I wanted to share this story about an elephant sanctuary in Tennessee. I wanted to show people here something beautiful and rare. This video is both of these things and more. It's inspiring.
As an anti-war advocate, I usually end up reading more about war than peace. Conflict is usually more frequent than resolution. Since last year when the recession became official, I've read stories about people who have stolen, lied, and killed.
I wish we could be like the animals in this video: free, running wild, and helping each other while pooping freely in the grassy terrains. Please be kind to each other. Don't accuse, don't be passive aggressive, tell people you love them, if you don't then don't say anything at all! Everyone, rich and poor is hurting right now more than ever. People are so uncertain and worried but also greedy and resentful.
I usually think human beings are very overrated. We have so much "intelligence" and what good use have we put it to? Swiss banking and Rolex watches? The good things in life are free, but they would be more valuable if everyone started seeing them that way! Kindness, friendship, and love are what will carry you through a hard time, but hopefully your entire life.
These animals aren't different than us, but I think they are much more honest. Good luck to you all. I hope you're not suffering during this hard economy.

Ali! Could you imagine? Wait, I've seen it.
by I Have a Crush on Alex Trebek on Sun Feb 22, 2009 01:21 PM PSTI've seen it in children. Before they are able to mold their strong prejudices or be instructed by their parents how to hate, I think children are like these animals.
Take a good look...

by I Have a Crush on Alex Trebek on Sun Feb 22, 2009 07:47 AM PSTI disagree. I don't think we are good "on the whole". I admit to being cynical, but I'm serious when I say this.
The reason I shared this was these are animals on the brink: they are sick, retired, and used up. But they find companionship to survive rather than fighting each other to survive. Political parties, religion are not helping us overcome this fighting to survive mentality : religion encourages it and so does politics I'm sad to say.
I think we abuse our intelligence. THese animals are so-called "lower on the foodchain" and look at them. Look at us!

by bajenaghe naghi on Sun Feb 22, 2009 12:43 AM PSTelephants are one of my and maryams favorite animals. they are huge beasts but at the same time they are gentle, have very kind eyes and are great parents for their little ones.
as for the humans, i must say that on the whole we are mostly good people no matter what religion we are, what concentration of melanin we carry under our skins or what political party we belong to. most of us want to live reasonably well, work, raise a family of 2.78 children and have 2.5 cars that can run on either gas or electricity or both. most of us will get enjoyment in helping our neighbors or even a total stranger. the problem is that we all get our daily information from the news programs that can only sell their wares if tainted in blood or gore or make their stories so scary that we wet ourselves silly. if we look behind all the misery that these organizations force feed us, we can see some real great stories that will raise our spirits.

by rosie is roxy is roshan on Sat Feb 21, 2009 09:26 PM PSTthat there is some basis for the proverbial "memory of an elephant." The herds are a matriarchy and the leader develops advanced "social memory" (the males do not stay wiith the pack). Alas, there is no basis for the legend of the "elephants' graveyard."

But what I really wanna know is why you left out the most important part: the part about the soap scum.

by I Have a Crush on Alex Trebek on Sat Feb 21, 2009 04:00 PM PSTI can't believe Republicans have highjacked these amazing animals as their symbol. Definitely a mismatch.
