Our very own special version of Godwin's Law

Godwin's Law states that "As an online discussion grows longer, the probability of a comparison involving Nazis or Hitler approaches 1."

//en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Godwin's_law

Ofcourse this law applies to any online discussion including those on Iranian.com, but I should like to suggest an amendment for our very own favourite site:

"As a discussion on Iranian.com grows longer, the probability of one or more parties accusing the others of being an 'agent' or an 'applogist' approaches 1, at which point the discussion thread is lost because the parities have stopped putting forward arguments."

yin and yang.

by Princess on

Ari,

Like everything else in life I think we would not have your first list, if it wasn't for your second list, possibly with the exception of "Agent".

Now that you have brought up the motto of the site, and since I am in an amending mood, I would also like to amend the motto. How about "Nothing is Sacred, but life"

Ok Princess

IC's first law. And here's my contribution so that this blog does not become an ironic exception: "Nothing is Sacred" contains the the letters for, Art, dance, candor, action, teach, reason, care.

But also, Agent, anger, sinister, and insane.

How about IC's First Law?

by Princess on

JJ and Ari, I think calling it IC's First Law would be much more appropriate, don't you?

Doostaan, As JJ says it is a very ugly phenomenon and I am glad to see that nobody has called anyone an agent here yet. Let's hope we learn to argue our points rather than lable or make accusations against those who think differently from us.

PS: It would also be good if I finally learned to spell. :) Apologies for the mistakes!

Your blog made my day because now I see a few more people are interested in patterns on threads here (and we're not even paid by any agency:o)

Excellent suggestion!

by Sargord Pirouz on

Every one of my comments and blog posts is riddled with respondents with that wildly false accusation. I don't know if it's a sign of their paranoia or intellectual laziness, or both. But I'm inclined to think it's intellectual laziness.

Yeah, the rule should be (if isn't already) resorting to the iranian.com law automatically renders the argument lost for those accusing "agent of" or "apologist for".

Did y'all hear that?

Azadeh Azad

Thank you, dear Princess

by Azadeh Azad on

Following the example of Germany's Nazometer, a mock measurement device that allegedly screens spoken language and gives alarms even for minor Nazi-specific words such as "Autobahn" and "Eva," I suggest the creation of a Mullahmeter for the iranian.com community, a device that would detect IRI specific written words such as "Shahid," "imperialism," "Israel,"  "mosque,"  "spies,""Ayatollah," etc.

This is getting very scientific now

by divaneh on

Thank you for your first law Princess. I have used it to calculate how many comments one can safely post without being labelled an agent or apologist and have arrived at the figure of 1.2475 posts. I don't know if it's me or your law.

May I modify your term to "Princess' First Law." I suspect we will see more keen observations from this ICologist.

Thank you for showing this ugly, useless, tiresome phenomenon in scientific terms. May I suggest that it be re-christened in your name for the Iranian.com community?

How many more comments before you or I or ... is called an agent on this thread? I say 2, max!
