A liberal ironist who thinks that cruelty is the worst thing we do.
In my liberal utopia, the humiliation of human beings by other human
beings would be ceased not by decree but by imagination, the ability to
see strange people as fellow sufferers.
Although there is nothing called “the aim of writing,” my aim here
is to understand and explain how things in Iran and world,
in the broadest possible sense of the term, hang together— in
particular, how the political and cultural processes and global
integration are remaking Iran, and what should be seen as a
viable political scenarios for the possibility of a liberal Iran.
That said, the main concern of The Iranian Interest is to “take
care of freedom,” as Richard Rorty puts, “truth will take care of
itself.”
