In the wake of the latest report from the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), clearing Iran of all the outstanding issues from its own work plan of August 2007, Iran has also agreed to accept and observe the Additional Protocol if its nuclear file is returned back to the IAEA jurisdiction from the UN Security Council. The Campaign Against Sanctions and Military Intervention in Iran (CASMII) appeals to the 5+1 group to positively consider Iran’s offer of implementing the Additional Protocol and enter into unconditional negotiations with Iran.
Given the declaration of IAEA on February 22, which stated that the agency no longer considers as outstanding the six issues in its work plan on verifying Iran’s nuclear programme and given the lack of any evidence of an active nuclear weapons program - confirmed even by America's own intelligence community and published in the National Intelligence Estimate in December 2007- there is no justification for keeping Iran’s file at the UN Security Council.
Iran’s decision to implement the Additional Protocol creates an unprecedented opportunity for the UN Security Council (UNSC) to de-escalate this sensitive standoff. Such a move would allow the agency to take full advantage of the Additional Protocol to finish investigating Iran's nuclear activities, and keep an intrusive watch on Iran's on-going nuclear energy program.
Nuclear inspections by the IAEA have proven to be the best and only non-violent safeguard against nuclear weapons proliferation. No country in the world has been able to develop nuclear weapons while its programme has been under the inspections of the IAEA. In the case of Iraq, nearly the entire weapons program was exposed and neutralized in the 1990's through a rigorous inspections process. Had the program not been needlessly politicized by the US administration in its single-minded drive toward war, it would have validated that no nuclear weapons threat existed in Iraq. Instead, thirteen years of UN sanctions on Iraq which killed over half a million Iraqi children, finally led to an illegal invasion which has brought a catastrophe for the people of this country.
If the aim is to make sure that Iran's program does not divert nuclear materials for weaponization, the Additional Protocol is the best tool available. Designed in 1993, it allows for tougher, more intrusive inspections. It ensures full accounting of nuclear materials and snap visits to any suspect location with 2 hours notice. Rights to inspect all aspects of Iranian nuclear energy program, from production of Uranium to Research and Development are exclusively granted. More stringent information sharing requirements are also included. The IAEA Additional Protocol is hardly a free ride for Iran. Following US action in Iraq, Iranian leaders are justifiably nervous about granting such intrusive rights to foreign inspectors.
Such a scenario allows for a peaceful resolution of the current standoff and severely undermines any justification for armed conflict over this issue. It is time for all sides to step back from the brink of a historic disaster and pursue peace through cooperation, not threats and hostility.

Zion, quit dissembling so much, of course it is true
by Q on Tue Mar 04, 2008 07:05 PM PSTI know it's hard to believe with all that Zionist propaganda... But it is the truth. The Original 6 issues were addressed and cleared. Only a brand new issue only revealed a few weeks ago remains. And that only because there wasn't enough time to investigate the accusations. Read for yourself.
The IAEA issued a report on the implementation of safeguards in Iran on February 22, 2008. With respect to the report, IAEA Director Mohammad ElBaradei stated that "We have managed to clarify all the remaining outstanding issues, including the most important issue, which is the scope and nature of Iran´s enrichment programme" with the exception of a single issue, "and that is the alleged weaponization studies that supposedly Iran has conducted in the past."

You need to get out more, my friend.
Not True
by Zion on Tue Mar 04, 2008 05:51 PM PST`Given the declaration of IAEA on February 22, which stated that the agency no longer considers as outstanding the six issues in its work plan on verifying Iran’s nuclear programme and given the lack of any evidence of an active nuclear weapons program - confirmed even by America's own intelligence community and published in the National Intelligence Estimate in December 2007- there is no justification for keeping Iran’s file at the UN Security Council.`
That is simply not a correct understanding of what the IAEA and the NIE have stated. In fact, it is a deliberate mus-understanding of it together with fabricated claims. That is why the Security Council voted for the third round of sanctions against Islamic Republic of Iran with 14 votes and one abstention.
The exact OPPOSITE of what this lobbying attempt has demanded.
So the issue is clear to everyone except the pro-IRI lobbyists.
Jamshid,
by Anonymous8 (not verified) on Tue Mar 04, 2008 04:52 PM PSTJamshid, the way logic works, is that you have to prove positive you can't set conditions for proving negative. This is logic 101.
Jamshid's question has already been asnwered by NIAC here

