The Book of Destruction
1: In the beginning the sky and the earth was already there for billions of years
2: And the earth was full of life, and occupied; and light was upon the face of the earth. And the spirit of nature moved upon the face of the waters
3: And God said, Let the ground shake and the sea swell; and there was shaking of the ground and swelling of the sea
4: And God saw the shaking of the ground and the swelling of the sea, that it was good, and God divided the shaking ground from the swelling sea
5: And God called the shaking ground earthquake, and the swelling sea tsunami. And this was in the first day
6: And God said, Let there be flooding and destruction in the midst of the island, and let it flood by the waters from the waters
7: And God flooded the island, and divided the waters that were near the island from the waters that were far from the island: and it was so
8: And God called the island Land of the Rising Sun. And the evening and the morning were the second day
9: And God said, Let nuclear power plants in the Land of the Rising Sun fail, and let the island suffer: and it was so
10: And God called the island, which was flooded and suffering, and its nuclear power plants failing, Japan; and the gathering of the waters He called Pacific Ocean: and God saw that it was good
11: And God said, Let the radiation contaminate the grass, the herb yielding seed, and the fruit tree yielding fruit, whose seed is contaminated within itself, upon the earth: and it was so
12: And the radiation contaminated the grass, and herb yielding seed after seed, and the tree yielding fruit, with seed in them, seed after seed: and God saw that it was good
13: And the evening and the morning were the third day
14: And God said, Let the lights in the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant go out; and let them not see the signs, and the stairways, for days, and weeks
15: And let them glow with radiation in the expanse of darkness, to give light upon the earth: and it was so
16: And God released two great sources of radioactive materials; the greater radioactive material plutonium, and the lesser one uranium; He released the isotopes also
17: And God set them in the contaminated land to give off more radiation upon the earth
18: And to contaminate every day and every night, and to contaminate from daylight to the darkness of the night: and God saw that it was good
19: And the evening and the morning were the fourth day
20: And God said, Let the waters take the contamination abundantly to the moving creature that hath life, and fowl that may fly above the earth in the open sky.
21: And God contaminated the great whales, and every living creature that moveth, which the waters brought forth abundantly, one after another, and every winged fowl after another: and God saw that it was good
22: And God was pleased, saying, Be impotent, and decrease, and void the waters in the seas, and let fowl decrease in the earth
23: And the evening and the morning were the fifth day
24: And God said, Let Us contaminate every living creature one after another, cattle after cattle, and creeping thing, and beast of the earth, and it was so
25: And God contaminated the beast of the earth one after another, cattle after cattle, and every thing that creepeth upon the earth one after another: and God saw that it was good
26: And God said, Let Us retouch man’s image in our own image, to make him more realistic: and let them have dominion over the contaminated fish of the sea, and over the contaminated fowl of the air, and over the contaminated cattle, and over all the contaminated earth, and over every contaminated creeping thing that creepeth upon the contaminated earth
27: So God created a retouched image of man, in the image of God He retouched him; male and female He retouched them.
28: And God cursed them, and God said unto them, Be impotent, and decrease, and deplete the earth, and destroy it: and have dominion over the contaminated fish of the sea, and over the contaminated fowl of the air, and over every contaminated living thing that moveth upon the contaminated earth
29: And God said, Behold, I have given you every contaminated herb bearing seed, which is upon the face of all the contaminated earth, and every contaminated tree, which has contaminated fruit yielding seed; it shall be poisonous food for you
30: And to every contaminated beast of the earth, and to every contaminated fowl of the air, and to every contaminated thing that creepeth upon the earth, wherein there is life, I have given every contaminated green herb for food: and it was so
31: And God saw every thing that he had contaminated, and, behold, it was very good! And the evening and the morning were the sixth day

by yolanda on Tue Mar 29, 2011 11:57 PM PDTI checked "firmament" in Chinese version of Bible.......in 1:6, 1:7, and 1:8, "Firmament" means "air"......in 1:14,"firmament" refers to sky or heaven, a little vague...........in 1:15, 1:17, & 1:20 "firmament" clearly refers to "Sky".......!
Well, I think "steam" refers to hot air........
Firmament
by Multiple Personality Disorder on Tue Mar 29, 2011 11:31 PM PDT"Firmament" means a lot of things:
//thesaurus.com/browse/firmament
But in the Farsi translation of Genesis, which I included as a comment, it translates into English as "masses of steam". I think, because back then there was only water, God parted steam from the water, since steam is another form of water, and it was steam that formed the atmosphere, the sky. It makes sense! It was very scientific! But, I am not sure about the six days that it took to make all of that.

by yolanda on Tue Mar 29, 2011 09:38 PM PDTHi MPD,
I have KJV of Bible at home.......but the Genesis passage I downloaded on Internet is New International Version.......easier to read....KJV says "firmament" instead of "sky".....OMG! That is a big word.....too many letters! :O)
I have a copy of Koran too.....several years ago....next door University had Open House......there was a Booth for Muslim student association...they were selling baklavas and giving away Korans.......so I got a copy and also bought baklava.......$1.00 apiece! Koran and Bible are very different....Bible is implicit.....Koran pretty explicit!.......... Persian proverbs appear in Bible:
//www.farsinet.com/vaziri/persian_proverbs_and_bible.html
This one sounds really Persian:
The heart of the wise is in the house of mourning, but the heart of fools is in the house of pleasure Ecclesiastes 7:4
Yes, mourning is important over there!

