Thank you both. I'm so glad you enjoyed it. I know these topics are terrible. But there IS humor. It's here packed between those papal robes. 

Dear Ebi, I disagree with you. Ted Haggard is an example of the solution, or the potential at least. Let me tell you why I had less anger toward him before his scandal than I do toward most of these evangelical pastors. He was a big proponent of environmental consciousness. He was a big proponent of stopping animal cruelty. Also, he is a father. He used to sell hate speech toward gays, and then look. Can there be a better example of karma? 

I agree that he deserves it in the sense that yes, if you depend on a church to support and save you, you're wasting your time. Haggard has learned a bunch of lessons I'm sure. I hope he reveals them, regardless of his belief in Jesus and God. You don't treat people that way, especially if you call yourself "christian". What they did was cruel, but expected. All the more reason for him to come out.

He has almost as many kids as this octuplet mom. Whatever mistakes Haggard has made in judging homosexuals, I admire his courage to show us his story. I have sympathy for him because he has to face his children. I admire him for staying with his wife, even if it might be temporary.

Homosexuality is still so complicated, even for a homosexual! Iranian families are not much different than the mid western heartland families in the USA. they love greasy food, babies, vatan and weddings! Haggard could do more, but I think he is staying quiet so he can gather more earnings from the church he founded. He has so many children. I don't think he has any way to support them except staying quiet until that dumb church leaves him alone.

On the topic of proof, I wonder if you can e-mail the Bishop somehow. "Now that you have been rehabilitated and now suspended, can we have PROOF of Jesus? Proof that your Church didn't kill? Didn't persecute?"

So all of a sudden every one is so engrossed in the memory of ...[gasp] the Holocaust. What happened? I thought you were all fed up with it?
I guess the image needs a bit trimming after what happened lately.

1. Nazy is right. What a great point. the Deniers of Holocaust do not limit their shameful views to Jews or to that period - it speaks volumes about how they would treat any human.

If you enjoyed PERSEPOLIS by M. Satrapi, please make sure you read MAUS. It's an important graphic novel about the Holocaust by Art Spiegel. Of course there is more literary proof, primary source type evidence. The Diary of Ann Frank. But who reads books anymore? Not the Catholic Church, obviously. Even if they did, alas, I'm sure Bishop Dick would attribute Anne's words to "colorful imaginings of a Christ reject". Grrr.

2. The mass killing set off by the Pope that I'm speaking of is The Crusades. 300 years of killing Muslims so that the so-called Holy City, the source of so much pain in this world, could be saved. I'm a big Monty Python fan, and Terry Jones has another documentary called THE CRUSADES. In it he shows, with Pythonesque wit how all our trouble started. almost 1000 years of death, destruction, hate and no peace. Now the Vatican has a peace policy. Too little, too late, too shady.

Let's take a look, shall we? I give you PILGRIMS IN ARMS. CRUSADE 1 (there were 9!!!! 9!!!! do you know how many popes were condoning this stuff? now they are trying to guide us through BIOETHICS? Save it.

Greetings Marge and thank you for your as usual very funny and thought provoking contributions.

The Holocaust was real. The shame of it still sits with humanity after all these decades. Only idiots and warmongers ignore or question its validity. Denying a horrific series of genocidal acts does not help anyone. Accepting them, regretting them, and mourning their casualties will lead the way to making sure this will never happen again. I don't need proof that the Holocaust happened. It did. I need proof that nothing like that will ever happen again, for this is planet earth here and now and where and when my short life takes place.

I leave you with a thought, Marge. The same guys who are denying the Holocaust in Tehran are also denying what happened with those bodies buried in Khavaran Cemetery. Need I say more?

Every time I saw that blue head of yours in the

midst of all the fighting my heart would just open with joy like I was a child again and I just couldn't stop laughing.

And I remember when you left and came back and you went on this thread and there were all these different kinds of people, and people who hated each other, and every single one of them was so happy to see you back. I never saw anything like that here. Never.

Well I was planning on writing three things, one about Israel and the Jews (and the Holocaust and the state of the world today), one about the meaning of Iran, of Persia to the world, and one about the Shah. So I'll stay that long. And I'll be glad to talk to you about the Holocaust.  Let's see how the thread goes....

I love you a lot Rosie. You're a master of wit and just like us Iranians, as our wonderful Ali Daiee once said in an interview with NAVAD - you are very emotional. You fit in perfectly here. Don't leave. But let's have some peace. There isn't enough. 

I want you to stay despite it all. I want us to talk about the Holocaust - here is our chance. The Holocaust was very real. It was very very wrong and we should not forget it. If it can happen to the Jews, it can happen to anyone.
