Jahanshah Javid has been a pioneering journalist ever since he created
Iranian.com. This site has had one unique feature that, thus far, has
remained unrivalled to the chagrin of all other competing and copycat sites
that tried, and failed, to emulate his example: unmitigated irreverence.
The motto of "Nothing is Sacred" has been tested to it limits and although.
at times, was bruised and battered, it emerged from each test with
resounding success. Tens of thousands of Iranians and non-Iranians have
visited Iranian.com everyday, not to read and view a collection of
carefully selected and sanitized opinion pieces, pictures and videos, but
to enjoy a freedom that they had never experienced before. The freedom to see and the freedom to say. The freedom of which they were denied on all other sites. The freedom to fire a letter of protest, sometimes in
unsavoury terms, to the author of an article whose opinion would conflict
with those of the letter writers. The freedom to insult and be insulted.
To this end alone, Jahanshah Javid deserves the highest accolade one could be bestowed upon for his tolerance and a competent management of a most popular journal.
Now, with the launch of the new structure of Iranian.com, earlier this
year, Javid scored another first, fitting to the pioneering spirit that has
driven him since the creation of his web journal. The new structure of
Iranian.com, has pushed the ceiling of journalistic freedom to such heights
that some find it uneasy to come to terms with. But who are these people?
Are they not those who find their safe and established status no longer
unassailable? Are they not those who are only accustomed to a sanitized
debate with no heckling, no shouting and no yelling? I tell you who they
are. They are titans of toy towns whose heroics are measured against the
toys they come against. They are paper tigers who are afraid of being
attacked by scissors. They prefer a comfortable and clean debate with no
ugly remarks or suggestions. Let me be more specific. They purport to fight
for equality of rights in a civil society but readily forfeit that right
when a train guard orders them to move to free up space for a white woman. They hide behind their girl friends and shout at the guard for treating them unequally. Compare them with Rosa Parks. She did not move nor did she hide behind any one. She did not write a pompous protest article a few days later to object to her treatment. She created history. All our paper heroes did was histrionics. This is why we need real people to write and comment on Iranian.com. All the swearing and the abusive commentary that are not written under each article or blog are part of our true Iranian identity. Iranian.com belongs to Iranians all over the world. It is not a private property of Iranian-Americans or Iranian-Europeans or whoever. What you see under each article is the true picture of our compatriots from Iran to Australia. Those who live in the ivory towers of the sanitized and censured journalism should consider climbing down from their safe seats and join the real people. The people who may not have a name but have a voice. Let their voice be heard.

To those who opposed me
by Haji Firooz on Sat Nov 03, 2007 05:30 AM PDTTo those who opposed me ...This blog was written in support of the exisiting structure of Iranian.com and in respone to those who suggest it is getting out of hand. After Roozbeh Shirazi, Bruce Bahmani and Ben Madadi, wrote in objection to the wild and vulgar language used in an increasing number of comments, I realized that a unique and great opportunity is being lost on such writers and is not appreciated. Jahanshah Javid has given us the greatest opportunity in the history of Iranian Freedom of Speech and there are those who see this as a threat to their otherwise placid style of writing. To those who didn't get my mention of Rosa Parks, I suggest to read Roozbeh Shirazi's insipid opinion piece as a protest to his treatment by the train guard. (//iranian.com/RoozbehShirazi/2007/February/Train/index.html) It is not surprising that Shirazi and his likes find the less than complementary remarks made in the comments most upsetting. But what we need in our fledgeling democracy is more of Rosa and less of Roozbeh. We also nee less of those who can't tolerate the heat like Bahamani or Madadi. The vulgarity and obscenity of the commentaries is their identity. They are Iranians too and have right to voice their opinion. Jahanshah Javid has given us this right. I am sure that with the passage of time we will see more temperate comments and less vulgar remarks. But this is a transition period and we must pass through it whether the above mentioned critic like it or not.
By the way, I don't hyperlink Iranian.com, it becomes hyperlink automatically by the system. And one last thing: To those who supported me: A BIG HEARTY THANKSJJ

