SHAHYAD vs BIG BEN: Cyrus Cylinder 'to help Iran-US relations' say’s British Museum

One of the British Museum's most ancient treasures is to be loaned to the United States for the first time.
What a bitter Irony given that the Islamic Republic born from the Revolution which ousted the Monarchy should benefit from Iran’s 25 Century Old Royal Heritage in a bid to normalize relationships with another Democratic Administration which abandoned America’s staunchest ally during the Cold War. The Question now is whether Iranians at large ( including in the ever gullible and namaknashnas Diaspora) will see any credibility in the current Regime (and not merely it’s government) to be their spokesperson in an eventual normalization of American Iran Relations ? (Source: persianrealm.com)

Cyrus Cylinder: Ancient treasure 'to help Iran-US relations':

One of the British Museum's most ancient treasures is to be loaned to the United States for the first time.
The Cyrus Cylinder, which is more than 2,500 years old, is regarded by historians as the world's first declaration of human rights.

It has recently been on loan to the National Museum of Iran and it is hoped that the new loan to the USA will promote cultural understanding between Iran and America.

Will Gompertz reports.

The British Museum had lent the Cylinder to Iran for 4 Months in 2012:

Iranian jets 'fired on US drone'

Iranian jets 'fired on US drone' (bbc)

Iranian fighter jets shot at an unmanned US drone during a routine surveillance mission over the Gulf, Pentagon officials have said.

The defence department said the drone was not damaged in the incident, which it said took place in international air space on 1 November.

Pentagon spokesman George Little said the president had been informed.

Last year, the Iranians captured a US drone they said had invaded their air space and refused to give it back.

The Americans said the drone had malfunctioned.

After the latest incident, Mr Little said the US would continue surveillance in the area.

"The United States has communicated to the Iranians that we will continue to conduct surveillance flights over international waters over the Arabian Gulf," he said.

There is not such thing as a "Secular Monarchy" ...

THE STORY OF GOD: Robert Winston explains Zoroastrianism

Even the Pre Islamic Persian Monarchs had the image of a Fravahar above their Throne as a reminder of the fact that they were chosen and protected by God:

darius_seal.jpg

The entire ceremony of the Coronation is placed under the Symbolism of Religion in that a King is anointed.

European Monarchs including the British Monarchy actuallly copied and pasted much of these Pagan Persian symbolisms ( including the symbol of the Lion) into their judeo Christian traditions :

HISTORY OF IDEAS: Georges Dumezil, on Indo European languages and Myths (Apostrophes,1984)

The same is true for all Monarchies including the most democratic where the Coronation symbolizes a sacred ceremonial ritual aimed at linking the Monarch to it's predecessors whilst pledging to the notion of historical continuity regardless of which dynasty rules the country.

That's where the Velayateh Fagih and this Islamic Republic has broken away from that tradition in that it has broken the sacred bond which the concept of royal continuity links all Royal dynastys to one another in a sign of mutual respect even if one dynasty may have toppled the other ...

The Islamic Republic however committed a crime of Lese Majesty by replacing the entire institution with a brand of it's own invention and inventing a Zahak like absolute Kingdom of it's own interpretation which makes it illegitimate from a purely nationalistic point of view. That in itself makes any claim they have to the Cyrus Cylinder illegitimate given what this item represents to Iran and Iranians in general so to see the British present it as an opportunity to bridge differences between Iranians and americans only illustrates their revisionist attempts to rewrite Persian History whilst dismissing what that the very foundation of the Islamic Republic is at odds with Cyrus' legacy and Iran's Royal heritage in general.

Hence why the Pahlavis depite having been toppled by a clueless population and generation remains historically a legitimate dynasty unlike the current theocracy.

But now if you are talking about a Monarchy which has implemented a democratic system of checks and balances as one which "Reza Shah Dovom" ( as opposed to "Sharhvand" Reza Pahlavi) may have in mind:

Crown Prince Reza on importance of "Checks and Balances" of future regime

That is an entirely different debate ... I am willing to have with you but not today ...

All I can say is that There is something called a Constitutional Monarchy ...

ROYAL FORUM: Explaining the Concept of a Constitutional Monarchy to a Staunch Republican

and even then they are not entirely egalitarian nor democratic :

Cyrus Amir-Mokri: How Truly Democratic Was the 1906 Constitution In The First Place?

It is at best benevolently democratic and that was only possible in history after a Royal Restoration as was the case in Spain or even England or Holland ( a Republic prior to becoming a Monarchy) or Combodia in recent years.

Again I'm not going to define the Monarchy for what it isn't ...

For ultimately Monarchies are at best only benevolently democratic, they are neither egalitarian even if they can have social democrat and even leftwing governments running them but Monarchs live in Palaces and have Royal Prerogatives ( such as being the head of the Armed Forces) ...

To claim otherwise is to try and reinvent or redefine the Monarchy for what it is not nor ever claimed to be: a Republic

Now if "Shahrvand" Reza Pahlavi wants to toy with the concept and shape it to his own image fine ...

JOMHURYATKHAH VS JOMHURYKHAH: UK & US Bill of Rights - Similarities & differences

I wish him luck and support him in his endeavors ... But Only if he succeeds ...otherwise I'm afraid he got his priorities wrong in wanting to reform the monarchy even before restoring it ...

Up to him to make sure he has the right dices rolling for him and whatever destiny he sees for himself ... but I'm afraid in the meantime the dices are rolling for Trita Parsi more than they are rolling for him ..

NIAC C-SPAN: Zbigniew Brzezinski interviewed by Trita Parsi on U.S. – Iran Relations

But then I guess "Shahrvand Reza Pahlavi" suffers from the same schizophrenic confusion most Iranian expats have been suffering from for the past 3 decades ...

It's called SELF DENIAL:

Get over it!

Also, Sarkozy lost. Get over that one too. That's how democracy works.

Cyrus Cylinder belongs to the British Museum. It loaned it to the Iranian Museums and now it is loaning it to 5 US museums, including the ones in LA and SF so that thousands of Iranian-Americans can see it.

This has nothing to do with politics. I know that you are anxiously waiting for a misstep by Obama. It won't happen.

When in doubt, always go with the smartest guy in the room!

Like Oil and Water

by Doorbin on

Fret not, Darius.

I.R. and the USA (and all those who value human freedom) are like oil and water. They can never be mixed. Even if thery're forced into a mingling, it'll be temporary. They'll separate as soon as the shaking stops.

Obama and his clueless Iran advisors can experiment with this. But they'll have egg on their faces (again) in not too long.

So let them shake.
