According to ABC News, “To entice [Shahram] Amiri, the CIA offered him $5 million and offered to get him and his wife and son out of Tehran and resettle them in the U.S, as the CIA commonly does for important defectors… Amiri agreed to take the money and offer of resettlement, but told the CIA he would leave his family behind.  When asked why he would go alone, Amiri told the CIA he disliked his wife… “

Caption translation: ... then my wife said, "You fucking asshole, why didn't you take me with you to America?"

Thanks for another funny cartoon. I have to say that this thread is funny also with discussion about amount of affection Shahram Amiri did or did not show his wife and how Ali Vakili Rad was showing affection actually to his mom not his wife.

The woman in the video is Vakili's mother.  It's unbelievable that after not seeing each for so long they kept their emotions, if they have any, in check.  I believe the commentators mistakenly thought she was his wife.  Thank you for your thorough research.

Thank you for the cartoon........I watched a lot of Amiri's airport reception videos...they all showed that he was eager to see and hug his son.....but none of the videos showed that he was excited to see his wife.....I guess it is easier to act like an abductee than a loving hubby!

P.S. Ali Vakili Rad showed way more affection to his wife when he returned to Iran.
