Tehran protesters burn Obama picture

TEHRAN (Reuters) - Dozens of Iranians burnt posters of U.S. President-elect Barack Obama in Tehran on Tuesday and waved Palestinian flags in support of Gaza, according to a witness and photographs. Iranian demonstrators have often burnt effigies or pictures of U.S. presidents in protests. This appeared to be the first time Obama's picture had been defaced so publicly, a week before his inauguration as president.

Obama isn't the president yet he has not executive power it's still Bush who is in charge and is the lame duck.

This has nothing to do with Obama.

This is all IRI propaganda they know that Obama is going to reach out to the moderates in Iran and that makes the conservatives worried and nervous.

I don't approve of what Israel is doing in Gaza right now but I am defiantly against meaningless and hateful protests like this!

Today I was reading that the Jews tied themselves
to the gates of Israel's LA consulate. The pictures are just disturbing, you cannot see them and not hate the guys who are doing it. Obama by being silent about it, acted just like the pope did in WWII. The burning of the picture is just a protest against silence in the face of genocide.

Hard liners are trying to pre-empt new administration's stance

The hard liners benefit from the continuation of the current freeze and animosity between Iran and US. So, by acting in this way and burning Obama's pictures, they are trying to define the mood  and push the new US administration into reactionary moves right from the start!

What they don't know is that Obama and his advisers are tuned into the REAL Iran and what is best for the future of the relations!
