As it might be public knoweledge by now, I've been involved in an exchange with supporters of a certain Iranian political fomation, for the past couple of days. In the process one of the 'comments' posted on that thread called me, " an interrogator in jails of Islamic Republic," and a few other insults that is not necessary to repeat here. And when in response I pointed this obviously uncouth behaviour, my comment was flagged (by we all know who), and the whole thred blocked and shut down.
So based on this simple procedure, future exchanges would be very simple. Anyone who deson't like your point of view, could post insults ands harass you, and if you dare to mention this breach, you, not the offender will get flagged, and the whole thread blocked and shut down! What's wrong with this picture?
But it's not just that.
Two days ago, on another thread Mash Ghasem was called a: "goat herder," " a camel jockey,"...and the entire Iranian nation was also called a few choice expletives. But MG was blocked, because he responded by saying nothing more than his usuall response; that he is a proud horse jockey and calling IR apologists hiding behind Old Glory, obtuse.
What gives?
Last but not least, as a public announcment I feel obliged to share with all just how fed up I'm with all of this, and all it would take right now is just one last straw.
So if you all don't see me around here no more, you'll know exactly what has taken place and what's going on . Cheers
It's been real.

Thick Skin Required
by bahmani on Fri Mar 02, 2012 10:19 AM PSTI have been through this before, with the exact same exasperated and hurt feelings with the exact same, "I'm leaving..." and so on. What I learned after a lot of soul searching and calm retrospection, is:
Since internet debate and discussions are virtual and not real, the rules are not the same as when you speak to someone live face-to-face. Assuming that a heated internet comment exchange that pushes someone's buttons will be civil is naive and a mistaken assumption.
When you post something controversial (and we all know when we do it!), you need to be ready for the following:
-Readers will mis-understand your point completely
-Readers will object to your argument
-Readers will have another argument just as valid as yours
-Readers will have really bad arguments
-Readers will be insulted by what you said
-Readers will simply want to attack you for fun and just to do it
Now, given this potential, you can now hopefully see that the reaction you expected your innocent and informative article to get, is rarely going to happen. Which is:
-Readers will completely agree with every word you said and champion you as the next Ernest Hemingway of Iranian.com
To survive and grow as a writer and commentator, you need to deal with this medium you have chosen to use to convey your opinions. Or, get a thicker skin. Don't be afraid to say what you want. Don't be afraid to take your lumps whether fair or unfair. Above all, read and understand the motto of this site, "Nothing is Sacred".
Which now hopefully you accept also means most of all, You are not Sacred either.
It was the famous poet Jason Nesmith from Galaxy Quest who once said, "Never give up. Never surrender."

by Veiled Prophet of Khorasan on Fri Mar 02, 2012 09:08 AM PSTYou put on a really nice show and twist what I said. I said you rejoice when people leave not when they get blocked. You don't want the admin to push them out. Prefer to do it yourself.
Anyway I don't really have much to say to you. Got more important stuff then to get in bickering with you.
The post you quoted was me being nice to you. Was my mistake.
Really VPK? Really?
by Anonymous Observer on Fri Mar 02, 2012 07:55 AM PSTI "rejoice" when people leave? Ohhhh...let me think, who was it that wrote this comment back in November praising my "tireless" efforts to bring back blocked usres?
by Veiled Prophet of Khorasan on Fri Nov 11, 2011 09:13 AM PST
If it happens I predict many blogs in his support. For all our differences I respect his tireless work to return banned people. A good act begets another act. If he is banned I will be among those demanding his return.
Ahhhh....
Dear friends and not-so-firends you're ALL very kind.
by Siamak Asadian on Fri Mar 02, 2012 07:53 AM PSTMasoud jaan, your humble servant is humbled even more.
Dear EA, you're exaggerating as usual. When you kept on promoting "Death to Dicatotr" slogan, I had no illusions about "changing" you mind, but simply to point out that promoting such slogans from outside Iran, makes us no different from Hezbollah that we supposedly "oppose," I still stand by it.
As far as "harassment" of others and being blocked. JL called MG,"a goat herder," "camel jockey," and a number of other choice expletives for the entire Iranian nation, and all I did was to respond to him saying that MG is a proud Horse jockey, and called him obtuse, but in your eyes I'm the on eharassign little poor JL.
AH, called me "an interrogator in IR jails," and flagged my comment poinitng out this insult, causing the entire thread to be blocked, but in you eyes I'm the one harrasing her.
You're correct for one occasion, in which I cursed what I thought of to be SAVAKi apologist. Am I perfect and always in control of my emotions? No.
Do I suffer fools gladly? No.
No matter how many times you hear, and read about "Socialism from below," "Democratic Socialism,"or names of Rosa Luxemberg, or Antonio Gramsci, it won't register in your mind that such a project has been, is and will be opposed to all likes of you're beloved: Anvar Khojeh, Stalin, Mao, Pol pot,.. Is seems such a distinction is simply beyond your ken.
Keep chanting Death to this and Death that, until cows come home , you still fail to expalin , by demanding death for your opponents, exactly what is the difference between you, the cool, calm, and collected, civilized one, and the thugs you oppose?
DNSM, looks like you're taking a page out of your teacher EA is distortion and exaggeration. Below is what you posted:

