When the struggle for democracy recharged itself in Iran a few weeks ago, after 30 years of repression, many Iranians living abroad flew to their computer screens to get a taste of what was going on inside. The bloody murder of Neda Agha-Soltan, the vast protests on the streets and in the towns, and the assault of the Basij militia upon students were suddenly visible to the rest of the world, and all credit is due to mini amateur phone lenses documenting the crisis. Mobile platforms have already influenced the aftermath of the presidential election and may have forever changed the tide of Iranian politics. But still, the government isn’t standing idly by>>>

Nine Theses

It saddens me and millions of my compatriots within and without Iran to admit that the regime will likely live to see another day. Yet it’s important to resist defeatism at this point. A moment of respite should compel us to reflect on the successes and failures of uprising in order to draw lessons for the future. برای زنم پاسپورت صادر میکنید؟

جلوی گیشه‌ای که یک شیشه‌ی نه فقط ضد گلوله، بلکه ضد تانک بود، قرار گرفت. اونور شیشه یک نفر ایستاده بود و به فاصله کمی از او شخص دیگری پشت میزی نشسته بود. در اولین نگاه متوجه شد که هردوی آنها، اگر خطی عمودی روی صورتشان، از پیشانی تا چانه کشیده شود، بخش سمت راست با چپ صورتشان با هم  قرینه نیستند. در یک کلام، مناسب برای تحقیقات در بخش «مطالعات علمی رشد و چگونگی عدم تکامل انسانی».

"آقا میخواستم برای زنم پاسپورت ایرانی بگیرم. میخوایم با هم بریم ایران."
"مگه زنت پاسپورت ایرانی نداره؟ پناهنده شده و پاسپورتش و پاره کرده؟ یا عضو سازمان... یا گروه... هست؟"
"نخیر قربان، زنم خارجیه."
