Immoral defamation against MEK's powerful backers

18-Mar-2012 (10 comments)
The State Department's hysterical animosity towards the MEK reminds many Iranians of the story of the late Prime Minister Mohammad Mossadegh who nationalised Iran's oil industry only to be toppled by a US-led coup in 1953. At that time, the CIA sponsored coup was seen by Iranians as an unjustified US intervention to keep Shah Mohammad-Reza Pahlavi in power, in spite of public detestation of his regime>>>

Reza Allamehzadeh’s documentary about Bahai persecution

14-Mar-2012 (21 comments)
On the way to viewing Iranian Taboo the car radio program was about a 340 ton rock being dragged 60 miles to the Los Angeles County Museum of Modern Art. A surreal waste of effort, perhaps to make that very point! As it turns out, this extravagant expenditure of energy isn’t nearly as absurd as the efforts of the Islamic Republic to create terror and frustration for Iran’s Bahais. The difference is that while the artistic statement is a capricious waste, the Regime’s political statement is a malicious overexertion>>>

REALITY TV

The bad, the worse and the ugly

Bravo's "Shahs of Sunset"

12-Mar-2012 (23 comments)
To say that the “Shahs of Sunset” is “bad” would be a redundancy, given that it’s a so-called “reality show.” These days, even the most trusting television viewer knows there’s nothing “real” about reality TV. As Time magazine put it six years ago, “Quotes are manufactured, crushes and feuds constructed out of whole cloth, episodes planned in multi-act ‘storyboards’ before taping, scenes stitched together out of footage shot days apart.”>>>

IRANIANS

Knock Ourselves Down

Remove this cheap shot at Persians

08-Mar-2012 (22 comments)
“A Separation” is the story of a typical family going through normal life issues, a sentiment any culture would appreciate. The film is about the struggle of a mother wanting the best for her daughter, the struggle of a son taking care of his elderly father. These are the issues most Iranian American families are concerned with every day; kind, upstanding and respectful sentiments. Enter “Shah's of Sunset," produced by Ryan Seacrest. There we go again knocking ourselves down>>>

FILM

Inez and Gil, A Separation

Woody Allen at his best

08-Mar-2012 (2 comments)
Woody Allen won the 2012 Academy award for the best original screenplay for ‘Midnight in Paris’ – His fourth Oscar. He outshined, among other nominees, Asghar Farhadi who was nominated for ‘A Separation.’ Storylines in the two movies are however, in some respects at least, similar. Allen’s may be even seen as a post-modern sequel to Farhadi’s. In both, life is complicated and unsatisfying, and there is that chimerical notion of another age or place beholden as golden and enchanted>>>

OSCAR

A Separation Before Unification

A separation between the government of Iran and people of Iran

06-Mar-2012 (3 comments)
There is no doubt that there are many evils live in Iran but Farhadi decides to ignore them and glorify the decency, dignity, and honesty of Persian people. There are no subliminal messages of nationalism, racism, or patriotism in his movie. Farhadi illustrates the agony of life in Iran as most Iranians experience daily since there is no easy life for anybody. Most middle class and heartbrokenly lower class are used to deal with daily struggles for their ends meats>>>

FARHADI

04-Mar-2012 (one comment)

01-Mar-2012 (16 comments)

SEPARATION

Relationships & Class

Asghar Farhadi’s films raise questions about men and woman

23-Feb-2012 (one comment)
Why has this film drawn so much attention? Many Iranian and international film critics have pointed out that this film in particular and Farhadi’s films in general are preoccupied with ethical quandaries and the search for truth. Other critics have singled out Farhadi’s ability to present complex characters and the complexity of human relationships in general. No character is portrayed as entirely heroic or entirely evil. What are some of the key themes that Farhadi has singled out in "A Separation"?>>>

MARRIAGE

Open wounds of separation

Another take on Asghar Farhadi’s Oscar-nominated film

12-Feb-2012 (15 comments)
‘A Separation’ is both modern and feminist. Farhadi’s endearing characters however, are neither. The film is modern in the way it takes responsibility off the shoulders of family, community, society, government, and foreign or supernatural powers, and smacks it squarely on the forehead of the individual – a cultural coup d’état for Iranians. In ‘A Separation’, it is the individual who makes – or, can make – bad choices, and it is mostly the individual who pays for the choices made – victimhood is discounted>>>
