Let's talk about "Molana"

During past several days, in two different blogs on IC, there have been discussions about Molana, aabout his place of birth, and one of his poems. This made me realize how little I know of this great Persian poet. Sure, when we went to school in Iran, we learned about him but I have forgotten so much of it. Unlike some Iranians in Diaspora, i don't go to any weekly Molana class. And I have to confess that I have not read his poetry after high school. I know this is all bad for someone who writes poetry. But then I bet many of IC readers are like me. On the other hand, among our contributors, several have to know more than me about Molana. I hope.  Does anyone want to discuss him? Sorry if the topic has been recently covered on IC,  but if interested, please comment about Molana, his poetry, and write about what you have learned from reading his poems.

yolanda, what a funny comment. Yes, Hila recites very well

by Anahid Hojjati on

Dear yolanda, it was hilarious where you wrote:"maybe people can start to recite their own poems (without showing their
faces) and post it in their blogs......so we can hear their voice, or
something like that "

Regrding Hila, I have not watched your link yet but I have seen few of her videos as she recites her poetry and I like that too. She does a very good job. I think in Iran, poets value being able to recite their poetry well, and they are correct. Thanks for all the links.

Hi Anahid,

LOL! You cracked me up........I know Red Wine plays piano........I don't know other people's music talent or singing talent......since we have so many poets and poetesses........maybe people can start to recite their own poems (without showing their faces) and post it in their blogs......so we can hear their voice, or something like that........I really like the way Hila recites her poetry....the lady is really expressive!

//www.krsi.net/news/detail.asp?NewsID=6547

I watched a lot of Rumi's poetry videos on you-tube.........but nobody does recitation better than Hila.

Please take care!

thanks yolanda for your comment and also for link

by Anahid Hojjati on

yolanda, you are correct. The guy looks like Jesus. My favorite instruments are percussion too. I was in this music store in Berkeley couple weeks ago and I asked about price of their percussion instruments. But, thank god that i did not buy any. We need Iranian.com to debut their new format and then we can get more into music. I think we should have a band formed from IC's writers/commentators. Then at the end of an IC's concert, when a musician has connected with audience and they are not leaving, this band of writers can come up and play to make sure audience will leave quickly.

Thank you, Anahid, for the Shams ensemble's link.....I listened it last nite, I like it very much, and I've saved the video under my you-tube account.....my favorite member is the guy sitting next to the lead female singer.....he looks like Jesus....:O)........his name is Sohrab Pournazeri........I watched his solo video in Nazy's blog last year:

//www.youtube.com/watch?v=P4e850CS6KQ

he can sing and play.......Shams ensemble came to LA last year....but they sold out the tickets....so I missed their show......I like all the Persian instruments they play......especially the percussion instruments which have so many interesting shapes...... very cool!

Thank you for sharing!

A lot of songs have been written with Rumi's poems, but I have not seen one commemorative stamp in honor of Rumi issued by Iran...maybe they were sold out?.....Rumi was a Sufi.......I know that IRI persecutes Sufis in Iran.....there are many videos on you-tube showing sufis being beat up in Iran! It is very sad!

I may not switch to Apple

by Anahid Hojjati on

Some things sound better from far. Migrating to Apple is one of those ideas that might sound good but not for me.  I am so used to Windows. Also, I don't want to buy new computer.

Anonymouse

Verizon usually has better coverage and is more reliable.

by Anonymouse on

Besides if you have AT&T I'd go with iPhone 4 and figure out all its kinks and once you become an iPhone guru you can add the iPad and other Apple stuff.

I think most of us are used to Windows and have a hard time migrating to Apple but most of those who put the effort and move to Apple are usually better off.  It's more expensive and may be hard to get used to but better technology.  Although once again my comment is only from a "convetional" stand point!

Anonymouse jan, I have had AT&T wireless for many years.

I will think about this. Two bad BlackBerry in a row. I never had a problem like this.

Dear Hoshang and Anonymouse jan, link and jink ?

by Anahid Hojjati on

Hoshang jan, I wanted to thank you for all the links you provided. I will check them later.

Dear Anonymouse, yesterday, I recommended BlackBerry to you. Last night, as I was having dinner with my daughter and her friend, I tried to answer yolanda's comment. My BlackBerry "jen" gerefte bood. It kept giving me

pppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppp

I was not able to write my comment using my BlackBerry. After few turn off and turn on, it still has problems and I have to make a trip to AT & T store and possibly to customer service center. I can still receive calls and some times I can make calls, depending on how bad the problem is or is not, I can even access sites but it is not working well. So much for me recommending BlackBerry.

Souri jan, thanks for correction, I had no idea

by Anahid Hojjati on

Souri aziz, all this time I thought ahosseini is Ebi, thanks for this correction. By the way,  I am behind comments on "yavegooyee" blog but more than an hour ago, I read a comment from you, what a nice one, I think you might have blogged it or at least part of it. Thanks for that comment also.

Few days ago, before it was corrected, I also saw on the blog what you are mentioning about Maryam Hojjat's comment. It was funny.

Just a funny reminder

Anahid jon

Sorry for my intrusion, but there's something funny to mention here. Hope you don't mind if I say, Mr ahosseini is not Ebi! He is Mr ali Hosseini who is a poet. The funniest thing is that once in one of his blogs, Ms Maryam Hojatt has commented. Then Mr Hosseini too, did the mistake to thanked Ms Anahid Hojatti, while you were not even there :)

Just a reminder..........

Hi Anahid,

This is a touchy subject...I read different things about their relationship....I don't know what to believe.......but since I like Rumi a lot.....I tend to block out the negative stuff I read....anyway, Rumi's poetry is timeless! His message is edifying! After I joined IC, I got drawn to Rumi! I have participated a lot of Rumi blogs on IC and watched a lot of Rumi's videos on you-tube........it was fun!

Dear yolanda, thanks for sharing Molana' beautiful poetry and for the great video with words of wisdom. Yes, I want to read more about Molana and the relationhip between him and Shams. Do you know some thing about this?

Here is one of my favorite Rumi's poems:

******************

When I saw you

I was afraid to meet you...

When I met you,

I was afraid to kiss you...

When I kissed you,

I was afraid to love you...

Now that I love you,

I'm afraid to lose you.”

*******************

I am not sure who the "you" is in the poem......Was this poem written to Shams or a female person?......I have no clue.....but I like this poem very much!

Hi Anahid

by ahosseini on

Hi Anahid

Go to www.parseek.om, (little persian search engine) use soft KB "Persian KB - safhaie kelid farsi) then type "molana" and put a tick in "Persian sites only" check box, you will then see a big list of sites including Persian Wikipedea. I once came across a very good multi media one that reads his poems.
