Was the Shah delusional?

I had compiled this article just before the death of my father Nosratollah Amini and now in his memory and on the occasion of 29th of Ordibehesht (18th of May), Mohammad Mosaddeq’s birthday, I am posting it. My father was an honest, kind and caring human being who was not just the attorney to Mosaddeq, but to many others, including Gholam Reza Takhti and Shamshiri. May his memory live in the hearts and minds of those who knew him. The following are excerpts from the Shah’s last book translated from the original French by Teresa Waugh and published in Great Britain by Michael Joseph Ltd in 1980. As I was reading this interesting text, I came across these few passages>>>

هوس های سکسی مارسیا

مارسیا هر روز صبح که از خواب بیدار می شود پرده های کلفت اتاق را به کناری می زند تا آفتاب بی رمق جزیره تمام زورش را بزند تا کمی اتاق را گرم کند آنقدر که صورت در سایه مانده اش را روشن تر کند تا که چشم هایش رمق بگیرد. تصور کن نور درست ما بین چشم های سیاه و درشتش بتابد و مارسیا شروع به خندیدن کند. صدای ریزش آب چه از داخل حمام و چه از شیرهای دستشویی و آشپزخانه باید از خانه شنیده شود. به قول خودش حس جنسی غالبی دارد که روزش را می سازد. با حوله ی کوچکی که به رنگ شیره ای است از حمام بیرون می آید و آگاهانه سعی می کند سفت به کمرش بسته نباشد تا با تلنگری به پایین غلت بخورد و سعی هم می کند که حواس پرت نشان داده شود!>>>

Human Rights: Ba-Humbug?

Large sums of money have been and are being spent on creating seemingly spontaneously grown citizens' organizations that shape and give direction to dissent among the populations over-lorded by governments not liked by the U.S. It is natural that, in these half-covert operations, human rights are used as a wedge issue. Because of this push by the right into the discursive and practical area of 'human rights', some western leftists have abandoned this area of advocacy when it comes to countries they perceive as being under attack by the imperialists, and therefore most talk of human rights violations in such countries has become taboo, since it allegedly paves the way for the continuation of the imperialist interventions, and subjugation of more natives around the world>>>

نذر آزادی!

در پديده ی موسوم به «همگرايي بخشی از جنبش زنان» می بينيم که زنان پديد آورنده ی آن از کانديداهای رياست جمهوری «مطالبه ی حقوق» کرده اند. روشن است که اين حق دموکراتيک اين زنان است که چنين خواستی را با چنان کانديداهایی مطرح سازند. اما طرفه آن است که برخی از اين زنان حاضر نيستند بپذيرند که ديگران هم حق دارند موضع گيری و برخورد آن ها را ـ آن هم در جريان انتخاباتی غير دموکراتيک ـ نقد کنند. به راستی چرا بخشی از جنبش زنان حق ندارد به بخش ديگر اين جنبش بگويد «خواست شما در زير سقف حکومت اسلامی، به خصوص آنجا که سخن از پذيرش کنوانسيون رفع تبعيض "با حفظ موازين اسلامی" پيش می آيد تخفيف و پايين آوردن حق زنان است؟» و به راستی چرا باور ندارند که ديگرانی هم حق دارند که بگويند: «اين مطالبه و آن پاسخگويي از جانب کانديداها يعنی درجا زدن در قوانين موجود >>>

آغاز یك تحول

در آستانه رأی‌گیری ۲۲ خرداد، بیش از ۵۰ نفر از شخصیت‌های سیاسی و حقوق بشری، و فعالان كارگری، دانشجویی و زنان در ایران به تشكیل نهادی تحت عنوان «همبستگی برای دمکراسی و حقوق بشر درايران» دست زده‌اند و اولین بیانیه خود را منتشر كرده‌اند. در این بیانیه، از ۱۲‌ ماده به عنوان اصول «مورد نظر» این نهاد یاد شده است. در باره شكل وساختار نهاد، اما، ابهاماتی وجود دارد. در یك جا از این هم‌بستگی به عنوان «جنبش» یاد شده است؛ و در اطلاعیه دیگری كه منتشر شده از آن به عنوان «كمیته» نام برده شده و تعدادی از «مؤسسان» آن تحت عنوان «اعضای شورای موقت اجرایی كمیته» مشخص گردیده‌اند. در اطلاعیه اولی، از «پیوستن» افراد دیگری ‌به «این جنبش» یاد شده است، و در دومی از «همه ایرانیان و آزادی‌خواهان جهان» خواسته شده كه «كمیته را در راستای ‌اهداف خود یاری ‌كنند»>>>

