Sofia's take on local and international current events involving Iran, Iranians and Iranian Americans. It is up to us to dictate the future of our people and homeland...
When someone says “Rio De Janeiro,” a sane person immediately thinks of dance, debauchery, and delight; all-night parties, lust in the air, and hedonism at its best. This year, Rio will also play host to the “Rio +20” Summit on 20-22 June 2012, the UN’s Conference on Sustainable Development. Considering Brazil’s top emerging economy, and its new-found scientific and innovative prowess, this sounds just about right.
But as Iran will be participating, a conference which would have been timely, imperative, and highly-constructive will instead be counter-productive and hindering to a world which seeks to fulfill the UN’s development goals.
In an attempt to find favor in this world, the Islamic Republic of Iran will have an envoy at the “Rio +20” summit. This endeavor will be as hollow and empty as those past – Iran will use this, like all other multilateral or poly – lateral platforms, to fruitlessly exude its false relevance and significance in the world today. Typically, the Islamic Regime is recognized to engage in such propaganda through misinformation and dissemination of falsified facts, manipulation of politics and the international context, and through theatrical appeals to emotion, employing tactics which pull at the heart rather than engage the brain.
Pathetic. Sure, Iran will put on a show at the “Rio +20”, but will its participation be truly counterproductive? Without a doubt, yes.
It is regimes like that in Iran which effectively hinder the potential progress of such summits, yet are the main reason for their need. The Iranian Regime is a world-class pollutant, is one of the last states to pay any heed to the concept of sustainability (except in the nuclear weapons sector), and uses its participation at the Summit as a façade to cover its indecencies towards the environment and towards its ever-growing yet increasingly under-privileged population, and as a ruse to mask its dangerous nuclear weapons program. Perhaps Iran has not yet launched a nuclear warhead, but the nuclear program has already attacked the surrounding environment, including water sources, flora and fauna. From this, there is no going back.
Make your voices heard, remind the UN that the Islamic Republic of Iran will be making a mockery of the “Rio +20” conference. Be sure to contact the NGO’s that will be participating to warn them, as well as any UN offices in your region. Demand that att participants of the conference, whether state official or NGO, reject any request, meetings or proposals from Iran. Otherwise the Regime would find undue legitimacy.
For inspiration check out this blog written by Erik. I met Erik randomly about 2 years ago on the A Line subway headed to downtown NYC, and we have remained friends since. His passion for Human Rights in Iran never ceases to amaze me, considering he is not Iranian. We need more allies like him.

mousa67 has a valid point
by amirparvizforsecularmonarchy on Tue Jun 05, 2012 05:18 PM PDTAlbaloo I strongly disagree with what I see as the wests approach
1) I disagree with negotiating with IRI, which is intended to say to terrorists/racists/child molestors extremists which are hijacking my peoples lives and imposing Arab culture on them against their will that they would love to keep them in power if they would just stop this one nuclear activity because it ruins the west security
2) I disagree with bringing mullahs to power and helping extremists keep power and wanting to use them to meet their economic goals/sell weapons/wars etc.. all done covertly by CIA.
3) I disagree with misrepresenting the situation, by powers that are nuclear armed themselves, in order to follow another plan not disclosed.
4) I agree with supporting iranian secular democrats, not other extremists and opposing the IRI regime on the grounds of human rights and crimes against humanity.
Reality in Iran 80% of the population curse the regime openly, the regmes power base is very thin. Both Syria and Libya the govts had far greater support among their people and far fewer grievances compared with IRI, yet the west supports extremists to oppose Assad & Ghaddafi and wishes to keep extremists for us, this is blatant colonialism. Africanization of M.E.
MY Post below was to say, the approach being used is ridiculous when the issue is not nuclear, but the USA's love for extremists and wishing it could keep them in power minus the nukes. The whole Hezbollahi regime must come down and not by western help/war, but by not backing the IRI coverty as they are, when Iranians get the signal to Organize go after them. Our problem is the US/EU Support for IRI and so our hands being tied behind our backs, or we are sitting on our hands, if that is removed then the people can take the IRI out, though peoples lives will be unstable for years until internal security is reestablished and referendums held.
Q: what's worse than a terorist islamist state armed with nukes?

albaloo, dangerous for whom?????
by amirparvizforsecularmonarchy on Tue Jun 05, 2012 03:07 PM PDTThe USA/Israel/UK/France along with russia/china are all nuclear weapons possessing states. Talk about hypocrissy, don't the people of Iran have a right to demand the west stops its "Dangerous Nuclear Weapons Program". They want Iran to stop enrichment permitted for all signiatories of NPT, because it gives the IRI the capability if they should decide to, to be able to assemble a single bomb in a year. No evidence points to diversion of nuclear fuel in almost a decade of checks, which means infact the IRI has done alot to prove its intentions are peaceful based on its record. Is Any one taking notice?
" dangerous nuclear weapons program ", do you mean it SM?
by Albaloo on Tue Jun 05, 2012 02:49 PM PDTCare to explain to me why we should keep accusing Iran when just about every intelligence agency including MOSSAD has said there is no evidence they are building a nuclear weapon? It is ridiculous to see people like you continue to lie even though the intelligence community says Iran is not building a nuke.
SofiaM khanom: You will add more credibility to your assertions…
by Bavafa on Tue Jun 05, 2012 02:21 PM PDTRegarding the pollution caused by Iran’s nuclear program or that Iran’s Regime is the world-class pollutant (assuming we are talking about environmental pollution and not mind-related pollutions) if you have some scientific data and or can provide a link to studies done in this regard.
Some of the assertions by other members regarding the USA and pollution in the world has been well documented and not subjective.
'Hambastegi' is the main key to victory
P.S. Also any info regarding The “dangerous nuclear weapons program” by Iran would greatly be appreciated as CIA and Mossad have been trying very hard to find such link.

