As the Business Manager for Iranian.com, Wayne discusses the issues related to the operation (but not the content) of the site.
Welcome to my blog!
I'm happy to be here, and I hope you are, too.
I'm Wayne Willis, the Business Manager for Iranian.com. Jahanshah Javid, the Editor and Publisher of Iranian.com asked me join last summer, after we were introduced by some mutual friends. I have a long history in helping small companies grow, and Jahanshah wanted some help in developing the website and what it could provide to the readers.
In order to make the substantial investment in upgrading the site, we decided to incorporate the business as a Limited Liability Company (Iranian, LLC) and raise some capital from among ourselves and a few supporters who wanted to see the site provide more services to the community.
So, last fall, we organized the company and hired a software development team to help build a website we could be proud of. The twists and turns of a major software project is another story. I'm sure there will be a few bugs to iron out, but I'm also sure you'll agree that this site is a substantial improvement.
Anyway, being involved for almost a year now has given me a renewed appreciation for the authors and contributors, for Jahanshah's editorial leadership, for the support of our advertisers, for the loyalty of our readers and for the cultural continuity represented in the pages of Iranian.com.
I wasn't ignorant of the Iranian expatriate community, having been on a management team with Kayvan Alikhani (now with Litescape Technologies) and having read House of Sand and Fog. (Big Smile -- just kidding.) But I've come to appreciate you even more during this last year.
Like I said, I'm happy to be here.

Hello!
by Anonymouse on Thu Nov 01, 2007 11:01 AM PDTWayne where have you been? I don't think many of iranian.com readers knew you were around. At least I didn't know until you posted something today about the ads in someone else's blog.
Anyway, are you following the discussions recently about the bad language and some contributors "striking" or quitting?
We've beaten our discussions with JJ to death. What do you think? as an American what do you think about the issues that are being raised? namely the foul language? I don't think you find this in other website. Do you think anything should be done to curb it and get control of it?
I understand the slogan "Nothing is sacred!" to be a slogan for outsiders to understand our society has a lot of taboos and this site wants to break away with those taboos and be a venue for everyone to feel free.
However, do you think we need to break the "American taboos" too? I don't mean to be afraid of American taboos, just that what if Iranian.com becomes a national story on TV and they report racist or sexist comments are rampant in this website and their slogan is Nothing is Sacred!
What if someone, some day decides to use this against this website and Iranians? You know what the norms are and this site is no choir boys' website. What would be your response and how would you defend this business practice of no boundaries?
Welcome
by Nazy Kaviani on Sun Aug 05, 2007 10:39 AM PDTWelcome Wayne! You have been here a whole year? You are probably the best kept secret of Iranian.com! It's about time the "businenss" side of this free medium is "managed." All the best to you all.