Genesis, King James Version
by Multiple Personality Disorder on Tue Mar 29, 2011 09:28 PM PDTHi Yolanda, what I wrote is based on the King James version of Genesis. Some of the verses, such as how many days passed, I did not even have to change. Off and on I have read, or heard, verses from the Bible but in no way I know the Bible very well. I don't even know a small fraction of it.

by yolanda on Tue Mar 29, 2011 07:50 PM PDTHi MPD,
Very creative and sad piece modeled after Old Testament Genesis Chapter One........I read your piece early morning.....did not get a chance to write a post and had to run to work.....after I came home and read Genesis chapter one.....I am confident your piece is inspired by Genesis ch#1.....'cause your piece and Genesis chapter one both have 31 verses......content is comparable! Very interesting!
2 places cracked me up:
5: And God called the shaking ground earthquake, and the swelling sea tsunami.
Wow! God speaks Japanese,too- tsunami (tidal waves)
8: And God called the island Land of the Rising Sun.
*******************
The rest is very sad............the word "contaminated" appeared 28 times in your Book of Destruction........very sad scenario.......I really don't know how the nuclear mess will end?
Wow! You know Bible very well!
Thank you for the unique piece! I hope Fukushima ends up better than Chernobyl!

by yolanda on Tue Mar 29, 2011 07:07 PM PDTHere is Old Testament, Genesis Chapter One:
The Beginning1 In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. 2 Now the earth was formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters.
3 And God said, “Let there be light,” and there was light. 4 God saw that the light was good, and he separated the light from the darkness. 5 God called the light “day,” and the darkness he called “night.” And there was evening, and there was morning—the first day.
6 And God said, “Let there be a vault between the waters to separate water from water.” 7 So God made the vault and separated the water under the vault from the water above it. And it was so. 8 God called the vault “sky.” And there was evening, and there was morning—the second day.
9 And God said, “Let the water under the sky be gathered to one place, and let dry ground appear.” And it was so. 10 God called the dry ground “land,” and the gathered waters he called “seas.” And God saw that it was good.
11 Then God said, “Let the land produce vegetation: seed-bearing plants and trees on the land that bear fruit with seed in it, according to their various kinds.” And it was so. 12 The land produced vegetation: plants bearing seed according to their kinds and trees bearing fruit with seed in it according to their kinds. And God saw that it was good. 13 And there was evening, and there was morning—the third day.
14 And God said, “Let there be lights in the vault of the sky to separate the day from the night, and let them serve as signs to mark sacred times, and days and years, 15 and let them be lights in the vault of the sky to give light on the earth.” And it was so. 16 God made two great lights—the greater light to govern the day and the lesser light to govern the night. He also made the stars. 17 God set them in the vault of the sky to give light on the earth, 18 to govern the day and the night, and to separate light from darkness. And God saw that it was good. 19 And there was evening, and there was morning—the fourth day.
20 And God said, “Let the water teem with living creatures, and let birds fly above the earth across the vault of the sky.” 21 So God created the great creatures of the sea and every living thing with which the water teems and that moves about in it, according to their kinds, and every winged bird according to its kind. And God saw that it was good. 22 God blessed them and said, “Be fruitful and increase in number and fill the water in the seas, and let the birds increase on the earth.” 23 And there was evening, and there was morning—the fifth day.
24 And God said, “Let the land produce living creatures according to their kinds: the livestock, the creatures that move along the ground, and the wild animals, each according to its kind.” And it was so. 25 God made the wild animals according to their kinds, the livestock according to their kinds, and all the creatures that move along the ground according to their kinds. And God saw that it was good.
26 Then God said, “Let us make mankind in our image, in our likeness, so that they may rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky, over the livestock and all the wild animals,[a] and over all the creatures that move along the ground.”
27 So God created mankind in his own image,
in the image of God he created them;
male and female he created them.
28 God blessed them and said to them, “Be fruitful and increase in number; fill the earth and subdue it. Rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky and over every living creature that moves on the ground.”
29 Then God said, “I give you every seed-bearing plant on the face of the whole earth and every tree that has fruit with seed in it. They will be yours for food. 30 And to all the beasts of the earth and all the birds in the sky and all the creatures that move along the ground—everything that has the breath of life in it—I give every green plant for food.” And it was so.
31 God saw all that he had made, and it was very good. And there was evening, and there was morning—the sixth day.
داستان آفرينش
Multiple Personality DisorderTue Mar 29, 2011 06:12 PM PDT
.
