So far, it seems that Iran's support for Hamas is limited to political and diplomatic efforts. The choice of Said Jalili, the secretary of the Supreme Council for National Security, for a diplomatic trip to Lebanon and Syria should also be understood in this context. Angels of War

Tom Cruise’s WWII thriller Valkyrie has had some oddly nonsensical reviews. I saw the film a few hours after I had returned from a Gaza protest rally; so images of civilian massacre were freshly painful on my mind, making one particular symbolism in the film go far with me. Von Stuaffenberg had lost an eye to the enemy, and the film made sure the audience kept that in mind. Despite the cruel wording, the "eye for an eye" directive in the Torah is meant to limit the retribution one can exact. It is a ban against unbridled vengeance. If someone pokes out your eye, then take his eye if you must. But you are forbidden to go on to kill his wife, burn his kids, tear down his house, take away his livelihood, and devastate his land>>>

صبر بی پایان نیست

در عصری که سیاستمداران غرب صدای مستقل و وجاهت اخلاقی خود را در بارۀ کشتارغزه از دست داده اند نوبت روشنفکران است که در حد امکان و در دایرۀ محدودی که رسانه های غرب برای دگر اندیشان اختصاص می دهند به تنویر افکار و راه یابی برای خروج از این بن بست خونین بپردازند. در این مجال چکیده ای از سه مقالۀ مهم از روشنفکران برجسته را مطرح خواهم کرد: خانم نئومی کلاین، نویسندۀ یهودی الاصل کانادائی شنبۀ گذشته (10 ژانویۀ 2009) در روزنامۀ گاردین در مقاله ای تحت عنوان "دیگر بس است. زمان تحریم فرا رسیده"، با مقایسۀ اسرائیل و متحد سابقش حکومت نژاد پرست آفریقای جنوبی یکی از طرق موثر مبارزۀ جهانی با اسرائیل و حامیانش را تحریم اقتصادی و بیرون کشیدن سرمایه ها اسرائیل و سازمانهای وابسته به آن دانسته، آنهم نه از سوی دولتهائی که عجز خود را در مقابله با تجاوز اسرائیل نشان داده اند بلکه از طرف ملتهای جهان. >>>

برنده و بازنده

اين داستان مال سال 1344 است، در سرآغاز ده سالی سراسر از اينگونه تجربه ها که در پائيز 1357 به نقطۀ عطف خود می رسيدند. اکنون من در انگلستان دانشجو بودم و ايران در آتش شورش های خيابانی می سوخت، در جهانی که هنوز اينترنت و ماهواره در آن پا ننهاده بودند، هر روز خبر تازه ای از ايران می رسيد، سيل جمعيت در خيابان ها براه افتاده بود و آنچه از جانب پادشاه «فضای باز سياسی» خوانده شده و خود را بر شرايط آن روز تحميل کرده بود، هر لحظه افق های تازه و دلهره آورتری را در برابر ما می گشود. آن روزها احمد شاملو از نيويورک، و غلامحسين ساعدی از پاريس به لندن آمده بودند، تا نشريۀ «ايرانشهر» را منتشر کنند. شاملو قبل از آمدن، تلفنی از چند تن نويسندگان ساکن لندن، و از جمله مرا، به همکاری دعوت کرده بود. زمانی را به ياد دارم که شاملو و آيدا به لندن آمده و در حومۀ جنوبی اين شهر خانه ای کرايه کرده بودند و ساعدی نيز به آنها پيوسته بود. >>>
