The Pit Ball's Sagacity !

by Demo on

No wonder the Pit Balls are considered as vicious 'Sag,'* by many people. Most probably because unlike under 'Dogs,'* they have their own distiguished 'perceptions!' The sagacious comment below is a clear example of such.

* 'Sag' & 'Dogs' are the same. Please do not jump on Hajii Demo!

The same old

by persian pit bull on

The same old argument

People don't deserve democracy and freedom

We have to make decision for them

They do not have the required intellectual acumen to understand the nuances of democracy

MEANWHILE.  I enjoy all the freedom that (yes) a liberal democracy can afford me.  Hypocrisy has no bound

Darius, you’ve raised a number of valid points, no surprise there. Let me paraphrase one of them; if I’m wrong please correct me.

Democracy is a state of affair which the buyer has to be able to afford it.

BTW, forget the corporate owned media and their right, left, center or whatever-wing pundits/intellectuals; their priority is to safeguard the interests of the stockholders.

The Point is : She might as well ask for Salmon Fish ...

by Darius Kadivar on

I am all for more freedom and ultimately seeing Saudi Women get the same rights as others in the Western deemed "liberal" democracies ...

Same for our own fellow compatriots of the opposite gender back home in Iran ...

However I've got a question to ask to all the Western Media outlets who have been making much fuss about this footage including here in France on Prime Time TV ...

It's the Following:

Let's Say the Saudis tomorrow revolt like in Syria or Libya demanding democracy ... Will you folks stand by them if the Saudi Regime cracks down on them or you will merely say : "lengesh kohn" just like you "Liberal Democrats" are doing right now towards the poor Syrians being slaughtered to the last ?

NIGHT OF THE GENERALS : Paul Conroy describes "pure, systematic slaughter of civilians"

If the issue is to encourage the Saudis to revolt only to let them down when they need you ... then I truly don't think this lady is doing her own countrymen and countrywomen a service but is merely the "useful idiot" of the Western Governments who couldn't care less about what happens to the region.

For the sake of intellectual discourse Forget for one second what this lady is asking for which in itself is legitimate in it's own right.

That is not my point.

My Point is can these nations people "afford democracy" or not at this juncture without causing far more damage to their very survival ?

STUBBORN WALLS: Ben Gurion, Hussein, Nasser interviews on ME Peace Process

Edmunde Burke the Constitutionalist Historian and philosopher of Conservatism best discribed the dilemma of authoritarian regimes in handling their democratic transitions:

Mini lecture on the political philosophy of Edmund Burke (1729-1797)

The Case of Bahrain is significant from this perspective knowing the regional interferences in creating chaos and forcing each time the regime to step back in it's genuine or at least well intentioned attempts to reform. Each time they make concessions the Iranians make sure to provoke the local shi'as to demonstrate even with more radical demands impossible to deliver for any regime at crossroads ...

Bahrain's King Vows Human Rights Reforms as Independent Report Exonerates Iran

If the IRI pushes for democracy in Bahrain it is not because it genuinly believes in it or the very ideals of democracy per se :

LOOK WHOSE TALKING ? Press TV denounces "Saudi Dictator Who Seeks to Halt Protests"

but for other reasons which even date back even prior to the Islamic Revolution:

PAN IRANIST: Pezeshkpour objects to Shah's decision on Bahrain Independence (1971)

Same for Sultan Qaboos' Kingdom in Oman:

Karim Sadjadpour on Sultan Qaboos’ 'honest broker' role in ending US hikers Ordeal

So it all boils down to how a society COLLECTIVELY manages to impose a transtion and make a given government to comply to their demands ( like let's say Poland's Solidarnosc managed thanks to an intelligent and educated Opposition) and not just merely isolated and childish outbursts by someone who after all can afford buying using a digital camera probably even travelled abroad to buy the latest model available on the market and then shouting her head off to exhibit her indignation ...

This is valid whether it concerns us Iranians or the Arab world in general as it did for any other nation which has struggled for democracy.

We should not be merely distracted by the "Tree" at the risk of not noticing the "Forest" of troubles ahead ...

Otherwise sure ... I sympathize with this lady's demand as well as with all the Muslim women particularly arab ( or Afghan with their Burqa) who are seeking emancipation.

But I'm not certain provoking footage offers the solutions to the ills from which they suffer or think they suffer from.

But I'm not sure Western Educated Saudis are representative of what the majority of a traditional minded society truly thinks either ...

Wanting to merely Format every nation based on Western models, values and Outlooks of Democracy is an Error ...

Because ultimately this lady is reproducing western "clichés" she herself is a victim of and then projecting her very own individual frustration on a society and gender which she claims to speak on it's behalf but which probably doesn't aspire to the same "freedoms" she holds as "sacred" ...

The Quest for democracy has to be rooted in far more legitimate demands than this new "Liberal Democratic" Fashion trend merely dictated by Obamania ...

O'BAMA & O'MAMA: The Queen and President Obama Get Drunk in Ireland ;0)

Transition towards Democracy demands a reliable opposition with a clear vision on how to implement it's aspirations and not just using public outbusts  as an argument or political tool to achieve their legitimate rights and wishes.

otherwise might as well ask for implementing Salmon Fish in the desert ...

FISH & FAITH : "Salmon Fishing In The Yemen"

My Humble Opinion,

DK
