by Ashoori-1 on Fri Sep 28, 2012 07:23 PM PDTThere are approximately 33 countries that use nuclear power for their energy needs. Some of those countries have developed nuclear power for military purposes (Israel is one of them). There is no law that would prevent Iran from developing nuclear power for its energy needs. Unlike Israel, Iran has signed Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty. Further, unlike Israel, up until Iran was bullied and sanctioned, it allowed inspectors to visit its nuclear facilities.Bibi has the Bunker Busting Bombs that the US gave him. The only reason he has not attacked Iran is because he has some opposition at home and he does not have the green light from the USA. Sanctions against Iran are not justified and do not work. They make the poor poorer and the rich richer. They hurt the small guy. Sanctions against Iran are clear example of bullying. Further, they are intended to make the US oil companies richer by creating public hysteria so that they can jack up the prices at the pumps.
I will drink to that one!

Highly unlikely.
The same "non-violent" economic sanctions in Iraq led to death of 500,000 Iraqi infants and kids.
There are many, many political forces in Iran that have opposed Islamic Republic of Hell, and all its factions, for 32 years, and at the same time oppose sanctions and war.
Nice graphics, as usual. Cheers

The Regime is selling oil to China and India and getting their currency and their products in return. Since when made- in-China Walmart products are not good for the Iranians.
But if you are saying that the US and her allies should be forced to buy Iranian oil and then give the Regime dollars and let them buy any western product that they wish, I would say you are dreaming.
Have a great weekend and may your dreams come true, all of them, even the triumphant return of Khatami!
Check your real motives to keep the status quo
by vildemose on Fri Sep 28, 2012 12:28 PM PDTThe economic well-being of Iranian people is not his responsibility. It is the Regime’s responsibility. Now if they can’t do it, then move out of the way and let someone else do it.
That is what most people don't get. Obama does not care about Iran and he is not supposed to.

Apples and oranges!
by Esfand Aashena on Fri Sep 28, 2012 12:00 PM PDTEvery American President's responsibilities is to the Americans. So what? When W went gong ho in Iraq and created all the disaster, wasn't he thinking for American's benefit? Obama is doing the same except he is NOT itching for war. They do the best they can, doesn't mean they're always in the right.
A divorce is between a couple who started with love. In an abusive relationship the abused finally breaks free, usually on her own after all else fails, including outside help.
This reference that regime is occupying Iran and holding everyone hostage and Obama is looking for Amerian interests while sanctioning the hostages who is NOT holding American hostages is mix and matching everything.
At the end of the day, this is all politics and neither Obama nor Netanyahu have the means to start a war. There is no redline since all redlines have already been passed.
I do not see any "benefit" of starving Iranian people with more and more sanctions. I do not see the "benefit" of hardships on Iranians caused by more and more sanctions.
When and if war breaks out I will not see the "benefit" of such a war because there is none. However, many Iranians will either cheer or look away and just hope the war ends quickly, which it won't.
Y'all have a great weekend and may all your wishes come true, except war wishes!

Obama's Responsibilities
by Faramarz on Fri Sep 28, 2012 11:46 AM PDTObama’s first and foremost responsibility is to Americans, their safety and well-being. The flow of oil in the Persian Gulf falls under this category. His next responsibility is to its friends and allies, including all those Persian Gulf and Middle Eastern states that are threatened by the Regime.
The economic well-being of Iranian people is not his responsibility. It is the Regime’s responsibility. Now if they can’t do it, then move out of the way and let someone else do it.
The relationship between the Regime and the Iranian people as Vildemose put it, is an abusive relationship with all its dependencies. I also see it as a classic hostage situation.
You believe that in a hostage situation you keep meeting the demands of the hostage takers because you feel bad for the hostages. I believe that you let enough food and electricity in to keep the hostages in reasonable shape, you keep talking to the hostage takers to get your snipers and SWAT team in place, and finally when the hostage takers are tired and hungry and unbalanced you take them out.

Drawing a line in sand between sanctions and war.
by Esfand Aashena on Fri Sep 28, 2012 11:08 AM PDTThe current sanctions were put in place and ratched up by rhetoric of war and the "redline" that you see Netanyahu talks about and Obama talks in different way. But all these lines are just lines in the sand.
Neither Israel nor US has any way of knowing of when or where Iran has reached or better yet made a nuclear bomb. No one knew Pakistan had a bomb until one was detonated inside a mountain! Pakistan and India were sanctioned by Clinton but they were exonorated later and sanctins lifted.
Sometimes I think one day Iran will buy a nuclear suitcase from one of these old Soviet states or even a Pakistani or Indian dealer and turn it over to UN and US to examine! Here look I bought this on a bazzar in Asia you still worried about my nukes?!
I believe the reason people rose up and protested in 2009 was because they saw the differences between Khatami's era and Ahmadi's era and how low Iran had sank. They wanted to get rid of Ahmadi like Nasim said, though we know how it turned out.
Fraud and mismanagement was rampant in Khatami's era as well and will probably be there for as long as we live in our lifetime. It was there during the Shah and won't go away.
But sanctions are hitting the people and that is a joke on i.com and many other places. So what if Iranians have a hard time? Who gives a sh!t?

by Faramarz on Fri Sep 28, 2012 10:50 AM PDTHer comments were anti-war, but not necessarily anti-sanctions.
Given the big hole that the Regime has dug for itself, the options in front of Obama and the west are either war or diplomacy with sanctions. I don't believe that anybody is going to lift the sanctions and feed the beast so that the bread crumbs would trickle down to the Iranian people.
What the fraud and the mismanagement cases and the inflation, the shortages of chicken and flour show is that the Regime is fully incapable of running the economy. That's not the sanctions' fault.
No Double Down on Trickle Down!
Yes indeed Nasim said what many on i.com don't say!
by Esfand Aashena on Fri Sep 28, 2012 10:31 AM PDTFaramarz jaan glad you caught that point. She wants Iranians to be left alone so that they can fight the Government themselves. The drums of war and more and more sanctions are not helping.
I know many, including yourself, do not agree with this but so be it. When I came back from my recent trip from Iran I became anti-sanctions. Because I believe when people have less and less and inflation is killing them they're going to tighten their belts and close ranks.
When they can prosper and have more opportunities and better economic situations they'll be protesting the unjust and unfair policies and ultimately spark something, like they did in 2009. Of course better economic stability is relative in Iran, but still.
Sanctions followed by war won't work. We can look the other way while the dirty deeds are being done to Iran, but it won't work.
