Shah and his administration played mjajor role in expanding global democracy in the region. iIranian modern army was welll trained by western allies.  Under shah's smart leadership, Iran was the land of stability and prosperity. Consequently,  President Dawood in Afghanistan,  President Zia al Haq in Pakistan and Shah in Iran were close allies of the "free world". Iran was the dimond of the Persian gulf. The most powerful and elite of the countries throughout the Middle East. God bless shah's soul.

None sticking to the topic

The topic was about human right abuses, all the sudden we get a sarcastic comment about this writer's knowledge of different divisions in Marxist idea. Then the topic is about wall street occupiers which has nothing to do with being "socialists". The handfull of predominately young students have gathered to express their unhappiness to stock market in 2011. they  demonstrate "social prostest", all the sudden it become interpretated as a sign of "socialism" or "proletaria revolution" !!. I know several of those people. One of them is a photographer who is making half way decent money. He is outspoken guy who was able to gather many people for that demonstration. He is in his mid 30's young guy who has no familiarity with Marx or Lenin or "Left". He and his friends occupied the area because they felt stock market benefited only big guys in 2011. That Finished over a year ago.  They got their live back later on. On the other hand, the Cubans still swimming across the ocean to reach to the "Free Wold". Angola nationalism is still getting crashed, massacred by Cuban soldiers. Is that because of Stalin? May be "yes" or may be "no", who cares? that is the fact. It is an outcome of Marx's idea. 

Stalinism or one single party or whatever they may be called, that is the reality of this world. "Reds" massacred,tortured, imprisonment all over the globe beside the fact they limited human freedom. Their history intimated with bloodshed, massacre and imprisonment. Much worse than what ruling mullahs were doing in Iran during last 33 years. Some people are UNeducated ,so  they can't see it. Some others are in their old age. They can't change their views because of concrete way of thinking in that stage of life. They're fossiles who will die before realizing they were wrong all their lives. Never the less, the  "Reds" faded away after downfall of Soviet Union in 1988. That is the fact. The rest is garbages which is production oif fantasyland. The fantasy land whom Marx referred to it as "Euthopia". It is fantasy land and doesn't exist in reality.

Stalinism is not limited and contained within the person of Joseph Stalin. Stalinism refers to the undemocratic top-down one party systems that he lead and helped to establish.

Occupy Movement has nothing to do with "proletaria revolution". I know some of those occupiers in Person. None of them has any idea of Marxism. In fact they love to be Americans and live in free world. In any society there are always some unhappy people. That doesn't mean they want to change the system or they follow socialism...communism... or even something close to it. it is called  "social protest". There is always protest in the free world. One Iraqi woman was telling me that after Iraq liberation, they can come on streets and prostest any time they wish. She was critical of the system by saying that is the only thing they got after Liberation. Unlike during Saddam's time and his infamous secret police "Mokhaberat".  That is the beauty of democracy and freedom. People have right to express their opinions. It has nothing to do with "Class struggle" and "Class oppression" that Marx pinpointed in his theory. It is " Democracy".

The crimes against humanity committed by Duetch Democratic Republic (DDR) secret police is well known and welll established in the history of mankind. No one can be critical of "free world" and at the same time he/she closes his/her eyes to the crimes that committed by their comrades in eastern blocks.  S.T.A.S.I was established almost after Stalin's death in East Germany (early 50's). It has nothing to do with Stalin regime.

Siavash FYI: the Occupy Movement which originated on Wall St, that is as in:

Wall Street, New York City, of the United States of America,

has spread throughout the world, ans inspired many movements of the same type in four corners of the globe, including Iran.

In Iran they have had many conferences on the Occupy Movement in Tehran University as well. Some of those speaking at those conferences  were incarcerrated only because of being a speaker at the event.

Furthermore this very same Occupy Movement is another example of a Universal Movement against inequality and injustice, very much from a very Leftist point of view.

So, your assertion that the Left is not a major political, cultural force anymore is at best very uninformed (like almost all your points about the Left, although you remain correct about the crimes of Stalinist regimes).

The subject of conversation was universality of human right around the world.  The attempt was made to highlight those crimes committed by "Reds' in the world which seems some are still ignorant about it. My comment was a reply to blaming "free world" for the torture ...in Iraqi, plestinians, etc. . The discussion was NOT about different fractions or divisions among the left such as Anarchist, social democrats.... .At the end, They all faded away after collepse of Berlin Wall in 1988.

حق ملاقات یکی از پایه ای ترین حقوق هر زندانیست. ممنوعیت ملاقات مادری با
همسر و فرزندانش از جمله شکنجه هایی است که بر نسرین ستوده که جز در راه
عدالت و حقوق انسانی گامی بر نداشته روا داشته اند. او تنها نیست، زنان و
مردان بسیاری از شرایط غیر انسانی در زندان ها رنج می برند. از زشت ترین و
غیر انسانی ترین شکنجه ها، قطع رابطه زندانی با محیط است. بر اساس قانون،
زندانی با هر اتهامی باید وکیل و حق ملاقات داشته باشد. و آنگاه که جرمی
برایش نوشتند به هیچوجه حق ندارند او را در سلول های انفرادی نگه دارند. هم
اکنون نسرین را که از اعتصاب غذا به حال وخیمی افتاده است از بیمارستان
مستقیما به انفرادی برده اند. این نه تنها خلاف قانون، بلکه نماد روشن
شکنجه و نقض اساسی ترین حقوق انسانی است.

کانون های بین المللی و دولت های بسیاری اعتراض خود را به جمهوری اسلامی
