After reading JJ's pictorial essay on his unrealized trip to Israel, I was reminded about a confrontation/incident I had with Israel (El Al) security forces of all places in Newark International Airport (EWR).
Before telling you about the incident, let me say that I am glad JJ didn't make the trip.
I am saying it not because Israel has become a pariah country in the Middle-East or because it is an apartheid nation, their close cooperation with South Africa during their apartheid regime not withstanding, Arab citizens of Israel are treated as second class citizens. (I realize under current regime in Iran Jewish and Christian Armenian citizens are also treated as second class citizen and I feel it is such a waste of talent.)
And not because JJ has become a bit of politician after reading a posting from a Pahlavi cabal stooge that JJ is a reformed person after repenting for his earlier association with mullahs and now JJ is his best friend or not because he posts the Massed operatives and its sympathizer's various writings.
No, none of the above. The reason I salute JJ for not making the trip was because it was a junket (paid for by Israel).
Having said all that let me tell you about the incident at EWR. It was mid 1990, long before 9/11, and I was traveing to the Netherlands. It was a business trip and I was supposed to give a technical presentation on one of the newer products that we were making in the US. I had prepared about forty transparencies (at that time transparencies were the way for business presentation) for my presentation.
Although Dutch are socially kind of liberal, technically they are not. Since the company I used to work for was a Dutch Company, I had to be extra careful as to authenticity and also how well I presented my talk. Even though my flight was about 8 PM, as usual afraid of traffic jam in NY/NJ area, I got to EWR about 4 PM.
So I had to kill some time. I bought myself a cup of coffee from Starbucks (which I hate by the way) and found a quiet place to sit and review my presentation. Our department secretary had prepared a booklet of all my transparencies which made it easy for me to review them.
So I was sitting there minding my business and sipping the hated coffee, suddenly I realized I was surrounded by three or four plain cloth people asking me what I was doing there. I just started to say what I was doing, thinking they are security personal from EWR, but looking at their ID tag I realized that they were from Israel's El Al Airlines.
I quickly changed my tone and asked who the heck (I actually used the F.. word) are you? Why are you asking what I am doing here? to which they responded "we know your kinds".
I screamed for EWR security, no one showed up but they saw I am beginning to scream and making a scene they returned to wherever they were coming from and left me alone.
To this day, although I was flying with KLM, I don't know what caused them to come to me and say "we know your kinds".

For you, living in the west and saying and thinking these things, I cannot feel but really sorry for you. If Islam was so good you wouldn't have left Iran. So either you're a hungry bichareh who came here not to suffer from lack of proteins and vitamins or you're simply one of the many 'hezbolahie jigool shode' (neo-aftabehs) in Vancouver.

Thanks Rosie for nice response
by XerXes (not verified) on Sat Oct 27, 2007 08:31 PM PDTThanks for your nice response. I am not a Muslim but I am from Iran. I have lived all my life in Iran and fought in Iran and Iraq war. I know Iran better than anyone and can comfortably say again that the one who is picking the fight and trying to start another war, the ones who is jeopardizing life and civilization is not Iran. Iranian regime can talk all it wants, but if you do your research you'll find that Iran offered United States a treaty after the 9/11 to recognize Israel and stop the support of Hezbullah for the price of security and guarantee that there would be no attack. Iran will easily compromise because it is a logical regime (Although religious) while it is the Israeli officials, mostly ex-Musad and and their lobby and neo-cons who are pushing for another war. What Israel is doing is actually causing danger for the Jewish people (Not to mention everyone else) I think people should all unite and don't let these crazies start what Bush calls WWIII, I read middle eastern massacre. In that case, I am certain that no one is safe since no one can predict the outcome. I know that we probably agree on most points, lets just hope there would be peace.
To Xerxes-anti-Semitism/Israel, Rafsanjani
by Rosie T. (not verified) on Sat Oct 27, 2007 12:10 PM PDTAlthough the magnititue of the specific historical event called the Holocaust was staggering, there were Holocausts before that and there have been others since. I am not particularly worried that the next Holocaust will be directed against the specific ethnic, sexual and political groups the Nazis targeted. I just mentioned that eventuality in order to try to be completely intellectually honest. I'm a non-Zionist Jew but IF there were another holocaust directed at the Jews, I have to admit I might claim my Israeli citizenship (if they would let me instead of prolongng my plight to bolster the Zionist cause, as they apparently did before...)
Actually I DO fear another Holocaust, but who its targets will be I have no idea, Jews have no monopoly on holocausts.
It was a coincidence that I brought up this hypothetical Jewish holocaust again to Pouran. I wanted to point out the the inherent contradiction in her (possibly his?) rabid anti-gay, anti-Semitic stance while identifying with Arabs and NOT identifying much with Persia. In Iran this is pretty standard, but in the "West" there is a serious contradiction here. Pouran lives in Canada.(S)he ought to think about it.
No doubt(s)he wont but anyway...have you seen Rafsanjani's recent sermon on memritv.org in which he said that the Holocaust was a necessary cleansing of the Jews from Europe, that Europe did a good and necessary thing? I have tried to understand Ahmadinejad's posturings (I do consider them posturings) on these topics in the context of a chessgame, and Ahmadinejad DOUBTED the Holocaust, he did not praise it or encourage a new one, and he generally distinguished between Judaism and Zionism (to my knowledge). I thought Rafsanjani was appointed to the Council of Experts to QUELL the Ahmadinjad's excesses so as to keep European trade and discourage U.S. invasion, and to get a globalizing pragmatist like himself IN in the next election. But Rafsanjani's anti-Semitic rhetoric is WORSE than Ahmadinejad's and I don't know what to think. What do you think?
I do agree with you, right now the neocons are the biggest threat to the planet. Almost everyone lays blame on Khatami but I think the revival of the hardliners and the crushing of Reform was due to the sandwiching of Iran between U.S.-occupied Iraq and Afghanistan. Just how naive am I? I'm not blind, I can see the map.
Best,
Rosie T.

