paramilitary kills without check

Last week, a US court threw out a case against Blackwater Worldwide, a (no-bid) contract security paramilitary group. It was a major case because of the charges of murder and recklessness and because of its symbolic value to justice thirsty Iraqis.

I think what upsets me about this case is the reason it was thrown: technicalities associated with how the prosecutors investigated the case witnesses.

Blackwater, like Ahmad Chalabi, received millions of tax payer dollars for contractual work in Iraq. They are both failures and poor partners, but they still got away with murder, literally.

I think that in 2010, we shouldn't expect much anymore from the US wasteful wars. It is not a very happy new year so far. Israel is still making threats to Iran despite the positive, natural progression toward freedom in Iran.

It's an upside down world! Blackwater just makes mistakes, but barely adult stupid Basij are making headlines. Why isn't this a more sensible world?

All is fair in war and illegal war!!!!!

I am not really PO'ed anymore about Iraq War news. It's a strange feeling between fear and frustration. Iraqis never welcomed Bin Laden or Al Qaeda. I can't imagine the feeling of waking up and seeing big blonde smoking men with guns everywhere, for 7 years. Then, after they murder people (and the rumor is they yelled and laughed about it to the neighbors), they are let off and even celebrated by some. I can't imagine the company's heightened sense of arrogance, if it could have increased anymore. The right to kill unchecked is a privilege few thugs and dictators get to enjoy in this world.

This is not acceptable. These might be insignificant people and their families are just victims, but without accountability - who are they hiring? ex soldiers with PTSD? arming them?! - these victims are more significant than ever.

To me at least. There will be HELL to pay in Iraq now. Blackwater needs to be cut off like Ahmad Chalabi was.

All these days as I was reading about Blackwater, I swear I knew that You would be pissed off and soon writing a blog about it!  You are one of my idols on IC, so you know, i think of you :o)

you are right on about this too.  and sad saal be een new year nabaasheh as it's started with ugly news from all over the map. i think my outlook would only be brightened by the news of some debilitating  diseases for dictators anywhere especially in Iran and the neocons like Chehney Lieberman, preferably all of them.

Legalizing torture no-bid contracts & Blackwater immunity legacy

by Anonymouse on

Legalizing torture, no-bid contracts & Blackwater immunity all legacies of Bush era in 2000s turning America's values and ideals upside down just because we, the people elected a drunk moron and got scared not to elect him again.

All that Bush promised became total opposites and total failures and the nightmare continues.  Blackwater was innocent from the beginning and the only thing they could loose was their "license" to do whatever they wanted.  Even after they killed innocent people in cold blood and just for fun, Condi Rice defended them and told the American people we simply need Blackwater to provide us security.  Really?  Since when did American war duties become a non-Governmental duty?  Since when did tax payers' money is used to pay a corporation to fight America's wars?

Marge jaan maybe our generation was raised during the time when we traveled so much and saw so much progress in America to see it suddenly coming to a crashing halt and a complete turnaround.  I doubt if people who grew up in 2000s really understand the difference between cheating and lowering your standards and trying to do the right thing no matter the difficulty.

Everything is sacred.

In many ways, Blackwater is more sinister

by I Have a Crush on Alex Trebek on

Blackwater is paid a la carte to do this. Blackwater is not an organization intended for US demonstrations. heh America isn't outraged enough yet.

What I'm talking about is a Middle Eastern paramilitary organized muder that is is excused by a court. It is wrong if it happens in the US, and it is wrong when it happens in Iran.

Blackwater is also worse because they are NOT military and they still got away. They are contractors. When war crimes are not prosecuted, wars can never be called "just." This is wrong on so many levels, not only because the Iraq war was supposed to be a war of liberation.

The US military is held to a higher standard than the private firms? That is scary. Very scary. It's the dawn of something bad in the USA.

Crush, this is not new

by divaneh on

Double standards and using wrongdoing by others to justify wrongdoing by self has always been there. US is as vulnerable to corruption as any other country. Yet, lucky for the US citizens, their government does not kill them if they protest against its policies. No one will be overjoyed that the Blackwater maniacs got away with their killing game, but at least there was a trial and in some other cases the soldiers have been found guilty. In Iran they kill with total impunity. It seems that we are both against all state crimes and can just moan about it.

And a word to the Truth Inventor. As you see Crush has not been attacked by anyone. That is because pure Aryans are against injustice wherever and to whomever it may happen, unlike non-Aryans such as you who are blinded by their own agenda.

divaneh you can look out for people who will exploits this case

by I Have a Crush on Alex Trebek on

your comment made me realize that while i and others here won't use blackwater's freedom to murder to excuse illegal doing, there are lots of tyrants and torturers who will. The USA is slowly losing its beacon status, and the 2000s war-ing and war-ing to no end and without check is accelerating this loss of status.

wrong divaneh. very wrong.

by I Have a Crush on Alex Trebek on

nothing excuses either blackwater or basij. my point is that there is a dangerous double standard. basij are getting their due. blackwater still gets away. Keep in mind that even US Soldiers are held to account for their actions! Meanwhile, they see these guys getting away with this..... If I were a soldier, I would be very angry. There's another comparison for you.

divaneh

Did I get it right?

by divaneh on

We should not blame the Basij thugs for beating and stabbing people, running them over and shooting at them, because a US court has dropped the case against the Backwater who committed the same crimes in Iraq. That makes perfect sense.

Appreciation "gestures" for military's hard work is enough

by Anonymouse on

Marge jaan there are so many things wrong with this world and getting worse that I don't know where to start.  Like all the doom and gloom movies? like 2012, Eli and many others.

I understand if there was a draft people would be more serious instead of just texting their appreciation to military personnel abroad while bitching and moaning and watching reality TV!

We've made it easy to do anything, just text me cause I'm busy like a bee and don't feel like even talking much less signing up for draft! BTW I heard it took 10 years to make Avatar, so the concept was drafted in Bush era and many of the language and expressions used is really from that era and I really like it.  I don't ever recall people lining up for a movie like they're doing for Avatar.  It's incredible but this time they'll learn something.  I liked Avatar too, very much!

Donald Rumsfeld was a moron with no credentials to lead DoD

by I Have a Crush on Alex Trebek on

Among his many many crimes, Bush's appointment of that idiot was the worst. THe only leadership this guy Rumsfeld had was to be captain of the high school football team and then leading some candy company in the 1960s or 70s and that failed.

Anonymouse, I'm pretty sure you live in the USA and you might understand what I mean when say that I pray pray pray (in the name of holy chelokabob and lord sholeh zard) for a military draft. I want all the young sons, rich and poor, to be shipped off to war so that finally, this lazy country of Americans will spill into the streets and let their leaders know that war is a waste. Education and health are things that invest in democracy and long term national strongholds.

But I am sure you can put them in their place.

Blackwater another brain child of Bush-Cheney-Rumsfeld-Wolfowitz

by Anonymouse on

Marge jaan during Bush era we witnessed all the excesses DoD would like to have had.  They started by riding horses in Afghanistan just like Rambo (remember that?) and then they implemented all the Powerpoint presentations on the ground selling it to We, the people as good wars that will pay for themselves while briging democracy to middle east all with a more leaner and smarter military machine!

Smart (and lean ;-) like Bush-Cheney-Rumsfeld-Wolfowitz all of whom were super smart kids in school and beyond.

I think the world is getting better but We, the people just can't tell the difference anymore!  We, the people are immune to goodness!

Everything is sacred.
