Hello everyone! I will be going to Iran and was going to bring back some Iranian movies...but I heard some Iranian DVDs (or I think they are called VCDs) do not work on the DVD players here. Some have said I need to buy the DVDs from specific stores. My cousin bought original DVDs and neither worked on her home DVD player or labtop.
If you have any advice or information, I greatly appreciate it.
ALSO!!!!! what things can I not bring back? They say "zereshk" and "tokhmeh" will be taken. Any ideas?
Thanks in advance for your help.

I did that
by Majid on Wed Apr 30, 2008 10:00 AM PDTFrom Mehr aabaad air port's little store I bought about 17 movies, ALL but one plays here in my regular DVD player, and that "one" plays in computer. Some of them are original copies and some duplicates, so I am not as familiar with the differences as Behrang is.
As for stuff that you can not bring back, most agricultural items are officialy banned due to possible unknown pest issue.
However you can bring back what you want with the risk of them being taken away from you, and that can be a hit and miss as well.
Good luck in your visit and enjoy.
You can bring everything back!
by Ari (not verified) on Wed Apr 30, 2008 09:45 AM PDTI can't give you any ideas about DVD's but in terms of food products you can bring everything so long as they are dried; and absolutely no problem in bringing back zereshk and tokhmeh.
When they ask you on your immigration papers upon your return what do you have with you; there is a list of questions: food, vegetables etc.. say no, because they are referring to fresh food.
My father brings me back a suitcase full of this stuff when he comes; and he is coming here in a few days. So if you have not left by May 4th, I will let you know. But I am sure you won't have any trouble.
Also bring back some genuine news about what is taking place over there, vs. all of the propaganda that we are receiving from the media in this country.
I am not kidding; I don't trust anything I read in the papers here!
Have a most enjoyable and safe trip. Have lot's and lot's of fun, there are some wonderful places to visit.
VCDs yes DVDs (usually not)
by behrang barzin on Tue Apr 29, 2008 07:57 PM PDTok, you are confusing 2 different things. In iran most movis are on VCD.the quality is lower than DVD and its cheaper. but the good thing is VCDs work in almost ALL computers and %90 of DVD players here in US. If you buy DVD from Iran, there is agood chance it might not work on your DVD player here in US, unless you have one of those "Universal DVD players" that can play DVDs from anywhere in the world. (some computers have those). just stick to VCDs and you will be fine. there is a good store on Shariati Ave. righ tunder Cinama Farhang. their prices are little higher but they sell good quality VCDs. you can also buy cheap VCDs from vendors and small kiosks in and around Tajrish SQ but thats hit and miss...they only cost you $1-$2 but some are defected. try to bargain with Veders if you are buying more than 3. good luck. and say hello to Tehran for me...
