Ruffled Mother-Earth
Rattles unworried islands
Obliterates lives
Vicious ocean waves
Carry more catastrophes
Jolted Japan aches.
Nuclear dust drifts
Around the panicked planet
Powerless we feel.
Pause, ponder, appraise
Did you hug someone today?
We are butterflies.

Butterfly effect
by Orang Gholikhani on Sat Mar 19, 2011 03:32 AM PDTHi Azadeh,
Thanks for your very nice poem.
I suppose you have alraedy heard about Butterfly effect :
A butterfly flapping its wing in Paris can cause a few weeks later a storm over New York. This image describes the butterfly effect as it has been highlighted by the meteorologist Edward Lorenz. He discovered that in weather systems, a tiny change in one component can grow gradually until it causes huge changes after a while. This concept is not only the weather, it has been studied in various fields. When applied to human societies, it would mean that changes in behavior that may seem insignificant initially trigger widespread upheaval.
Scientists analyzing the evolution of our companies believe in the future, social transformation will be increasingly linked to a few individual stocks rather than mass phenomena. This is because two essential conditions for the emergence of the butterfly effect are now satisfied.
These elements are the power to change the world at our fingertips, if we know free us from our inner tyrants . If we succeed, we can find in our everyday life areas where even small changes in our behavior may trigger the butterfly effect.
