argebam, these people recommend sanctions that target specifically the government entities. On the other hand the sanctions that US politicians have in mind target both the government AND the people.

THe issue of nuclear program is western governments top priority. They dont care about the democracy clock when the nuclear "threat" clock is ticking faster. What if having placed crippling sanctions on Iran, IRI doesnt budge? (This has always been the case). What will happen then? They will continue to enrich, and the west will continue to pressure (which will increasingly cripple the democracy movement in Iran) until the inevitable war is waged on Iran.

Sanctions are not for bringing down IRI rather stop the bomb

Batebi whose picture captured the world before Neda is also recommending sanctions against IRI (alongside many other scholars like Abbas Milani, Karim Sajaadpour). Truly protests in Iran also is translated to civil disobedience and a economic damage to IRI, in other words internal economic sanctions. How can groups like NIAC preach to US congress a "Grand Bargain with IRI and lifting the sanctions"? We know that sanctions have not worked because oil prices have been up and sanctions have not been strong enough (due to China and Russia blockade). But things have changed since. It is easier to pressure Ahmadinejaad without a bomb than a nuclear AHmadinejad!!! So if the very young people and victoms of this regime recommend it why is NIAC against it? This is a ligitimate argument and a question not a smear?