Defending conscience

Change for Equality on May 2nd reported that six members of One Million Signatures Campaign, the campaign to change the discriminatory laws, were arrested during and after a peaceful demonstration which was held to celebrate May 1st. The police forces attacked the demonstrators even before they congregated and left many of the people with bloody faces. There were more than 150 arrested and among them was Campaign activist Kaveh Mozafari, Jelveh Javaheri’s husband. Jelveh was home when the intelligence forces raided their residence taking everything that potentially might have been useful to fabricate a case for pressing a charge against them including unthinkable and random items such as Jelveh and Kaveh’s University degrees!>>>

Sexual revolution

One of the best-known examples of love and reciprocity in mystic circles appears in an account of the life of Rumi, the greatest Sufi poet in the Persian language, whose followers founded the Mevle known for its ritual whirling. While living in Konya in 1244, Rumi forged an intense bond with Mawlana Shams Tabrizi, a mystic and accomplished teacher who claimed to have reached union with God. Theirs was a unique relationship since both were mature and renowned masters. Franklin Lewis writes that contemporaries defined their relationship as falling in love, which Franklin qualifies as a “Platonic love of a disciple for his teacher.” Rumi took Shams home, “ where they lived happily for a year or two before the disciples of Rumi became to act on their jealousy”>>>

It’s a New Bam

Arash Arjmand and his family made the day’s drive from Shiraz to wonder what this room with no roof and no door might have been. چرا غارنشينی بايد چيز بدی باشد؟

اخيرا" خبری ديدم در مورد دهکده ميمند در کرمان که گويا بخاطر وجود گنج يابان، در خطر قرار دارد (خطری که تقريبا" هر دهکده و منطقه ای در ايران را تهديد می کند). نويسنده مطلب برای تشخص دادن به ميمند، گفته بود که دهکده 12 هزارسال آثار سکونت دارد و مردم آن به دين «مهری» پايبند هستند که قبل از «ظهور» زرتشت در ايران وجود داشته، و حالا بعد از حضور اسلام در ايران، ساکننانش به غارها پناه برده اند که از شر اعراب در امان بمانند و حالا جمهوری اسلامی، که در ذهن دوستان حمله دوم اعراب است، سعی در تخريب دهکده از طريق تشويق غارت گران و «مسلمان» کردن مردم مهرپرست آن دارد. بعد هم ادعا کرده اند که زبان مردم ميمند به دليل زندگی در غارها «دستنخورده» مانده و کلمات «ساسانی» در آن موجود است. فکر نکنم لازم باشد که کسی تخصصی در تاريخ يا زبان شناسی ايران داشته باشد که بتواند مشکلات موجود در اين «گزارش» را ببيند و تاسف بخورد >>>

I am no longer waiting

It's sick, it's been sick for a very long time. As I sit here by its bedside,I hear it taking its last breaths. I am waiting. I only recently found out it was sick, but I was told it had been sick for a very long time. I had never seen the signs. How could I have known? It had always been that way, ever since I first met it, it had been sick. It was never well. No one told me. I am waiting. It sometimes goes into a coma and my heart stops beating, stops hoping. Is it really gone?Can this be? But it always comes back, regains consciousness; I keep on hoping. I am waiting.>>>

نمی‌توان فراموش كرد

تبلیغات انتخاباتی دو نامزد اصلی‌ جناح اصلاح طلب، آقایان كروبی و موسوی، ابعاد جدیدی به خود گرفته است. این دو كه هم برای كشاندن مردم به صحنه رأی‌گیری تلاش می‌كنند و هم برای بالا بردن سطح آرای خود با یك‌دیگر به رقابت برخاسته‌اند، مرتبا بر دامنه وعده‌های خود می‌افزایند و قشرهای جدیدی از مردم را مخاطب خود قرار می‌دهند. زنان، اقلیت‌های قومی و مذهبی، جوانان، دانشجویان، كارگران و سایر قشرهای محروم جامعه را مخاطب قرار می‌دهند، از حكومت قانون و حقوق بشر و حقوق شهروندی و رفع تبعیض و توزیع عادلانه درآمد نفت سخن می‌گویند، و بر تعهد خود به حقوق و آزادی‌های‌ مدنی تأكید می‌ورزند. در عین حال، این همه وعده‌ و وعیدها ظاهرا جوش و خروش چندانی در بین مردم ایجاد نكرده است و نگرانی نامزدها در مورد پایین بودن میزان رأی هم‌چنان ادامه دارد>>>

Life is still simple

The air outside smelled of farmland. The two-lane paved road to our hotel meandered through farms and ended a few miles before we reached it. We continued on a dirt road. “Ninety percent of the Lao live about six kilometers from a paved road,” our guide said. “And remember, the word is Lao and not Laos or Laotian. It is the name of the people, the country, the language, the music, everything.” Everything looked quaintly simple as that! >>>
