Tabriz is Iranian Azerbaijan’s or to put it more correctly, Azerbaijan homeland’s largest city. Tabriz, which has always been affiliated with heroisms, intellectuals and artists, has a very old and deep history. Located at the foot of the Aynali Mountain, Tabriz was the capital of the Safavi Empire during the reign of Shah Ismail Xatai. In the following periods, Tabriz became the most favorite city of the ruling nations to such an extent that it became the residence of Valiahdin (Shahzade) during the time of the Qajar Kingdom.
The old neighborhoods of South Azerbaijan’s beautiful city include Akhuni, Amire qiz, Angaj, Ami zeineddin, Baghmashe, Baranj, Baghshomal, Bilankouh, Sorkhab, Sinciran, Yanigh, Qaramalek, Qaraaghach, Ghonghabashi, Kuchebagh, Hokmavar, Kuchuvar, Nobar, Rastakouche, Chaharmenar, Shamghazan, Davachi, Maralan, Vijuye, Sheshgalan, Khalatpushan, Khiyavan, Chustduzan and Charandab.