We Iranians are the quintessential BLACK Character!
Salute for trying to be ShojaA!
Reflected or deflected, even a single ray of light will do!
You are ShojaA in my book! Jovid-MON!
Now, I will say the truth!
//video.google.com/videoplay?docid=8905191678...
///////////////////////////////////////////////////////
I see a red door and I want it painted black
No colors anymore I want them to turn black
I see the girls walk by dressed in their summer clothes
I have to turn my head until my darkness goes
I see a line of cars and theyre all painted black
With flowers and my love both never to come back
I see people turn their heads and quickly look away
Like a new born baby it just happens evry day
I look inside myself and see my heart is black
I see my red door and it has been painted black
Maybe then Ill fade away and not have to face the facts
Its not easy facin up when your whole world is black
No more will my green sea go turn a deeper blue
I could not foresee this thing happening to you
If I look hard enough into the settin sun
My love will laugh with me before the mornin comes
I see a red door and I want it painted black
No colors anymore I want them to turn black
I see the girls walk by dressed in their summer clothes
I have to turn my head until my darkness goes
Hmm, hmm, hmm,...
I wanna see it painted, painted black
Black as night, black as coal
I wanna see the sun blotted out from the sky
I wanna see it painted, painted, painted, painted black
Yeah!
Well said Haji Firooz!

Nazanin: Actually..................
by Sasha on Thu Nov 01, 2007 09:59 PM PDTActually I have only been visiting iranian.com since the Spring of this year so you could say, I have missed out on a lot of action and history on the website and JJ.
Well, I guess they will have to add me to that list because I have friends who live in Iran and I do not want the US to go to war with Iran. As a matter of fact I have already been called unAmerican and unpatriotic by one of my family members. Ouch! It really hurts when it comes from your own flesh and blood but none the less, I will not change my view. They can call me all they want because it can not possibly hurt as much as from your own flesh and blood.

by Nazanin (not verified) on Thu Nov 01, 2007 09:39 PM PDTWhere have you been sister? Anyone (eskimo, iranian, american, indian) here who opposes war with Iran, sanctions against Iran, or Islamophobia = an Iranian agent according to those people. It's sad, but what can you do about it? Who cares? Look at JJ, years later, people are coming here because it's free. I think Donald Rumsfeld was right afterall. Freedom isn't free. You have to take the nonsense.
For real..............
by Sasha on Thu Nov 01, 2007 09:29 PM PDTSome people actually called him an agent of the Iranian government and called for boycotting of iranian.com. How absurd of them. JJ certainly has weathered some storms. The fact of the matter is that JJ is a business man/journalist/editor. It is as simple as that. While we are debating, he is keeping it all together so that iranian.com can continue to exist...............so that we can continue to write and debate.

JJ Wins
by Nazanin (not verified) on Thu Nov 01, 2007 09:19 PM PDTWhat I like about JJ is that he leads by example. He doesn't preach. People called him an agent of the Iranian government and they created sites dedicated to calling him names, asking people to boycott the site and the advertisers (ha!). But they are the losers and the popularity of this site proves that - so does the fact that he didn't quit iranian.com (i can't imagine the headaches he's had). Further proof is the monarchists (same group who made those nasty sites) who are welcome here to promote themselves.
JJ knows what he is doing in order to make a good site and succeed, regardless of whether people agree his method. I like that. I hope after this weekend there won't be any more free speech blogs. The new format of this site didn't invent Iranian free speech issues. That problem existed before JJ was even born.
In the long run......
by NJ (not verified) on Thu Nov 01, 2007 09:04 PM PDTI think in the long run this site will succeed in teaching a certain group of people how to express opinions and have a debate, a little better!
Not that it is any particular person's intention to teach anyone any particular subject, or else how to be civilized.
But if overall people stop responding to the vulgarities and accusations, after a while those who use those methods of self
expression will see it futile to continue writing, if no one is paying any "ATTENTION" to them (and to the new ones who will definitely pop up, 'cause that's what
they really want!
As for JJ, there is no doubt that he has created and maintained a terrific format under Freedom of Expression.
Something that I believe the people
of Iran have never had in these past many years!(not only the last 30)
Untill such time, people need to be patient!
a quick question
by esfenaj mirza (not verified) on Thu Nov 01, 2007 08:27 PM PDTwhy on earth on this article all the references to iranian.com is hyperlinked? reader/visitor is already on this site when reading the article.
No one.................
by Sasha on Thu Nov 01, 2007 07:44 PM PDTNo one is questioning JJ's great journalistic pioneering efforts. The majority agrees that for the most part iranian.com is a great place to be. We have the opportunity to write articles or blogs and express what we think and feel. No where have I had so much freedom of expression in all my life. Many also agree that JJ is not so much in it for the money. Can you imagine what it takes to listen to so many voices all demanding different things from him on a daily basis. I certainly could not do it. They would get on my last nerve. Yet, still here he is and here we are............ some writers are simply tired of their families being dragged into the cursing simply for speaking their mind.
