دنگ شو
The first time I heard the name (دنگ شو), like anybody else, I asked the question, “What does (دنگ شو) mean?” And it turns out that the key to understanding this music group is in the understanding of the two Farsi words, (دنگ) and (شو). Actually, (دنگ شو) turned out to be one of the shortest statements with the most meaning I have ever heard in the Persian language.
In the English grammar, (دنگ شو) is what is called an “Imperative” or a “Command Statement”. Someone is saying, commanding, ordering, making a point, or it is an imperative to become (دنگ).
(شو) means become, evolve into, alter, assume the form of some other thing, be converted to, be reformed, be remodeled, be transformed into, change into, convert, develop into, emerge as, grow into, become mature, metamorphose, ripen into, shift, turn into. Any one of those, or all of those.
And ( دنگ) , it could mean any number of things, depending on your mood, your emotional state, your mind set, depending on at what stage in your life you’ll listen to their music. The word ( دنگ) means, unaware, unconscious, wonder, bewildered, matte, and yes it also could mean, ignorant, unwitting fool, crazy, and confused.
And that’s the art of (دنگ شو) group. Their music, which at the simplest description could be defined as a fusion of Persian classical music and Western Jazz music, takes you into a world of wonder; just let it go, and let it take your mind to a place of imagination, to dreams, to an unconscious state.
در عشق جانان جان بده, بی عشق
نگشاید گره
ای روح اینجا مست شو, ای عقل
اینجا دنگ شو
Here is the place where YOU can become (دنگ); the group is performing at Yoshi’s in San Francisco on Sunday April 3rd. As I have heard, the group is so popular that the first show quickly sold out, but fortunately they have decided to add a second show, immediately following the first one. I highly recommend to any music-lover in the Bay Area to come and watch these wonderful artists perform.

by Multiple Personality Disorder on Thu Mar 31, 2011 11:50 PM PDTFaramarz, their brand of music is inspired by the traditional Persian music and the Iranian music before 1979 revolution, Azerbaijani jazz, Argentinean music, French Chansons, and as well as Jazz music from the US and Europe.
Monda, yes, I hope and I am sure we see each other at the concert.
Yolanda, your comments are always more interesting than my blogs.

by yolanda on Thu Mar 31, 2011 11:11 PM PDTHi MPD,
Thank you for the humorous & warm introduction! I listened to the sample......it sounds jazzy and soothing! Thank you for the grammar lesson too! It reminds me of the days that I started to learn English......imperative, Interrogative and declarative sentence types....it was fun!
This part really cracked me up:
it could mean any number of things, depending on your mood, your emotional state, your mind set, depending on at what stage in your life you’ll listen to their music.
*************
I hope the music group will have the chance to read this piece....I am sure it will put a smile on the musicians' faces!
fun read MPD

Meglio Stasera - Kami Ahestetar
by Faramarz on Thu Mar 31, 2011 01:17 PM PDTThank you MPD for the introduction. Their music (kami ahestetar) is very smooth and easy to listen to.
Although, I have to say that I am biased towards the original version of Meglio Stasera and the Pink Panther!