CASMII and NIAC
by jamshid on Tue Mar 04, 2008 04:34 PM PSTCASMII and NIAC are two IRI fronts operating in the US. I will gladly change my mind, eat my words, and even join and contribute my time to both CASMII and NIAC, if...
1. They continue their efforts against war and sanctions (no exceptions), BUT...
2. At the same time, they vehemently and firmly condemn the IRI for the following (no exceptions):
Violations of human rights,
Torturing of political prisoners,
Execution of Iranians who oppose the IRI,
Stoning and lashing,
Surpression of freedom and democracy,
Mistreatment of women,
Persecution of religious minorities,
Mistreatment of ethnic minorities,
Lack of accountability to the public,
Mismanangement of the economy,
Failing to report to the public in detail where Iran's oil revenue is going,
Allowing Russia and China to make huge profits at Iran's expense, in one way deals,
Leaving the various "bonyaads" intact, and not returning control of their finances to their rightful owners, the people of Iran,
Spending Iranians' money in Lebanon, Palestine, Iraq and other countries at the expense of Iranians in Khuzestan, Bam and many other poverty stricken areas of Iran,
Creating an environment of rampant financial and moral corruption,
Having no social programs to curb the ever increasing rate of drug addiction and prostitution,
Failing to create a social and political environment where Iran's brains would remain or could return, and serve in Iran.
The list can go on.
The day that CASMII and NIAC comdemn the IRI for all of the above, I will retract my words. But as long as they oppose war and sanctions but refuse to firmly and relentlessly comdemn the IRI for the crimes it is committing against Iranians, it could only mean one thing:
That they are just two IRI lobbies and fronts operating in the US to protect the interests of the IRI.
Unfortunately that's what CASMII and NIAC are.
The unanimity of the Islamist
by Fred on Tue Mar 04, 2008 01:46 PM PSTIn defense of her wacky opinions the “are you being served” British sitcom star Mrs. Slockmm, used to say “I am unanimous in that”. The Islamist of the Islamist Republic celebrate their “nuclear victory”, announce the “resolution” of the nuclear issue or a winning “equation” that is DOA the same way. BTW a copy of Black Law or its well translated Persian version by Bahman Aghaee goes a long way in clarifying some misconceptions.
So... you were just slandering Fred. That's important to know.
by Q on Tue Mar 04, 2008 01:25 PM PSTOthers who read this writing will understand the nature of these baseless attacks and your continued use of "Islamist" as an accusation. Thanks for clarifying.
If you read carefully (which you did not), you would see that there is no element of parliament necessary in this equation. It's a performance based system, if Iran does not deliver, Iran does not get the benefits. This is clear to IAEA who had already made this arrangement. The question is why do some people think they know better than IAEA what is good enough of an agreement.
Another question is why someone who made POSITIVE STATEMENT of slander purposefully pretend that a RHETORICAL QUESTION is the same thing? A chance to play victim perhaps? Now that does sound like something MEK would do!
Iranian Nuclear issue is resolved
by Abarmard on Tue Mar 04, 2008 01:18 PM PSTAll these none sense that the West is imposing on Iran are just excuses to point out the greater disagreement. If they really cared about the Iranian nuclear issue, they would have welcomed the Iranian gesture during president Khatami, when Iran held its Nuclear activity for two years. No need to discuss more, the facts speak for themselves.
For God sake, This is not
by Anonymousj (not verified) on Tue Mar 04, 2008 01:09 PM PSTFor God sake, This is not about Nuclear weapons. Wake up. The power that be have decided to get rid of this regime with or without nuclear weapons. The IRI knows that too. We need some creative solutions to this problem. Empty rhetorics, tireless slogans, irrelevant arguments are not going to save our families from being bombed...