Soosan Khanoom, the nuclear program may be used to harm
by amirparvizforsecularmonarchy on Tue Jun 05, 2012 01:54 PM PDTIranian people soon, and not because the USA cares for human rights or democracy (because the USA uses and wants religous extremists in power and will likely support the MeK) or because it cares about a nuclear free Iran but because of the reality the USA is stuck in today.
1) after betraying a good ally, that helped the USA, the late shah and presenting him as a despot and a dictator.
2) today the USA has to depend on russia to send materials to afghanistan
3) has to rely on china to keep the US economy afloat
4)depends on saudi's to keep oil prices contained
5) and with friends like russia, china, saudi arabia who's economies are expanding at the expense of the USA (which the USA deserves no better friends than these) the USA is not going to be able to come out of its depression not in 5 nor 10 years. So it has to act to save itself from imminent collapse that is in the process of happening in the next 2 to 3 years and so it may seek to start a war with Iran, to jump start its manufacturing. 2013 to 2014 is about as long as the USA has to prevent its own collapse by starting a war which despite having many negative consequences and being costly has the benefit of getting the economy to climb out of depression.
All the other wars the USA is starting in Syria Libya etc are based on the USA needing to solve its own economic problems. Explain this to the clueless patsys the usa produces and they will call you an Iri agent or pmoi, the vildemoses, masoud kazemzadehs etc of the world

If I were responsible for the event in brazil
by amirparvizforsecularmonarchy on Thu May 31, 2012 06:35 AM PDTI would require every single thing sent by Islamic Rapist Paedophile group to wear an ankle bracelet with gps tracking. Not a single one would leave my sights, they would need to have someone watch them 24/7. The pool incident on the news is not even news for iri. The religous culture that abuses its power and gives Zero protection for children against abuse is ridiculous at this point in time.
I would also remind the lady writing the article not to confuse Iran, with the IRI.
I would also have an ankle bracelet for any openly catholic official at the event, I hear there are many in brasil. Catholics present themselves as for protecting children, yet they abuse them badly, just another group of hypocrits, like IRI that say they represent goodness & god and spew out extremism and persecute everything in sight.
for the sake of protecting children of Rio.
by mousa67 on Wed May 30, 2012 10:33 PM PDTnone of these filthy, subhuman islamist shia paedophiles should be allowed into that great city.
soosan and hirre you are both right
by amirparvizforsecularmonarchy on Wed May 30, 2012 07:12 PM PDTit gets worse when you realize the thousands of journalists working with links to the cia and how they are employed during times of peace (which for the USA does not exist) and how the cia's task is to manufacture deadly deception so the state department can carry out its filthy politics which has the IRI extremists in power in Iran for the long term against all our wishes.
How many of our antellectuals, at one point in the past called the late shah a dictator, corrupt, excessively repressive???? If only they had a little less An, AN might not have brutally become president of the iri today! Do they realize what they did and how they behaved during Irans grave hours?
I was watching Obama hand out the medal of freedom, to those that fought against the nazi's, today its safe to say with the amount of freedon the USA is stealing from people, it is no less despicable than the worst crimes of the Nazi's, even though the USA's victims die of malnutrition due to no access to resources which they unfairly steal.
The problem is the USA doesn't give attention to all her crimes that the US govt is committing for its corportations, to keep control in the name of democracy/human rights which is really a plutocracy imposing tyranny. The dirty values Iranians, our antellectual class, will even condemn you for using your freedom and in their uncivilized way fight for their own right to stay oblivious to reality, yet cosy with the PR fed them in the west. How many times have you heard the phrase if you have a problem with the USA why are you living here & shut up you iri groupie, if you speak to all of the truth?
it's pefect location
by MRX1 on Wed May 30, 2012 03:58 PM PDTForget about environmental mumbo jumbo which hardly any one cares about it in islamic paradise. Rio is a perfect place for whore chasing by the delegates and in case of IRI delegates may be even some young boys or young girls!
Wrong...
by hirre on Wed May 30, 2012 02:28 PM PDTWhen it comes to environmental issues it's a whole other game. The US is basically the big pollution monster. An average american consume 3-5 times more than the average person in the developing world. They use a lot more energy from non-renewable energy sources, such as coal, gas and petrolium. They won't sign the Kyoto treaty and so on... In terms of environmental issues it is highly motivated for Iran to use nuclear power (if they did it by the book and protecting the environment at the same time) instead of burning oil and building dams for power plants, although they too should use renewable energy sources...
This is a textbook example of propaganda nonsense
by Soosan Khanoom on Wed May 30, 2012 12:01 PM PDTThis is a textbook example of propaganda nonsense which are being fed to us daily these days.
There are over 70 million people living in that country. There are several major universities with talented faculties and students. Pharmaceutical companies, Environmental and developmental sites. The ordinary people of Iran are part of these organizations. What would then be next? Not letting any one from that country participating any conference which actually some ordinary Iranian may benefit from.
The articles such as yours are simply manipulative in the manner of demagogue, it is obscure and distorted with prejudice. But do not worry you will have an army of supporter here. Just wait , they'll show up one by one.