Dear AO reponse meant for other blog
by Veiled Prophet of Khorasan on Fri Mar 02, 2012 04:46 AM PSTI tried to respond on your other blog but I guess it is not open. Anyway here is a response for the new "daroogeh".
I don't really hate you - you're just a minor irritation kind of like a small hemorrhoid.
AO you are so kind; eloquent and a fine example of the best of human race. It is you sir that reduce a site to nothing but hate and drivel. No wonder people are going as you jump up and down and rejoice. On day you will be in a void talking to yourself and a few like you. Meanwhile others would have moved on to greener pastures. Instead of more hate I will respond by humor.
Regarding the irritation:

by Truthseeker9 on Fri Mar 02, 2012 05:26 AM PSTPerhaps Admin can clearly state what is categorised by "personal attack" on IC. It has been requested many times, but it seems it is still vague. There are comments that have been flagged but stay, calling people mentally ill, dishonest (liar), questioning virility (viagra), speculating about multiple IDs, generally spiteful ones which are deemed acceptable as free speech. But then we have other things being deleted, which are opinions and free speech.
Where does Admin draw the line? How are these rules applied? Are they applied across the board to everyone?
For example: the thread link in Roozbeh's comment below contains flagged comments which still are flagged. Why do some comments stay flagged and some unflagged? Are we to draw our own conclusions as to why some peoples insults are allowed to stay while others free speech is deleted?
Here is another example where there are comments which are flagged but stay flagged. Either they are unflagged or they are deleted as personal insults. So is there a half way house where justice is concerned?
//iranian.com/main/blog/anonymous-observer/just-leave-and-dont-come-back-please
There is something not right about this. Where is the consistency? You can't say you have rules and then turn your head and look the other way where some people are concerned.
MG jaan
by Masoud Kazemzadeh on Thu Mar 01, 2012 07:12 PM PSTSiamack/MG jaan,
You are one of the most erudite, sophisticated, and thoughtful writers on this site. There are about 5 or so people on this site that I try to read just about everything they write. You are of them. Since you and Roozbeh Gilani arrived on this site, the level of discourse has been greatly enhanced. Your writings are among the most enlightening writings here.
I will shortly write a blog, pleading [khahesh, tamana] to both you and other good friend AH to stop making personal attacks. Both of you are decent human beings, and sometimes it is natural to get emotional and make personal attacks.
The case with Anahid it totally different than the case with JL. Anahid is a decent person who has minor differences with us. However, JL was vulgar and insulting. He had no good point whatsoever. I think JJ was wrong in regards with JL and banning your screen name MG. The problem was JL and no other person had done anything but to respond to his vicious personal attacks.
So, please listen to nokar Englis. For once, he is right. And with a sense of humor. Benny Hill must have had some good effect on him.
This joint will not be the same without you. You are one of the pillars of this place. I look forward to reading many many more wonderful blogs and posts by you.
Your friend,
Masoud

MG is gone, but he told me to tell you that he found a print copy of "Promise of a Rendezvous with Ju Jitso," I 'only' have to type all nine small print pages. Don't go or Sherrif AO won't let you back in
by divaneh on Thu Mar 01, 2012 05:34 PM PSTAO has become a Sherrif and if you go won't let you back in the town. Everyone who leaves, he shouts behind them "You ain't gonna come back here kid". I think we badly need a few gunslingers like you here.
Sorry AO jaan, could not resist it :-).
VPK jaan, bordeom was the worse sin back in the 60's!
by Siamak Asadian on Thu Mar 01, 2012 04:45 PM PSTThe Situationists used to say;" Do and say whatever you want to do or say, but never be bored!' or something to that effect. Me thinks they were right too.

by Siamak Asadian on Thu Mar 01, 2012 04:40 PM PSTNot going but getting real bored
by Veiled Prophet of Khorasan on Thu Mar 01, 2012 04:36 PM PSTI have been around IC for years and I am also sick of a lot of things. But no I am not going or doing anything dramatic. Just getting bored and not as interested. Frankly there is not much to say to many blogs.
We get many people who are 100% decided. They are not around to exchange ideas. More like preach their thing and if you disagree trash you. Add to it the ego of many who think they are appointed voices of this or that.
They give me a headache ...
The more they yell the less room for anyone with anything reasonable ...
Next week another blogs on Mossadegh; Shah and so on.
Who needs it.
Ostaad Siamak (Sia) Jaan please, please, please don't go....!

