On the occasion of Valentine's Day, a day dedicated to verbalizing love for the object of affection, how about a story of a love in full bloom. No not another mushy personal story nor a vignette of one, rather a nonfictional snippet of an affair of the heart.
It is the story of a dynamic love that as it ages it is rejuvenated, giddiness of love is reinforced by wisdom of thought, maturity brings youthful strength, intensity of passion begets clarity, and the more tender it becomes as time passes. It is the story of such potent desire that eventually it overcomes customs, deeply cherished religious beliefs and doctrines.
Yes, the subject is the ongoing political process in the U.S. In the heat of the moment, the back and forth political arguments, pro this and anti that, the platitudes and mudslinging one thing is for certain the American Democracy has already handed the world another manifestation of its perpetual reincarnation in pursuit of unequivocal love of freedom.
In that context it really does not matter whom the winner of the next Presidential election is, the actual winner has already been declared, Democracy.
The victory is in the color, gender and age composition of the contenders. Till January 1, 1863 this society legally practiced the custom of enslaving human beings adorned with abundance of ultimate natural UV protectant Melanin and eventually went to actual hot war with itself over its abolition.
Even as little as couple of decades ago the mere sighting of mixed couples walking together would turn heads and disapproving frowns.
The current frontrunner in the up and down twisting road to party nomination is a live testament to the ability of the system to empower the very same society to repair its failings.
The women's suffrage pioneer Susan B. Anthony did not live long enough to see the passage of the nineteenth amendment to the constitution affirming the voting right of the women in 1920. The other contender for the Presidency of the United States is a person who represents a gender that almost no one could even fathom the idea not that long ago.
A society that glorifies and idolizes youth and spends inordinate amount of its talent and treasure, let alone suffering surgery pain, in its pursuit, would have elected the oldest to date President should the opposing party’s frontrunner become one.
The only force powerful enough to overcome all obstacles in pursuit of these goals is love. To all those who love freedom, cherish it and love to spread it, Happy Valentine's.

RE: Democracy, my a....:)
by perseus (not verified) on Mon Feb 18, 2008 06:33 AM PSTbased on your factual data, we need to delegate the authority of the state to the Mullah's as they know your goodness much better than you and you're just a sheep... .
If money rules, I wonder how these candidates have to kill themselves to convince the society hwo they are the right candidate to run?! If money rules why Mitt Romney with the net asset value over a quarte of abillion dollar lose and a veteran with empty pocket wins?
You just know how to manipulate the baseless claims rooted from the rusted conspiracy theory... Keep on justifying the middle age style monarchies with your outdated fallacies... an be happy with it!
Your retarded rusted mindset even had not that much value to be replied with some one like me but I did it as some shameless like you should shut your disgusting mouth up when the same time in our hijacked country, my classmates have been imprisoned... Thats all enough for disqualifying the dirty distractors who either too stupid or too sinister trying to misguide people...
You can fool some of the people all of the time and you can fool all of the people some of the time but you can not ever fool all of the people all of the time... Abraham Lincoln
Democracy, my a....:)

Re-Anonymous1000
by Anonymouss (not verified) on Fri Feb 15, 2008 02:19 PM PSTIt is refreshing to see some one openly profess his/her approval of at least four aspects of America and with the same breath not practice even one of them.
Like I said Sad. You really need to do reading
by Anonymous1000 (not verified) on Fri Feb 15, 2008 08:08 AM PSTYou really lack education or just like a typical Iranian "Must open your mouth" at any time for any reasons just to pretend you are educated.
Read my reply. I said I am not comparing our system with US. No one is talking about that.
But if you want to go to that route, let me summarize the whole thing for you:
We have no system in Iran. We never did for 2500 years and still do not. But at least we do not preemptive strike against another nation and export our democracy.
Same Jefferson that wrote the constitution had 300 slaves. US Constitution was never written for equal rights. That is why today you MUST have so many new laws and amendments to offset what Jefferson did.
This is not democracy. But what I would add is the following which makes this society great: (I like US but not their government or Foreign Policy)
Tolerance. Americans tolerate different opinion, etc
Respect: They respect people with different opinion.
Acceptance: They not only respect but accept different ideas
Compromise: They know they MUST Compromise to go forward.
These four elements are the main elements that separate American society from Middle East or even Europe.
American people know they are being shafted daily. But they can not do any thing about it. Most Americans are in debt up to their eyeballs and need to work to keep their heads above water. Like they say here: The difference between an American worker and a homeless person is ONE PAYCHECK.
Please do some reading. And some thinking before writing garbage.

by Zangeneh (not verified) on Fri Feb 15, 2008 06:58 AM PSTThank you for reading and commenting. I could not agree more with the gist of your comment that American democracy is not perfect or a panacea. But being from Iran, I take this Democracy, as is, over what we have had and are still burdened with in a heartbeat. The tenet of the piece was in praise of a system that allows perpetual corrective measures to be implemented. True there have been Moslem presidents, India, a none-Moslem majority democratic country and Sukarno’s daughter in Indonesia; there have been Muslim woman prime minters too. FYI, Jefferson wrote the Declaration of Independence, the constitution’s authors were the so called framers. As to Jefferson’s attitude toward people I suggest reading his wall of separation letter.
This is Sad... for Iranians
by Anonymous1000 (not verified) on Fri Feb 15, 2008 05:02 AM PSTWhen I read this article I would say I am not shocked but just sad. How educated Iranian think out of their ass rather than using their mind.
First, I am not planning to compare US election to any other country. They have to be on different stage by themselves because they claim their democracy is second to none and they like to export their democracy to other countries.
So now let’s evaluate this election:
1) This is the number one superpower country in the world and in the 21st century, the biggest issue of this election is electing a woman or black man to presidency. This is sad. Islamic countries have had woman president but not the biggest democracy in the world.
2) The biggest democracy in the world does not count the people vote for election. Before the writer opens his big mouth, do some homework and learn about electoral votes and what Jefferson said when he wrote the constitution of US. Yes the same man who wrote about every man and woman is equal but had 300 slaves in his yard working for him and getting the slave women pregnant. He said American people are too stupid to be allowed to pick US president so we MUST have educated Electoral College to pick our president.
3) Half of this country primary is Caucus. Do you know what the fuck caucus is? It is a few people who pick their party candidate. Not popular votes. So average Joe Blow’s vote in Ohio, or WV does not count.
I can go one for several more pages. But you get the point. Please get your head out of your ass, go to library and learn before writing.
Re-Get serious buddy! Democracy??
by Anonymouss (not verified) on Fri Feb 15, 2008 02:52 AM PSTYour erudite comment implies you are immune to naiveté of masses, as such don’t you think informing the gullible masses is more productive than just reminding them of their as you put it “naiivity”?
Get serious buddy! Democracy??

To me this is a sign of Gods promise coming true .The fact that we are all equall in Gods eye.The time has come for humanity to see a black man and a woman to compete for the presidency of USA.
We think every one thinks this way and equality of races and women and men is a given fact. But look at the first respondent He or she thinks you are on crack!!!
