As a mostly sporadic and at times regular visitor to Iranian.com since the mid 90's, I have found the site to have great versitility and to be a great source of Iranian related content.
It seems to have undergone many transformations both in the way it looks and presumably in the way it operaates and its business model. And like many great establishments it clearly has seen good times and bad times and has survived to become stronger.
Admittedley howvever with the advent of youtube, I now rarely visit its music section, but the other day when I felt like listening to Sharam Nazri's Benmaay Rokh - It wasn't on youtbue - but it is here on the archive of Iranian.com - where I first come across this little gem now over a decade ago- when I used to live in a remote part of Scotalnd and looking for something to remind me of home.
Read the background here and listen to it here.
It is a shame though that this wonderful content is now hidden and you have to search for it. There are also other things you cannt get on youtube.. Shahre Qhesseh, revolutionary songs of Fadayaneh khalegh and much more..
Thanks JJ for you wonderful effort and founding and managing such a supberb site.
Payandeh basheed.

Dear Nazy & IRANdokht Jan
by khaleh mosheh on Sat Feb 28, 2009 04:58 PM PSTThe Iranian.com can be very addictive and JJ has certainly done a fantastic job- but I guess it can at times be rather difficult as you cannt please all of the people all of the time.
I agree wholehearteedly with your point about the site being a great forum for young artist wanting to reach a greater audience- it had also occured to me several times but failed to mention it earlier. Thanks for pointing it out.
Ba arezoy salamti
How thoughtful of you
by IRANdokht on Sat Feb 28, 2009 10:08 AM PSTDear Khaleh
It's very sweet of you to blog about the music section and remind us all of all the work that has gone into this wonderful site and the (sometimes) hidden treasures in it. JJ puts a lot of time and effort into it and it shows, but also the contributors have built a great archive of poems, stories, historical events, pictures, and even news items etc...
We tend to take good things for granted.
Thanks for the nice blog! and thanks Jahanshah for all the work, time and effort. You've built a great site that I for one cannot pry myself away from.
IRANdokht
Thank you
by Nazy Kaviani on Sat Feb 28, 2009 09:39 AM PSTThank you Khaleh Mosheh for reminding me that using the more hidden resources of Iranian.com, it's really important every once in a while to say a thank you for all the work that has gone into building its archives over the years. Known artists aside, I am personally grateful to Jahanshah for discovering and featuring music from up and coming young Iranian musicians. I heard Mohsen Namjoo's music for the first time on Iranian.com, much like Shahin Najafi and Kiosk. In his recent appearance in the Bay Area, Mohsen Namjoo mentioned owing his fame to his otherwise underground music's publication on the internet. Many young artists who don't have any hope of finding a promoter are regularly featured here and I think that is really fabulous both for those artists and for us as audience, thanks to Jahanshah.
I have always used photographs from photo essays published on Iranian.com in my blogs. I have always thought of those hundreds and thousands of photographs of Iran and Iranians on the site as my treasure chest! When I watched Jahanshah interviewed by his nephew not too long ago, telling him how it had taken him two whole days to edit and publish one photo essay on the site, I was so embarrassed for realizing just how much work it takes to do what is now a regular staple of the site, realizing this is what he has been doing for years with all those millions of photographs!
Thank you for reminding me that I should chime in and say thank you Jahanshah and Iranian.com for giving so many of us so much of your love and life for all these years, painstakingly putting together the collage of arts, identity, and nostalgia that make the beautiful mosaic of Iran and Iranians.
Music Section
by nikinotloggedin (not verified) on Sat Feb 28, 2009 09:22 AM PSTThe music section was one of two things that brought me to iranian.com initially, and then made me return again and again until it became the full blown addiction that I have now :-) The other was the "satire" section. The variety of songs and artists is really unbeatable. But you are right, you have to make a few left turns, a right turn, a U-turn, and run a few red lights before finding your path to the music section now :-)
I will now enjoy..
by khaleh mosheh on Sat Feb 28, 2009 08:48 AM PSTLooking up many of my old favorite songs- in addition to this masterpiece- on here. Thanks for showing me how to find the old archived songs JJ.
Thank you
by Jahanshah Javid on Sat Feb 28, 2009 08:25 AM PSTKhaleh Moosheh! You are very kind. The music section has gone through lots of changes. But all the old content is still there. If you look at the A to Z index in the lower half of the page, you'll see Shahram Nazeri listed and all three tracks from She'r o Erfan album, including Benmaay Rokh, are available. She'r o Erfan is one of my favorite albums of all time. It's the first music album of any kind officially produced in Iran after the revolution. And what a timeless masterpiece it is.
Enjoy!
