Need translation..."vakeelam?"

I was watching a movie (a movie brought over from Iran)...and in one scene the guy asks the girl "Vakeelam?". I don't understand this. I thought that word is usually used by a clergy when there is wedding/aghd. Yet, in this movie the guy and the girl are in the park and he asks her that question. She then shly looks away.... Does he want to marry her right there? Or am I totally off? Or is that how guys propose in Iran?
Anyway, I'd appreciate it if someone that has a better understanding of the Iranian culture/language and doesn't mind explaining to clear my confusion.

act Behalf of someone

Bidaram suggestion could be good but it could be something eles, it depends on the context. What he told her before ? Vakilam, means do you agree with my poposal and I'll do it in behalf of you.

by bajenaghe naghi on Sat Jun 14, 2008 10:48 PM PDTI think he was telling her that he is lawyer and he is going to sue her. Never trust these lawyers. They become lawyers only to, as they say in this country, to sue your pants off. I think that is what he meant. But I am not good authority on these kinds of things. may be someone else will give you a better answer. The bible says seek and you shall find. I really think in time you will find the answer to what you are seeking. Please have patience.

My guess is that he does not want to go to a cleric to perform the ceremony, possibly for a temporary marriage, and wants the permission of the girl to self-administer it!
