Some incidents precipitate history for good or for bad. Often because of their tragic nature good hearted people fail to see the forest behind the tree. Call me a Zionist Apologist if you will but In the end of the Day do as Your Conscience dictates you, Mine is Clear ...
The Assassination of the Archduke Ferdinand of Austria in Sarajevo in 1914, or the burning of the Reichtag in 1933 or as far as we Iranians are concerned the burning of the Cinema Rex in 1978 have all been turning points in the history of nations and at times of that of the world...
In the case of this recent incident on the Mavi Marmara in international waters highlighted by some contributors in this site along with many people around the world who have reacted even before knowing the exact details or circumstances. Beyond the incident tragic in itself that has led to the unfortunate and useless death of 9 people ( god bless their souls whoever they are and peace to their grieving families) what we are actually seeing is a reshaping of the Middle East's political landscape and a redistributions of political and geo strategic cards to other means than merely seeing Palestinians finally having their own land ... ( No need to explain the Isolation of PLO's Official Representation FATAH led by Secularist Mahmoud Abbas in favor of the HAMAS whose Ideology is directly drafted from the Protocol of the Elders of ZION, a pamphlet which directly inspired the Nazi Ideologues of another age whose legacy needs to remain in the dustbins of history rather than be flattered by opening the Pandora Box of Intolerance as Iran's President Ahmadinejad has been doing with his dispecable Holocaust Conference - an extra provocation PRIOR to the Tragic incident in Gaza which jeapordized both our Nuclear Rights to peaceful development but also revived Neo Nazi Holocaust Revisionist Theories ( HOLOCAUST A MYTH: Norman Filkenstein Vehemently Opposes Neo Nazi Revisionist Socialite Michelle Renouf on Iranian SAHAR TV ) which only encouraged Israel's Paranoia against Iran's so called peaceful intentions ( If the IRI had peaceful intentions then why revive Old Scars in a conflict of NO direct concern to Iranians or Iran for that matter ? Thus jeapordizing our own security and friendly relations at the time with our European Allies- thanks notably to Former Reformist President Khatami's ouvertures )

In the end of the day it is about POWER PLAY, Not Human Rights or Democracy. Turkey's ruling AK party and Tear Jerking President Abdullah Gül and Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan are truly playing it smart and turning into a major political power and King Maker in the region. Something it has been ambitioning since the fall of the Ottoman Empire. Iran is merely a tool to achieve that given target which will flatter it's people's nationalistic egos while imposing it's conditions on a European Continent it wishes to be part but which it may well snub on the long run because of Europe's hesitation to juxtapose a country with a largely Muslim identity to it's Christian heritage, not to say enrage it's Greek partners considered as the Founding Civilization and ultimate Focal Point of the European Identity at large ...
I am not certain that the beneficiaries of Turkey's Power Play will be the Secularist Turks and legitimate inheriters of Kemal Attaturk's Political legacy. It should be reminded that Ahmadinejad's last visit to Turkey was marked by his refusal to pay his respect's to Turkey's Founding Father Kemal Ataturk's Tomb in Ankara, which prompted the Turkish officials to greet the Iranian President in Istanbul instead. ( Read Article: Turkey plays down Ahmadinejad snub to state's founding father by Robert Tait - Guardian)
This is a major victory for Erdogan and Co as the NEO guardians the Ottoman ambitions in the region. One has to salute their brilliant diplomatic tactic. No sooner than this morning Turkey's foreign minister Ahmet Davutoglu compared the Mavi Marmara Incident to America's 9/11 by drawing parallels between Israeli's "terrorist" actions to Al Queda's suicide mission.
As far as we Iranians are concerned this is not playing in our favor regardless of what one may think of Israel's foolish behavior in general and lack of vision in securing it's long term interests and peaceful relations with it's immediate neighbours.
What is Certain is that President so-called "Elect" Ahmadinejad has found a strong ally in it's partnership with it's NEO Ottoman neighbours which will do everything in their power to secure Iran's nuclear ambitions and political stability at the expense of the already Fragile Green Movement in Iran.
So THINK TWICE before Signing a Pro Palestinian or Pro Turkish Petition or demonstrating naively hand in hand with fellow Blind Peace Protestors in London, Paris or San Francisco against BAD BAD Israel ...
For often a Tree planted even with Good Hearted intentions may often hide a Forest of Ignorance ... particularly in a Desert like the Middle East where drinking from an Arab's Bedouin's Well may well prove fatal, including for the Arab himself:
In the end of the Day do as Your Conscience dictates you, Mine is Clear ...
My humble Opinion,

So It's Never late even for a Pretty Bird like you to do her Homework from time to time ... Even at the expense of your Personal Liesure ... If your parents had done their homework back in 1979 when you were 4 ( of age or Mental Age ? ) , It probably would have saved us all a One way Ticket to permenant exile ...
No Hard Feelings ...

Excellent, one of your best
by Mehrban on Wed Jun 02, 2010 07:09 AM PDTTurkey has been the beneficiary of Iran's demise for the last 30 years. Their progress has been mind boggling. However, as their economy is waning at the present, I understand that their gold and foreign exchange reserves have stayed quite high. Many attribute this in part to IRR hiding its loot in the Turkish banks.
In addition, as you have mentioned, Gul's and Erdogan's Islamist tendencies is quite contrary to the secular foundations of modern Turkey and the aspirations of the Iranians at the present.
The political point well taken. However, this incident is quite awful.
