Aynak: Thanks for the interesting link to the band. Also, if you listen to the song "Toranj" from Namjoo, he's sliced in 2 Beyts from "Goftam Ghameh To Daram." (The rest of the poem is by Khajoo-yeh Kermani) And when you study the Hafez poem, there seems to be a reason why Namjoo has picked those 2 specific Beyts....

برای نکته هایی که مطرح کردید. به هرروی - از healing قلب ها که بگذریم
(که این کلمه از نظر من در احساسات در واقع همان فراموش کردن تدریجی است
) که این شعر طبیعتا خاطره انگیز (یاد آوری آنچه به فراموشی سپردنش منجر
به بهبود بوده) شد.
هم غزل "گفتم غم تو دارم ..." را با خجلت برای اولین بار در آهنگ اوهام شنیدم.

Hafez constantly, and I mean constantly pushes you to put heart over mind. (Mind is to serve heart, perhaps, but the driver is "heart.") Do remember a 3rd alternative: that there is a landlord watching you do the responsible thing of caring for the housekeeping. Free-will and religion were not incompatible for the Persians who introduced the concept of "free-will" to theology - just something to ponder.
Aynak: With Ramin's permission given this is his Blog - I wanted to throw in a comment as your story was very moving! My observation was that both of you had too much "pride" -- If you look up the Ghazal: "Goftam gham-eh to daram" - it's a wonderful lesson and journey, Beyt by Beyt in shedding your pride, layer by layer, in order to achieve union. I hope both yours and this lady's hearts have healed.

Sometimes it is better to let the mind be.
If there is unity then who needs the mind to rationalize it!
Ultimately, sensing unity is for the transformation of the heart, if the heart transforms then it does not matter if you believe that the Universe is governed by a supreme being or if as I believe we are the conscious mind of the universe with the responsibility to care for it as the landlord is absent and someone has to care for the housekeeping.

رفته بودیم ایران و با دختری آشنا و سخت دلبسته شدیم. مدتی مراوده دور و نزدیک داشتیم. متاسفانه برای ما و خوش بختانه برای او، مطبی داشت و دفتری و دستکی. پدر پیری هم داشت . هرچه میگفتیم بیا اینجا، می گفت مگر خارج چه خبر است که اینجا نیست؟ شما بیا اینجا. یک بار گفتم اینجا نفس نمیتوان کشید، گفت، پس ما اینجا خفه ایم؟ گفتم تخصص ما اینجا به کار نمی اید، گفت تخصص همه جا به کار اید. خلاصه شاید هم آزمونی بود- که به هر حال ما مردود گشتیم. البته در ته دل از ینکه اینجا بیاید و نتواند به کارش که سخت دوست داشت بپردازد و بعد ما را عامل نا خوشی- دلمان را می آزرد. پس ما که اهل فال و حافظ نبودیم به ناچار دست به گریبان هر دو بردیم که آمد:

It is in the ocean, dark and shaken by the emotion hence the wind effect on the letters as if they are being watched from a distant shore with some distortion and reflection in a dark background.
It is perhaps a visual description of the potent verse:
شب تاریک و بیم موج و گردابی چنین هایل
But I think the entire poem describes the stage of Sufi spiritual retreat.
به می سجاده رنگین کن گرت پیر مغان گوید
This is his repetion of Zekr and the special breath taking.
همه کارم ز خود کامی به بدنامی کشید آخر
This is his repentence
حضوری گر همیخواهی از او غایب مشو حافظ
This is the desire of unity.
Of course those of you who know me as an atheist would be confused by my analysis but that is another long story!

by Hafez for Beginners on Thu Mar 22, 2012 03:40 PM PDTThere's a lot of longing in this poem: a nod to the reality that "eshgh", something / someone that touches your heart is easily discernible, it's what comes after that, which causes the "moshkel"ha. Perseverence can be rife with fear and unkowns - and I love the 5th Beyt about being lost in the middle of a hazardous ocean vs. those who are peacefully existing along the sea's shore.
Ramin: For me, the fact that you went beyond allowing the poem to touch you, and went on to create something - is a respectful nod to Hafez. You didn't enjoy the Ghazal from the sea's shore, and flung yourself in the stormy waves to express your feeling via the art created. That's a great testament to the poem!
