Missing Person Report
by MiNeum71 on Fri Jun 19, 2009 07:07 AM PDTI wonder where those iranan.com craps are hiding, the Parhams, hamsade ghadimis, Kaveh Nouraees, ramintorks, HATEIRIs, Yanas, LalehGillanis, eroonmans, Farah Rustas, Masoud Kazemzadehs ... who always claimed: Don't vote, only silly people and IRI-apologists vote, nothing will change, this only helps legitimating the IRI ...
I wrote very often: Civil disobedience is an active action, actually a subtle offence, with which you want to demontrate displeasure, for example when you go on strike. But sitting at home demonstrates only personified laziness and cowardice.
Where are you? You thinks you can work against the people whilst people are dying, and then you come and pick up free gift, you lazy gals and guys? You don't deserve Iran.
There are only two things I expect you to you:
1) Supporting the young and brave Iranians fighting in Tehran, Shiraz, Isfahan, Mashad, Ahvaz, Tabriz ...
2) Apologising for insulting the intelligence of the voters.
You lost this battle of wit.

Reza Pahlavi can be a great force for progress in Iran, but this is not his moment. As you implied, this movement will generate a young leader from within itself. For now, the supporters of Reza Pahlavi had better work on an enduring slogan that rhymes better and is more pleasing to hear.

Time to move ON!
by 1 Hamvatan (not verified) on Wed Jun 17, 2009 09:02 PM PDTPlease hear (read) what I have to say and see if this will work most people.
Before anything, I would like to thanks the Shah for opening our eyes and ears to the world for all of us, yet at the same time, closed the doors to us by leaving the people at the most desperate time of our history in 1979 and never yet apologized for it. I don't care what excuses anyone brings in regards to him trying to prevent more bloodshed etc. since we all saw what happened afterward. He should have not never left, for God's sake, he was the KING of the country at worst case scenario he would have died as a hero. OK enough said moving 30 years later:
In the last 30 years, improved communications and access to knowledge has enable us to become more independent, educated, and to be able to understand that human needs for choice is even greater than 30 years ago.
Therefore, we could go for a democratic, non religious system to be headed by a elected president by the people for the people, to enforce human laws, and lead us to prosperity. Also to be able to enforce laws not to allow prejudices against religious belief, color of their skins or in our case (Iran) languages, since our country is very unique as having many language spoken in several and ethnics back ground.
We have to continue to learn respecting each others personal beliefs regardless of our personal preferences. NO ONE SHOULD BE ABLE TO IMPOSE HIS/HERS BELIEFS ON TO OTHERS. WE are all part of a Great Nation called IRAN with 2500+ years of great history, we are envy of all other countries.
Now! If we seek to have single headed type of Government such as a KING or Queen, it would be very hard to achieve the democratic laws which we may have in mind, since our choices will becomes limited as well and we go back to where we started 30 years ago, that, we should do not wish to repeat again.
May God protect our country from Traitors who tries to harm our people in anyway.

by Anonymous Irani (not verified) on Wed Jun 17, 2009 07:10 PM PDTYou are right on most of what you say except for a couple, like:
The thing Shahis don't seem to understand is that Shah was forced on Iranian people.
This is what Mosaddeqis want you to believe, but it is totally untrue, except that Shah's rule was not only totally legitimate and his rule was aligned with iranian interests BUT it also coincided with western interests, and the latter is what Mosaddqis and islamists have problem with. In iranian then constitution, shah was above PM and therefore there was no legal way for Mosaddeq to dismiss the shah. Even reza shah went to Parliament to approve his reign replacing Qajar; approval that Mosaddeq could not get and thus dismissed the parliament that he had no legal right to do. They forget that Khomeini had far more support amongst people than Mosaddeq ever had, and we know where that support (and trust) took us.
The leader should be a step ahead of the ruled, or else the nation stagnates (as in IRI), and shah needed to be ahead of his nation who started the last century with single digit literacy rate, or else we would have been far behind where we were in 1979 (although in an illiterate nation he could rule for longer as Qajar did).
I think we should replace worshipping flawed humans, Khomeini, Mosaddeq, or Mousavi, with worshipping rule of law and social and economic justice. The ultimate test of such a system is that someone like RP can safely go to itran and compete with others in presenting his ideas to the people and participating in political system in par with others.

What Shahis don't seem to understand
by Mehdi on Wed Jun 17, 2009 02:09 PM PDTDon't get me wrong, I think Shah was great for Iran and I think RP would also be great if that was even a remote possibility. The thing Shahis don't seem to understand is that Shah was forced on Iranian people. I have no problem with that! BUT, the point is that Shah did not have widespread support and RP definitely does not have it and is pretty much impossible that he ever will. I don't think RP, like his father, truly understands the demographic of the Iranians or their actual culture. RP, as Shah was, is way too modern for average Iranian. In fact, that was one of the most important reasons why Iranians went ahead with the idea of a revolution in 1979 - they simply wanted to replace modernity with "Islamic law" - whatever that was. Most Iranians wanted "hejab" for their kids and themselves. What Shahis don't seem to understand is that they were and still are a small minority. What confuses them, I think, is that they were in power and they don't understand why this could not happen again. Well, simply put, this can't happen again, because no foreign power such as the US finds that useful to them at this time - unlike years ago when manipulating the country was feasible and valid and workable. Please realize that despite their loud complains, the Western countries such as the US, have profitted immendsely from IRI whereas if Shah or his son were still in power, the price of oil would be more like $1,000 a barrel now, and Shah had already made it very clear that he was not about to sell crude oil anymore - only refined petrochemicals at 20X profit margins! So RP is a nice dream for the educated, the wealthy, the ones who have travelled extensively, etc. but it will never have enough support from average Iranians.
New Referendum
by Neda A (not verified) on Wed Jun 17, 2009 02:09 PM PDTAs far as I know, RP has announced on several occasions on international media and TV, that he will accept the will of the Iranians.
Why don't we all unite in advocating a new referendum in Iran, under the supervision of UN, and unbiased representatives of countries like India, Japan, Canada, Scandinavia, Australia, Brazil, China, etc.; to choose between 3 choices: Islamic Republic, Democratic Republic, Mashrooteh Monarchy (something like England, Sweden, Netherlands, Belgium, etc.).
With access to technology, I am sure we can spread the word, if we want to and believe in it, have no bias, and have no common interest with those who are now in power.
Future of Iran will be shaped by the brave, experienced and thoughtful people who live inside the country, as well as those experts who live outside, who love and care for the country, and will go back to rebuild their motherland.

Reza has been away for too long
by ali kasra (not verified) on Wed Jun 17, 2009 10:05 AM PDTHe has been away from Iran in 31 years. He left in summer of 1978 and never returned. When one has been away for so long it would be very difficult for him to be able to really understand the problems of his native country. Even if he goes back and becomes a ruler or President, which is unlikely, the Iranians will always view him as an agent of the West. Iran needs a new leader to rise from the current crisis. They need somebody who has lived among them and understands them.