As an educator, I implore you to stay and enlighten us....
With much regards!

Well Anglo khan, you know my soft spot for English Lit!
by Siamak Asadian on Thu Mar 01, 2012 04:25 PM PSTYou are a good sport, with seemingly thick skin. Perhaps I could emulate those two attributes.
Mehrdad jaan, everytime I feel I've really had it on IC, then I read these comments from all you kind folks, and start feeling a little bit foolish. Not much, just enough, to eat my words!
Mehrban jaan, by now you know my 'soft-spot' for psychedelic! Specially the 'Shroom' type!! Although your new avatar gives me more an impression of Pop Art than anything else.
You came up with the best question on that unfortunate, blocked thread. Feel free to continue that discussion in here, if you feel like it. Cheers.

Dear friends you're all very kind.
by Siamak Asadian on Thu Mar 01, 2012 12:59 PM PSTTS9 & RG; you're both so correct, it's just a little bit easier said than done!
Souri Bano, flagging not only doesn't resolve any issues, it also reduces one to the level of the person one thinks is acting unprincipaled. The only time I've falgged on IC was when somebody had a swastika as their avatar, almost three years ago.
AO, You're Tofu Kabab, with long grain organic brown Basmati rice, is ready whenever you get here. If you don't mind let's keep MG out of all this. I have a feeling he's gone for a longwhile, if not for good. Frankly since SAM hasn't been around for a while he was feeling a bit lonely!
Now, getting all of this out of my chest, it feels lighter already. Thank you all.
MG, first of all you owe me a tofu burger in Toronto
by Anonymous Observer on Thu Mar 01, 2012 12:31 PM PSTsecond, you were just indcuted to "you're another username for AO" club. So, you must stick around and enjoy all the ancillary "benefits" that come with that dubious distinction.
Third, I found this whole thing extremely surreal. I don't know what ticked our friend off here, but somehow her quarrel with you seeped into my blog--which had nothing to do with her--and then she accused you of being me and writing for and against poetry under different usernames so that you can promote your own poetry (what the...?!!!!), and then she accused RG of writing a comment about her--which he wasn't, and then she emailed JJ, and the next thing I know the comment section of my blog--which again, had nothing to do with her, or with you for that matter---got closed. I said to myself: 'what the f**k do I have to be involved in this fight?!!!' But I know it was all downhill when a certain poetic scientist character showed up to praise our freind's imaginary fight with you--and supposedly with me.
I don;t know why the comment section on MY blog was closed. I really don't know. It had nothing to do with that ongoing battle, and JJ could have just deleted the offensive comments. Anyway, as much as we have had our differences in the past, I urge you not to leave. You're an intelligent contributor and your comments are always appreciated. Plus, bear this in mind: if you decide to act upon this blog and leave, and then return, I will write a blog and make fun of you.
Got a question for you
by Souri on Thu Mar 01, 2012 12:20 PM PSTSiamak;
First of all, I assure you that I have been away since my last comment in that threads and am not guilty of any charge.
I just came back here and read your blog. Got a question for you:
Why don't you flag the insulting comments? Why you never flag the comment which you find offensive, instead of jumping to answer back, quickly?
Did you try to explain your case to the Admin, by flagging the insults to yourself? If you call Admin in one of your comment in a threads, he probably won't even read it. He can't read every single comment, here. But instead, if you flag a comment, this is a sure way to get his attention.
Try this, next time.
And , don't leave please.
I agree with Truthseeker.
by Roozbeh_Gilani on Thu Mar 01, 2012 12:26 PM PSTDear Siamak: I noted that your excellent, well researched and well written blog on Tudeh Party, with great contributions from Masoud, is now locked out to further comments, which is rather sad, and I suspect is what the name callers and personal attackers wanted to achieve.
There seem to be a systematic, deliberate effort on this site, by a certain group of users, to prevent any meaningfull. civilised discussions around Iran's political history , and mistakes of past as valuable lessons for future actions by Iranian youth wanting to eradicate Islamist fascism from our beloved motherland.
Best defence Siamak is to completely ignore the cyber thugs, and focus on great issues that you are bringing up. Let the silent majority who read and dont comment on this site learn from your experience. Do not bring yourself way down to the level of these cyber thugs by responding to them......
And keep writing and contributing my friend. Thank you.
