by IranFirst on Tue Mar 23, 2010 07:41 PM PDTIRI is NOT prohabited from Leasing US/Western built Airplanes. But of course IRI was buying and leasing these Russian junks until not too long ago, at the expense of many Iranian lives, to save money.

by Abarmard on Tue Mar 23, 2010 10:14 AM PDTBased on your comment:"Iran has free access to purchase the latest and best Airbus planes which are in some cases better than Boeing"
This is news to many including French government. Sanctions include the sale of Airbus. Welcome to our world.

by MeyBokhor_Manbarbesuzan on Tue Mar 23, 2010 03:37 AM PDTIran is willing to buy Airbus planes but since the planes have US built parts in them, it is the Europeans who are forbidden to sell them to Iran. Iran tries to buy used Airbus planes and if I remember correctly they bought some from Turkey some years ago and are trying to buy several more from China.
Tupolev -334 prices
by persian_yingyang on Tue Mar 23, 2010 02:54 AM PDTPlease note the prices. Russia supposedly sold the license according to this article to Iran for $3billion to manufacture them in Iran. Let's see if they keep their end of the deal.
From wiki:
As of December 2006 there are 55 firm orders for the Tupolev Tu-334 from seven airlines, including Atlant-Soyuz Airlines and there are letters of intent from 24 airlines to obtain another 297 airplanes. [4] [5] Price per unit for the business version is estimated to be around $43-44 million.[3]
One of the customers for the type is Iran and IAIO intends to purchase licenses to assemble the aircraft in Iran by 2011 and manufacture them completely by 2015 alongside Tu-214. It is reported that Iran intends to manufacture more than 130 aircraft of the types within the next ten years. Reportedly Russia seems to have put a $3billion price tag for the licenses and technology transfer. The production of the type will start in Iran concurrently with that in Russia to ensure that Iran is getting the latest in technology.[6]

Airbus planes are better if not equal to Boeings
by persian_yingyang on Tue Mar 23, 2010 02:42 AM PDTIranian leaders and people contend that had it not been for US sanctions, the Boeing airplanes would have the parts needed to make planes safe for commercial travel.
This is far from the truth.
The Boeing airliners for the most part are over 25 years old. Most are from Shah's time. I can't understand for how long Iran wants to use these aging planes even if they get the spare parts.
Iran has free access to purchase the latest and best Airbus planes which are in some cases better than Boeing. Many US domestic flights actually use Airbuses.
Iran should immediately put all the Topolevs and Boeings on sale. Purchase an all Airbus fleet. With 50 Airbuses at $100 million a piece, that is a mere $5 billion. Not much for an industry that has had to do with an aging fleet for God knows how long.
Almost every country has updated their fleets even Ethiopia.
