What a despicable slogan for Iranian soccer team!
by Savalan

As it is seen in the photo, the slogan for Iranian Football team bus in the AFC Asia Cup 2011 is: "Princes of Persia." Unfortunately, slogans such as this one are very normal in Iran that its non-Persian population are subjected to racism and discrimination by not only the government but also by the society. The slogans for all 16 participating countries are:Australia: "We’re the Thunder from Down Under"Bahrain: "Think Once, Think Twice, Think Bahrin"China: "The Rising Dragon"India: "11 Players, A Billion Heartbeats"Iran: "Princes of Persia"Iraq: "The Lions of Mesopotamia"Japan: "Samurai Blue! Top of Asia"Jordan: "Al Nashama are coming"Korea DPR: "Win with Fight and Courage, Bring the Crown to the Motherland"Korea Republic: "Return of the King, Pride of Asia!"Kuwait: "This Is The Blue Wave"Qatar: "Al-Annabi"Saudi Arabia: "The Green Falcons"Syria: "Red Eagles"United Arab Emirates: "A Million Welcomes The Whites"Uzbekistan: "Strenght is in Unity!"

'We have more important problems than discussing this"

Iran is a diverse country consisting of people of many religions and ethnic backgrounds cemented by the same culture. Is´nt it beautiful?!..and so is Team Melli.

Wish the best for the Team Melli with its multi ethnic and religious background.

But my biggest wish is democracy for the people of Iran.

Savlan isn't an Iranian, he's a panturk from turkey or north azerbeyjan. The panturks and their racist goal led to the killing of 1 million Armenians and they are still killing and discriminating against Kurds, or "mountian Turks" according to them. Not to mention the tat and tylish Persians that are suffering under the racist panturkish rule in north azerbeyjan.

The Dumbest Post

by HHH on

First of all Iran's name was PARS for 2500 years so calling Iran Persia is not racism just as calling Iran "Iran" or "Aryaiian" is not racism. Persia or Pars has always included 10 to 20 different ethnicities and the reason they called our land Persia or Pars was because Persians 1. Were the majority 2. Created the world's largest & most powerful empire ever.

Second point is the meaning of "Shahzadeh" or "Shaazdeh" which is used to describe a "Dear, valuable, loved & spoiled person." So "Princes of Persia" only means "Iran's loved-ones and valuable members."

Stop this race-sensitivity crap. Your race is far from pure and I mean whoever you are. We're all mixed blood after 7000 years of attacks by foreign nations and mixing with ours after they raped our women.

Just be a human and enjoy your humanity.

Wikipedia says:

Both Persia and Iran are used interchangeably in cultural contexts

The name Iran is a cognate of Aryan, and means "Land of the Aryans

Thank you for the article link.....

So you think Iran should have 2 official languages? Farsi and Azeri? or 3 official languages? Farsi/Azeri/Kurdish?

Before 1935, Iran was called "Persia"........Is "Persia" a racist word?

Savalan

The Belief that Iran Is the Land of Aryans

by Savalan on

Persian racism openly defines Iran as the land of these so-called Aryans who are in turn identified with the dominant Persian group, its language, culture, and identity. Through this racist process, Farsi becomes the only national/official language and the Persian culture gets identified as the national culture of all Iranians; just as Iran’s history gets appropriated to the advantage of this so-called ‘Aryan’ race by excluding, distorting, and erasing the histories, stories, and narratives of other ethnic groups. This exclusion takes place in government-sponsored research projects, schoolbooks, university texts, curriculum, allocation of research funding, etc. In short, under the racist order in Iran, to be Iranian becomes equated with being Persian. This kind of racist identification serves to foreignize and otherize those communities who are not Persian and who do not speak Farsi as their natural mother tongue.

land of Aryan , home of Kiaan & realm of Cyrus of Anshan.

Madadi ;

A bit of misunderstanding here. In trilingual sys Parsi shall be the official language of government, Academia, media & foreign relations. Farsi & Azari shall only be utilised along side Parsi in areas where majorities dictate. This is the most realistic approach & least confrontational. With this approach, we get the least resistance in the process of Kianocizing Iran linguisticaly/culturaly/socialy ;). Remember, Cyrus(bbhs) showed us that you dont always win battles with sword but by wisdom, goodwill & beneficence. Unless ofcourse you have a beef against Parsi part which puts you right next to other pan-ommah/pan-turks Omarus as nemesis of kiaan & aryeh Iran in my book.

Iran shall always be the land of Aryan , home of Kiaan & realm of Cyrus of Anshan.

Cheers!!!