Give us one shred of proof Fred
by Anon46 (not verified) on Tue Mar 04, 2008 12:55 PM PSTHey Fred- Do you really think that if you and your multiple sign-in names come here every day and leave repetitive comments accusing NIAC or CASMII of being the "IRI lobby," that suddenly people will stop asking for proof and take your word for it?
While repetition is a core tactic of propagandists, there are enough smart people who visit this site who will continue to call you on your baseless accusations.
A fact is a fact
by Fred on Tue Mar 04, 2008 12:43 PM PSTMore power to the Islamists who believe in the delineation of power in their Islamist Republic and trust its “executive” branch. As the one who is not into parsing words Islamist style, the statement was and still is valid; the ersatz Islamist parliament has not ratified the additional Protocol. Should stating a fact makes one an MEK member or whatever else the Islamist can hurl in lieu of insult so be it.
Fred
by AnonymousIrani (not verified) on Tue Mar 04, 2008 12:41 PM PSTWhat is ersatz parliament?
Your answer is very weak. I have never heard UN or IAEA complain about the parliament on this issue.
Fred, think of your Ressurection
by Pouyan (not verified) on Tue Mar 04, 2008 12:17 PM PSTFred, Think of your afterlife! NIAC 7 CASMII are two arms of Hazrat Abass. Please mind your afterlife if you do not mind a sword stuck in your back in this life.
Fred: why do you call them Islamist Lobby, are you MEK?
by Q on Tue Mar 04, 2008 12:09 PM PSTplease don't make up lies. If you have proof, just show it. I am very interested. But I'm affraid you are slandering as usual.
No, actually you are also misinformed. First off, Iran already agreed and implemented the AP for 2 years. This was good enough at the time for IAEA. It was only after EU-3 would not recognize Iran's rights that this has stopped. But even so, the work agreement under current plan goes beyond the AP requirements.
The hardline dominated parliament has never considered the ratification in exchange for returning Iran's file to the IAEA. The UN is not dealing with "parliament" it is dealing with Iran's executive which ALREADY agreed and implemented the AP for years, "as if it was ratified." This is not something that can be "faked." Either the inspection requirements are allowed or not allowed.
I'm curious why people like yourself see implementing AP as a bad thing? How could it be a loss for anyone?
I think you just don't like compromise and are trying to find any excuse to promote confrontation with Iran.
The reinterpretation
by Fred on Tue Mar 04, 2008 11:44 AM PSTSorry for not mentioning at least one instance for they are well known to the interested. The Islamist lobby NIAC/CASMII’s rational is based on the rigorous implementation of the intrusive Additional protocol. Were the international community bunch of dunces who trusted the IRI, the Islamist Republic’s ersatz parliament has openly refused to ratify the additional protocol; there goes the basis for this misinformation piece.
Here is the question: are they interested in peace or not?
by jalili (not verified) on Tue Mar 04, 2008 11:01 AM PSTi don't think US and European allies are interested in peace. Why not do full inspections like the kind that worked in Iraq?
They WANT Iran to push Iran to get nuclear weapons. It's the most logical explanation!
Fred: perhaps if you actually said something worthwhile
by AnonymousIrani (not verified) on Tue Mar 04, 2008 10:57 AM PSTlike what "interpretation" you are talking about.
If there are any factual errors, people may be interested in hearing them. But why didn't you point out any?
TAQIYEH......

An allusion of objectivity might help
by Fred on Tue Mar 04, 2008 10:26 AM PSTPerhaps if the Islamist lobby, NIAC/CASMII foregoes the verbatim parroting of the Islamist Republic’s line which includes bogus information and clumsy reinterpretation of facts, an allusion of objectivity might make it possible for them to be taken seriously by other than the mostly marginalized.
