* First Iranian library in Denver
The Iranian community in Denver, Colorado, is proud to inaugurate its
first library and women's research center on Sunday March 11, 2001, 3-7pm.
This celebration coincides with International Womens' Day, March 8th.
There will be short films by Iranian women, poetry reading, talk, and
live music. Daycare will be provided for children 3+ years of age. The

Since 1990, when the UCLA Archive organized the first exhibition in
the US of Iranian post-revolutionary films (curated by Hamid Naficy), that
nation's cinema has cemented its reputation as one of the world's most
vibrant. More recently, younger filmmakers like Jafar Panahi (THE WHITE
BALLOON), Samira Makhmalbaf (THE APPLE, BLACKBOARD), Parviz Shahbazi (TRAVELER
FROM THE SOUTH) and Hassan Yektapanah (DJOMEH) have made impressive debuts.

When I took on heading the project of supporting the Iranian refugees
in the Washington area, it was because no one else volunteered. The next
day it hit me how perfect our decision was to support this group as an