I was wondering if there are "Princesses of Persia"....nope! AFC Women's Asian Cup was held in May 2010.....but not a single Moslem country sent a team to compete:

by madadi2000 on

For Samsum.. no way any mongolian language will be official in Iran.  Its better to get Talysh areas and Kurd area of Turkey, and let go of any cancer that wants to impose any foreign language on Iranians.  These racist pan-Turks destroyed all the Tats, Talysh and Kurds in Arran and are now Talabkaaar!   Don't worry about them, there is enough Iranian Azeris to put their foot in the mouth of pan-Turks.   The pan-Turks could not even handle Armenia in Karabagh, they cannot handle 80% Iranic speaking and the 95% of the 18% proud Azeris of Iran.

Qatar: "Al-Annabi" means "the purple (or maroon)", the color of the uniform.

UAE: "A Million welcomes the whites" meaning one million Qatari will welcome the white uniform UAE team!

All lame slogans!

Princes of Persia is awesome and among the best ones!

Samsam khan, no need to limit anything

All you need is a central official-national language: Farsi, which it effectively is, and also linguistic sensitivites in non-farsi speaking communities, on a case by case basis.

I think we might have two different definitions of dialects and language. I once read in the " Iranian Journal of Lingustics" that we have about some three hundered different dialects in Iran. And how many languages, who really knows?

Having said all this  I'm definitely in favoure of adopting Zargary, and Angoori as some type of argot language, what do you think?

Last but not least , please let's cut down on all this doom and gloom, Iran on the verge of disintegration, apocolypse now, apocolypse later,...

yes the situation is really bad, and it's going to get even worse: but as they used to say :

شاید عدو سبب خیر شود!

perhaps all of this repression and injustice might finaly force all of us, out of our fragmentation  and disfunction!?

Re; Kurds

by SamSamIIII on

I am being realistic in separating the rainbow of diversity within Iran into 3 main ethnic groups  Medeo-Persico-Scythians(Persians, gilaks, Tati, Khorasani, Kurds, Lurs, Bakhtiari, Sakestani) and Hunish-turanish ((Azari(no matter how we disagree thats their self-identity & we should respect that), Turkomen, Qashqui)  and Semitic-Dravidian(Arabs, coastal Bandar Abbas, Bushehris). having 15 national languages is unrealistic since most are different dialects within IndoEuropean or turkish languages.

Iran with or without IRI due to anti Irani/kiaani iconery of 3 decades is on the verge of disintegration . My remedy is the only mediocre hope in such dire time before the patient is out. Trillingual diversity under shared kiaani flag cherishing collective historical experince is the least to avert this. These are not ideal times and requires prudent measures.

"چرا این جامعه اینچنین دچار عقده و حقارت شده است "

It's not something new! The turanian societies have been affected by this inferiority complex since ancient times. Pan-turks or turkish nationalists have always despised not only Persia (or Persians), but also all other Iranian ethnic minorities. Backwardness is the cause of their jealousy toward Iran/Persia, and also the main root of their racism.

And the irony is having racist pan-turks talking about human rights for Iranian ethnic minorities! Uneducated turks who insult millions of Kurds by reffering to them as "mountain turks" are now weeping crocodile tears for Azaris, Kurds, Baluchs or other Iranian people.

Princes of Iran

Would have been a better choice since the sacred word already carries the unifying concept of Medeo-Persian Aryeh legacy. This Parsi this Parsi that is more the latest trend of those clueless  who are even ignorant to the concept of what they are talking about(real state patriotism of post-79). How ever, Mr Salavat should mind his fiery attacks on Parsi ethnic groups & their heritage since by doing so he defeats his own purpose via his own naked bigotry.

Piish beh sooyeh trillingual system of Parsi-Farsi-Azari to reflect & celebrate Iran's Medeo-Persico/Hunish-Turanish diversity under kiaani flag. (Arabic already rep in Farsi & Kurdish in Parsi as the rest are mere dialects).. What do you say Salavat?.

نژاد پرستی پارسی - فارسی آریایی

Savalan

Interesting slogans from different teams........I don't understand what UAE, Jordan, Qatar slogan means.....the N Korea is under the severe pressure to win by judging from their slogan!

......maybe some people feel that "Princes of Iran" is better than "Princes of Persia"........but the thing is that Qatar, the AFC host, does not recognize "Persian Gulf".....Qatar used "Arabian Gulf" in their World Cup bid video at 1:49:

//www.youtube.com/watch?v=d-z2jtUS9-Y&feature=player_embedded

It is not bad idea to make Qataris see and read the word "Persia" over and over again...
