Pirouz Mojtahed-Zadeh, is an Iranian researcher based in London... One can only marvel at the coincidence that produced Mojtahed-Zadeh's articulation of the same thoughts, in similar language, practically one hundred percent verbatim, and supported by an identical research of identical sources cited in the same manner, recapitulating basically this writer's thought processes, research, and labor >>> GO TO FEATURE

I find myself maturing at the age of 39, like a good wine, or better yet, a good champagne (Good wine should stay still and champaign is full of bubbles waiting to burst and bring joy to any celebration). With no help from family or friends (reasons unknown to myself), I have chosen to put myself at the mercy of all sorts of singles sites on the web. Which brings me to the subject at hand: Khaastegaari, Internet style >>> GO TO FEATURE

BBC Persian Service

Reporters Sans Frontieres, in its annual report, has expressed its concern over the practice of killing or arresting journalists, for their work or their opinions. It also says that seventy-seven journalists were at present being held in jails worldwide. The group says Iran is one of the most repressive countries which closed down thirty media outlets in the past year. Closed Trial in Iran Raises Skepticism

By Geneive Abdo
International Herald Tribune
January 3, 2000

TEHRAN A sensational trial the government vows will get to the bottom of state-sponsored death squads is prompting skepticism among many who say the closed hearings will protect clerics, intelligence agents and high-ranking officials behind the killings.

Since the sessions began more than a week ago, charges from pro-reform politicians that the wrong defendants are on trial have renewed national tensions that the state intended to quell by bringing the case to court >>> FULL TEXT

* Have some ma'refat

Ataollah Togha writes: My question concerns scanning Akbar Ganji's book ["The red-robbed highness"], or any other book. Isn't that a violation of copyright?

I think people can buy Ganji's book very easily through the internet, and it would be to the benefit of this brave prisoner if you only published some pages, or hell, some chapters of his book, rather than in its entirety.

I just think what you're doing is far from "ma'refat", for which I know no American word.

* We are not Negroes

Bahram writes: In reply to Dokhi Fassihian ["Thank god for..."], ... Iranians are Caucasians, akin to the Georgians, Armenians, Chechen, Tajik, and Arab peoples. We are an ethnic and cultural group making up the Iranian Nation! Just like the Jews, we are a group that can be defined as a PEOPLE and if Iranians marry non-iranians then there will be no more Iranians.This is a simple concept, even for an idiot like you >>> FULL TEXT

* Drowing in this abyss

Shervin writes: I've just read the note from Unlimited Madness ["You like Iran to be like America"]...

I'm Iranian, too. And I live in Iran where I know people who don't know the difference between "F_ck you" and "God Bless You" and they shoot each other. I know teenage girls who have sex more than 10 times a day. There are men who don't think about America when they're having sex with a girl the same age as their daughters. I know wives in Iran who cheat and they haven't got MTV in their houses >>> FULL TEXT

* No homosexuality, please

B.H. writes: I preferably do not want to see the promotion of homosexuality in your wonderful and educational publication ["News & views"].

    Poem

    Translation of today's poem by Zara Houshmand:

    I'm the source of such rot, such stupidity,

    That noone, because of me, lives happily.

    I shout at everyone, they shout at me;

    I demand justice; who gets it from me?
