Hello everyone,
We are new to this site and we hope you can help us. We are expecting a baby boy soon and yet we have no name! We want a name that is easy to pronounce in English and is also recognized by the Iranian government (not that we really care for them - their official list of names is limited). For example, I like Sasha but it is not recognized by them. We do not want to get two passports with two different names for the baby. So far, we've come up with the name Daniel but most family members say it is the name of an old man (don't know how they arrived at that!), and I am not 100% inlove with the name.
And so here we are! Please help us!
Thanks in advance.

by alimostofi on Wed Oct 14, 2009 05:56 AM PDTKian (Irish use it), means centre of light as the Ki is like Chi in Chinese, and why it is the name for Kianian Dynasty. Keyvan (Kevin) means Saturn. I know more along these ancient Cosmological names. Give the time date and place of birth and I will tell you what the child should be called. That's if you like astrology.

by Bunyip on Wed Oct 14, 2009 05:49 AM PDTI didn't even know there is a list of government sanctioned names in Iran. I must have been living under a rock all these 32 years.
I agree with Ebi's name except A-rash!
by Anonymouse on Wed Oct 14, 2009 05:03 AM PDTNot Daniel either. But the rest are ok, dual usage!
Everything is sacred.

Similar problem!
by Datis on Wed Oct 14, 2009 02:43 AM PDTHi,
My wife and I are expecting our son too but we can't agree on a name too. I think names for baby girls are easy but boys' are more difficult; especially if you are after a name that can be pronounced fairly easily by the non-Persian speaking partners, grand parents and of course others.
We chose a nice Iranian name for our daughter but I think this time round my wife has her heart set for a non-Persian name:(
Well, he is his son too so I am not going to put my foot down for an Iranian name. On the other hand, I don't like Arabic names, biblical names or any names related to any religion. Therefore, we will benefit from your suggestions too.
Thanks all.
I don't know...

by Iraniandudeee on Wed Oct 14, 2009 01:16 AM PDTHow about Saman? Or Cyrus, Darius.... these are all Persian names that are both used in the west and Iran.