A short response
by Foad on Sat Oct 27, 2007 06:46 AM PDTI didn't say anything mainly because I felt I said my piece and it is your turn. But since you insist, first let me correct a misunderstanding, by mid-1990, I meant decade of 1990 and not July of 1990.
Second, the reason that I am not saying anything while you nit wits accusing me of lying is that I don't see how I can convince you otherwise. I shared my true experience with you and some of you don't believe it and since El Al securities did not leave any receipt or paper trail of their aggression in a foreign country how else can I convince otherwise? May be if It happened in Israel they would have taken me in and tortured me as it is customary in Israel but, hey you nit wit, this happened in America. As far as I know America is an independent country and not an extension of Israel.
I have observed American police threaten people...
by hmmmm (not verified) on Sat Oct 27, 2007 01:05 AM PDTand walk away. If the Israelies were in a situation where they had no authority, they might threaten and walk away.
Isralies have had spies in the US like the convicted Naval Intelligence officer, Jonathan Pollard. I have read about the Isrealis being arrested in the US and deported. A group of Israelis going through a US airport and acting in such a manner just doesn't seem impossible to me.
The fact that the author disappeared after writing the article and the Starbucks dates makes me agree that this is a hoax.
I'm worried about the influence of the pro Israel lobby on American politicians. We had a Congressman Findly from Weastern Illinois who was destroyed by the donations of the Jewish Lobby. Congressman Finly was trying to deal with the problems between the two sides, but New Yorkers wanted him out of the US Congress. Congressman Durbin, now Senator Durbin, received those funds and he isn't supportive of Muslim groups. I was told that Senator Durbin will not meet with the groups to discuss issues, but I do not know this is true.
I don't hate anyone, but I do know the history of Israel and the Palestinian people. I wouldn't be surprised if the hatred spilled over in a coffee shop in a US airport.

Credibility Is The Real Issue
by Kaveh Nouraee on Fri Oct 26, 2007 08:42 PM PDTFoad's tale of woe at the hands of the big bad Jew is indicative of how when you project your hatred of certain people or groups, especially when it is unfounded and baseless, it inevitably comes back to bite you in the tuchis.
For those of you who don't know, tuchis is the Yiddish word for butt. (I thought Foad might enjoy some salt being rubbed into the wound. Kosher salt, that is.)
In addition to the white lie (or rather the olive-skinned lie) about Starbucks, El Al plainclothes security (who are in fact Mossad agents) will not simply walk away from someone who they suspect or have reason to believe is a possible security threat just because they are screaming. If that was the case, then the solution for the disputed lands would be solved easily. All the Arabs would have to do is start screaming and every Jew would clear out of Israel, right?
I didn't think so, either.

