A few months ago, I signed up with Child Foundation after learning about them here on this website. Like most of us in diaspora, faithless and as a result not much into charity, I was desperate to find a way to give a few bucks to the needy if for nothing else other than merely to abate my pangs of conscience. The foundation seemed suspect from the start as they didn't allow the donor to directly contact the recipient in Iran. I gave them the benefit of the doubt and agreed to let them charge a monthly sum to my credit card.
A couple of weeks ago when the shit hit the fan and Child Foundation was found to be a front for funneling money to the Islamic Republic, I tried to contact my credit card company and put a stop to the monthly payments but for whatever reason I was unable to get through. I figured I'll wait and try again later. Then I forgot about it.
Last night I got an email from Child Foundation alerting me that the December payment had been declined by the credit card company. That seemed strange because I hadn't done anything about it. But then I realized that the credit card company had been told by the US government not to accept charges crediting Child Foundation. Now my name and names of other naive fools like me have ended up on a government list of people contributing to a terrorist state. That's a shame!

Sean jaan, You should have followed me then! pay directly!
by Jonny Dollar on Tue Dec 28, 2010 10:00 PM PSTAnytime I go to Iran, or somebody goes, I give mine to the orphans in that village. I was gonna go couple of months ago, but jerks have refused to renew my pass so far. They are giving me a hard time. I hope it is not for my writing here! Did they discover who I am?
if I find out someone goes, or I go, I would let you know at your work. This is the exact reason that I never send any check or anything with my name to any iranian related charities. God bless the zionists in charge of the sanctions against Iran without whom we would be living in peace (I hope!)!
"God is love!"

I almost donated to that charity
by Anonymous Observer on Tue Dec 28, 2010 02:35 PM PSTLike you, I was desperate to help. But the whole thing seemed a little suspect, so I stopped.
I wish though that there was some organization run by a combination of well meaning, reputable Iranians and non-Iranians (just for safe measure--at this point in our history) which we could donate to for these purposes.
The organization, above all, must be completely transparent--disclosing all of its finances to anyone who wants to know, and having all the necessary legal clearances from the appropriate authorities in whatever country it is organized.
Comes with the price of oppression...
by bahmani on Tue Dec 28, 2010 02:04 PM PSTGet in line for being gullibly optimistic with a good heart.
This is merely the price we all have to continually pay for not being above all, more critical of things, and careful about what we support.
I suspected CF from the very start because it was run by a couple of folks I didn't particularly trust, nor was able to vet against any sort of list of approved, authorized or certified do gooders. Sadly if they had ended up being honest I'd have still been on the same side of the trust fence, meaning NO to anything to do with Iran at this time in history. This is the present case we have to acknowledge as we collectively decide when we have had enough of this life as Iranians in denial.
When are we going to put a stop to this kind of irresponsibility, not just on the part of these charlatans, but ourselves for denying that the great Persian empire and continual list of self appointed emperors in fact, have no clothes.
Money Order and cash payments to i.com
by Anonymouse on Tue Dec 28, 2010 12:05 PM PSTMonda jaan yes money order, don't know where the market came from! You can buy it at any convenience store or 7-11.
Anahid jaan this whole cash payments to i.com is a sour subject. Every time JJJ has a donation drive many people like to contribute with other than credit card means and for whatever reason JJJ makes it hard to do it. See here for one such drive which made me waste money by the credit card company!
Under normal circumstance there should be a PO Box where someone from i.com can pick up people's contributions via mail and money orders or even checks. But nooooooooo :-)
Everything is sacred
Anonymouse jaan, I read you
by Monda on Tue Dec 28, 2010 11:56 AM PSTnever heard of money market... mean money order right?
If cash is good for IC, whom do we pay, Anonymouse jan,
by Anahid Hojjati on Tue Dec 28, 2010 11:52 AM PSTJJ is always travelling, so to whom are we supposed to give this cash for IC?
Monda jaan I donate in cash.
by Anonymouse on Tue Dec 28, 2010 11:21 AM PSTOn the few occasions that I've donated to i.com I sent cash once (in mail) and in other occasions money markets which costs $0.5. In one occasion I used credit card.
Yes if you're going to donate monthly and want a direct withdrawal you can't use cash but you can always give cash in person or money orders.
Of course anyone can donate however they like but for me it is mostly cash for Iranian issues or charities. Few years ago I donated through Mercy Corps using credit card for the BAM earthquake relief.
Everything is sacred
Anonymouse, can't mail cash
by Monda on Tue Dec 28, 2010 11:14 AM PSTfor donations or any type of gift. especially on monthly basis. once or twice you may get away with doing that but generally, regularly, not a good idea.
BTW cash donations are always better.
by Anonymouse on Tue Dec 28, 2010 11:00 AM PSTEverything is sacred
I hope the same thing doesnt happen2 i.com or we're all screwed!
by Anonymouse on Tue Dec 28, 2010 10:59 AM PSTEverything is sacred
I can relate!
by Monda on Tue Dec 28, 2010 10:45 AM PSTWhat a Shame! We are taken advantage of, when we genuinely extend our compassionate reactions towards the needy inside our motherland.
