It presents itself in bits and pieces
It can look easy like A and B
or make me nostalgic for Caspian sea
Sometimes one does not have access
when and where it's needed
But try we must to reach its buttom
Uncover its mask or find where it is hidden
Even though it does not smile or shed tears
it does make us emotional, be it happy or sad
Sometimes it is in back of our minds
Other times, it stares at us
we can forget it or vaguely remember
But we honor it every second
simply by giving nothing or just one thing
In return it does bring magic for us.

Prometheus is still in theaters. It's worth checking out on the big screen.
Thanks Fesenjoon and Latina
by Anahid Hojjati on Tue Jun 26, 2012 02:03 PM PDTDear Fesenjoon: Out of the movies that you named, I have only watched Dune; back in early 1980s when it came out. All I remember from the movie is that as you noted, it was bizarre. I would have to watch it again. Thanks for all the information about the sci fi movies.
Dear Latina, thanks for your comment. I am glad you liked it.

Very interesting view. How unique.
I am a star trek watcher, so I like this very much. :o)
Best,

OK then...
by Fesenjoon2 on Tue Jun 26, 2012 02:24 PM PDTWell then let me impose upon you my top 3 recommendations of Scifi movies of all time, which I definitely think you should check out, if you have a liking for Scifi cinematic works:
1. Blade Runner (1982)
Like many scientists, this film tops my list of most favorite sci-fi film of all time:
//www.guardian.co.uk/science/2004/aug/26/sciencenews.sciencefictionspecial
2. 2001 Space Odyssey (1969)
It's not just HAL 9000. The film is very philosophically oriented. How many films are there that actually influence your outlook on life? This is one of them (for me at least).
3. Dune (1983)
This film is so freakishly similar in ideology to Shia thought and mythology that it always strikes me as refreshingly bizarre. It's one of those scifi films thats wayyyyy out there on the fringes of sanity. Either you love the film, or you hate it. I ended up buying the original film and the 2 mini-series. The Mahdi, Jihad, Chadori women with telepathic powers. Are you kidding me? This movie has always been fun to watch.
Honorary Diploma: Gattaca (1998)
Very well made. I always recommend watching it to my students (!)
There are a few others, but these are the very top. I hope you enjoy them, like I did.
thanks Fesenjoon2 for your comment
by Anahid Hojjati on Tue Jun 26, 2012 12:57 PM PDTI have not watched Hal9000 in action, but I take your word for it.
This guy; Hal Varian, seems to be an intresting person who knows a lot about data.
//www.ischool.berkeley.edu/people/faculty/halvarian
Data was cool
by Fesenjoon2 on Tue Jun 26, 2012 12:41 PM PDTbut I think (i.e. IMO) Hal 9000 was something else. The scene were he gets disconnected always haunts me.
