Simple Truth

As you see the flower

You say "wow" and sit

Near the terracotta pot

And stare at new petals

Like a humming bird.

I tilt the pitcher

And as the water

Washes the dusty leaves

I surrender to this simple truth

That you see beauty everywhere

And become mesmerized in the moment.


I am ashamed of myself.

Everyday I put on

The same old jacket

And carry the watering can

To the patio.

I open the door

Like a sleepy prison guard,

And pour the water like piddle

Not ever noticing

A single budding rose.

حقیقت ساده

گل را که میبینی
وه گویان مینشینی
کنار گلدان سفالی
و چون پرندهای بیتاب
به گلبرگ های نورس آن
خیره میشوی.
من آبپاش را خم میکنم
و همچنان که آب
گرد برگها را میشوید
به این حقیقت ساده تسلیم میشوم
که تو زیبایی را
در هر گوشه و کنار میبینی
و بیدرنگ مجذوب آن میشوی
من از خود شرمندهام
هربار همان کت کهنه را
به تن میکنم
آفتابه را به دست میگیرم
و چون زندانبانی خوابآلود
در ایوان را میگشایم
و آب را چون پیشابی فرو میریزم
بی آنکه هیچگاه
برآمدن غنچهای را بر شاخهای نشان کنم.
