"Mullahs are despotic,
They rule with iron hand
Poor afflicted maids in Iran;
Mullahs exude, leak and ooze pestilence!
Ladies! - do not marry Mullahs!
You may come to regret
To be wed to Mullahs,
Mullahs want you to wear
Heavy veils and burquas,
They hide their wives behind stiff shrouds,
But burquas are so very cumbersome,
So keep your distance from Mullahs!
keep mullahs at arm's length,
Those morons, the Mullahs": Blumentopf

"I took some time to figure it out
What all your lies and Imams were about
You lied to my face for years and years
Your Akhond stories filled my ears
I couldn't see, so you forced me to believe
I wasted my life, with your smile and deceit
Now I know better - so I'm a bad man?
You're full of Shiite, death to your clan": Anonymous

The Country Clergy
"I see them working in old rectories
By the sun's light, by candlelight,
Venerable men, their black cloth
A little dusty, a little green
With holy mildew. And yet their skulls,
Ripening over so many prayers,
Toppled into the same grave
With oafs and yokels. They left no books,
Memorial to their lonely thought
In grey parishes; rather they wrote
On men's hearts and in the minds
Of young children sublime words
Too soon forgotten. God in his time
Or out of time will correct this": Ronald Stuart Thomas

"The Preacher: He preached upon <breadth> till it argued him narrow
The broad are too broad to define
And of <truth> until it proclaimed him a liar
The truth never flaunted a sign
Simplicity fled from his counterfeit presence
As gold the pyrites would shun
What confusion would cover the innocent Jesus
To meet so enabled a man": Emily Dickinson

"On the pulpit, preachers, goodness display
Yet in private, they have a different way.
I have a question to ask of the learned in our midst
Why Confession-Priests, their own repentance delay.
Perhaps they don't believe in Judgement Day
They deceive, and to appease God, they pray.
May these New Masters, God, find their stay
And from slaves and mules not turn away.
Church-beggar, go to the abode of the Magi
Drink the water that strength of heart convey.
His endless goodness, many lovers slay
Lovers from the void, rise up and play.
In Love's Tavern, the Angelic array,
Ferment our soul's grape, knead our clay.
Heavenly music at break of the day
As if Angels sing Hafiz's songs, and sway": Hafez Shirazi (English Translation by Shahriar Shahriari)

Depends ... if people think that the poem is nice ... if no one issues a fatwa against it ... if there is any money in copyrighting it ... then yes it is mine.

Otherwise, I was passing the street, and heard someone (perhaps a non-muslim) recite that poem loudly!

این حدیثم چه خوش آمد که سحرگه می‌گفت

بر در میکده‌ ای با دف و نی ترسایی

گر مسلمانی از این است که حافظ دارد

وای اگر از پس امروز بود فردایی

Shazde Asdola Mirza

Here is another one ... hot off the press!

by Shazde Asdola Mirza on

The Mullah in the tower

Shouts the alarm

Of Israelis on the horizon

That may cause him harm

With Shiite in his pants

He prays that it not be:

Enemy his Imam wanted destroyed

Organized the world to destroy him

There's strange noise within the city

Which makes his head go empty

Forcing him to believe

That Israel is there without any pity

So Mullah shouts from his ugly throat

A crow's cry sounding very loud

In the hope that Shiite'd rise in might

And wipe Israel off the map alright

Just then he opens his blind eyes

Seeing the Shiite against his side

Hoping all will say death-to-Israel

He only now hears death-to-Ishmael.

The Ayatollah Song

by anglophile on

Form the brilliant BBC comedy show (1980) called 'Not the Nine o'Clock News', featuring such talented new generation of comedians as Rowan Atkinson and the delightful Pamela Stephenson: The Ayatollah Song (note that this piece was aired barely a year after the Islamic revolution).

Lyrics:

There's a man in Iran

That I can't resist

Much revered, kinda weird

Got this chick in a twist

And even in these World War Three times

I can't help wishing he was mine

Ayatollah Khomeini closer

And I will fall for your charms

Ayatollah don't Khomeini closer

Or I will send out an alarm

(Sent out an alarm)

And rush into your arms

(And rush into his arms)

Well I used to love Saddat

But I've had that scene (She's had it, she's had it)

I've been hit (Pow) by Schmidt (Pow)

And I once went for Beginn (She began with Beginn)

Well I had to discard Giscard

Though he was kind of neat and clean (Unlike Barry Sheene)

So I turn to this strange Islamic guy

Oh, is that the glint of love in his eye? (Love in his eye)

Yes, Ayatollah Khomeini closer

And I will lose my cool (Lose my cool)

Ayatollah don't Khomeini closer

Or I get a hold of you (Da-ba-da-ba-do)

Though you are a stubborn as a mule (Stubborn as a mule)

I want you to be my man (Be my man)

I may be in England (In England)

But my heart's a hostage in Iran

Doo wap, shoo-be-do-wap

Shoo-be-do-be-do-be-do-be-do

In Iran

Doo wap, shoo-be-do-wap

Shoo-be-do-be-do-be-do-be-do

Sha la la la, la la la la...

Oh Ayatollah

I want you so much

You dear old goat

Let me get on your goat

Oh Ayatollah

But you're beautiful

Are there any more at home like you

Oh Ayatollah I love you

Iman, I'm making eyes at you

Oh Ayatollah, it's too much

Ayatollah