by XerXes (not verified) on Fri Oct 26, 2007 07:46 PM PDTThe idea that another Holocaust will happen, or the WWIII is around the corner or...frightening you and the citizens of the world is for these Oil Nazis to continue control of our wealth and tax dollars. Believe it or not, if Holocaust is going to happen, it will happen because the Israelis and the American government decide to aggressively control the region. In return the entire region will continue to fight and do WHATEVER possible to free them. I have never seen in my life time at least anyone as evil as Bush and Chaney. Really. You should be afraid of the American and the Israeli government more than any country in the world, since they are beating the drums of war and threatening the world peace. I think life becomes dangerous for the Jews because of the Israeli actions. That's my take...

by Rosie T. (not verified) on Fri Oct 26, 2007 06:49 PM PDTPouran, you're more than right! You're brilliant! You've solved the conundrum that political analysts have been trying to figure out for weeks--why did Ahmadinejad say publicly at Columbia University that gays in Iran don't exist? Now it is crystal clear! It's because since the Arabs came to Iran, hamjensbaaz oonjaa vojood NAdaarand! Case closed, mystery solved. Ahmadinejad was right! Thanks Pouran, for enlightening us all. You are a credit to Canada's loose immigration policies. I'm sure the Maple Leaf is proud to have you.
But do consider this: if Nazism should ever be revived, as you perhaps may hope, so that Jews, along with gays, might cease to exist, your Semitic Arabs will see me and my gay friends in the ovens of Auschwitz...but those "Aryaan" Persians, they won't be there you know..are you sure you don't want to consider switching sides?

On Israel/Jews--Xerxes
by Rosie T. (not verified) on Fri Oct 26, 2007 06:10 PM PDTXerxes, the intention is a good one but the analogy between the Iranian and American people as separate from their respective governments and the Jewish people from the Israeli government is not exact, and the distinction is an important one. The analogy should be with the ISRAEL people and the Israeli government. There is no inherent connection, political or otherwise, between specific Jewish individuals and the Israeli state. The Israeli government may choose to consider me a de facto citizen because I was born Jewish but I decline their kind offer. Admittedly should a second Holocaust begin, I might be forced to reconsider, but I'll just keep my fingers crossed that that eventuality won't happen. And I assume all the readers are keeping your fingers crossed with me, except of course for Pouran, that is... :D
let it go Foad
by one (not verified) on Fri Oct 26, 2007 04:20 PM PDTThis is to those of who are parsing Foad – I think you all just missed the point. Can you really give an idea (for example “Israelis are bad”) any more (or any less for that matter) credibility based on a 17 years old story even if the story was true. We all need to expand on we are all the same. It is all “fine” to conclude, based on our experience, something or other about a group of people but it is not ”fine” to label an entire nation based on that. I do not care if “they do it” (“labeling all moslem men terrorist”) – you who should consider yourself as a “better” person, an open minded person who believes in equality should not do that. Oh well, I guess I am a hopeless idealist and that starts showing.
Foad even if your story is true – I am surprised that you still remember it after all these years – let it go man – let it go. You will sleep better
Why isn't Foad defending his testament?

I looked up Starbuck and saw the 1971 date too, but I didnt' know how to find out if there was a Starbucks in that airport in 1990. Thanks for that infomation.
How did everyone know he was making this up? The Israeilis have had security in airports and they could go to a coffee shop and accost someone that they thought was a Palestinian. I've watched documentaries that showed animosity between Israelis and Arabs. Knowing some of the thing Khomeini said in the 80's might make an Iranian their target too.
Until the accurate Starbucks information, I thought he might be telling the truth. A lot of Iranians prefer tea, but they will take coffee is that is all you have to give.

I am Pouran Rostamian and live in North Vancouver of British Colombia, Canada. Reading all the anti arab and anti Islam rhetoric on this site makes me sick. Many of you take pride in the history or happening of ancient Iran and Kourosh and others.
Iran and Iranian civilization became great only after the arabs came to Iran and taught the Iranians culture. Do you know that in ancient Iran there were gays in plenty as is shown in the movie the 300. Islam banished the gays and made the Iranians into real men.
I was not a muslim but after carefully studying the Koran and arab history I have come to the conclusion that the world was saved from a dark future with the coming of the Prophet Mohammed and the teachings of the Koran. And as for the Arabs they are very beautiful and warm people. I love the Arabs as if it was not for the Arabs there would not have been Iran of today.
So please allah damn the jews and Isreal and all those who support the jews and Isreal. Love the Arabs and follow the teachings of the Koran to the last detail.
