indirectly contributed to make happen hostilities against the people of Iran.
